Is this good or bad? Seems bad but I dont have the history.

Amazon has a mixed record (at best and is probably generous) on running IP of others. Everyone says WoT sucks. Won't watch it.

Rings of Power is ok. I am watching that.

Only Amazon series I have watched is Fallout which was done well. I loved LOTR trilogy but will never watch rings of power based on what I have seen and read.

The next Bond villain will be some goofy nerd with assburgers that is the worlds richest man and worming his way into government. Bond will be saved by a charming older bald fellow with a rocketship.

I'm not really a fan of the Broccolis. They have done good and bad.

I also don't really trust Amazon, but I think they likely recognize the importance of this assets. They have said that Bond things need to be on the big screen.

I would love movies or series about peripheral characters.

Tell me you wouldn't love a stand alone movie about Ana de Armas' character from No Time To Die. Doesn't have to involve Bond or MI6. Just AdA as a CIA spy in Cuba?

It's better than I thought it would be, but I won't say it's great. It's a decent, entertaining watch so far if you can get past the racial absurdity of it.

Rings of Power is far from OK. Like you said, Amazon has a very mixed record of developing someone else's IP. They already screwed up Tolkien, so I'm not a fan of them gaining control of Bond, one of the greatest characters out there.

I think the Broccolis are more likely to keep the traditions that made the series a success for sixty years. Amazon is more like to turn 007 into a Jane Bond trans superhero.

At least is didn't wind up at Disney.

Broccolis are the ones that made the female 007 in No Time to Die.

It was a female 00 agent, not a female Bond. And i'm pretty sure the Broccolis are the ones who are adamant against turning Bond into a female.

I look at it as more of a fantasy fix than anything. Absolutely some absurd **** with it that is against what Tolkien would have done.

They made a big deal about her number being 007.

Forgive me if I don't trust the Company that fumbled Tolkien's work so hard, I would need to know a lot about the project before I gather any excitement for it. Nolan directing would be a great start, but I would need to know more including the cast and especially Bond's actor before I have any enthusiasm.

Fake news. The family decided to trade IP creative decisions for even more F U money.

You make it sound like Amazon won some long-standing court battle for the rights to James Bond, so your premise is wrong because the family willingly got paid.

They sold out.

Quote:

Amazon MGM Studios said on Thursday it had struck a deal with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson, the British-American heirs to the legendary film producer Albert "Cubby" Broccoli and longtime stewards of the Bond films.

A spokesperson for Amazon said the financial terms of the deal were for their eyes only.

LOL, I never said nor implied that there was some ongoing court case or battle about it. Just that they no longer had creative control. Sorry reading is hard for you.

It is in the UK so: Bond will be a BIPOC bi-sexual female. All villains will be white men. Islam extremism will be taboo. And Bond will not be able to win without the help of gay Muslim.

Obviously this won't happen due to the investment Amazon has made in the IP, but I wish No Time To Die was the final movie in the series. The world has changed so much over the decades and I just don't see how the classic Bond persona really fits into today's geopolitical and cultural climate. And given the events of No Time To Die, it makes for a fitting final film in an amazing decades long series.

Tarantino wanted to reboot it with Casino Royale set in the 60s back when he talked with the Broccolis.

I think there is still a lot you could do with the character either based in the 50s, 60s, or present day. Villain organizations like SPECTRE are timeless across the generations, anyway and it doesn't all have to be Cold War-type stuff.

I am always interested in how people rank the movies, villains, bond girls, or the actors playing Bond. I am sure so much of it has to do with the age you were and where you were when you watched the movies. Not at all surprising, I liked the movies and characters more that I watched in the theater versus the ones on VHS, or worse, network television. I'm also easily swayed by other peoples opinion, but at this time, Elektra King is my favorite female character in a Bond movie.

Has it? If they made a traditional Bond film where he defeats the bad guy stealing nukes to threaten the world while saving a supermodel damsel it would still probably make damn good money. Pretty sure most men have that exact day dream several times a year.

A couple of comments.

Bond has always evolved to relevant with changing culture and geopolitics. It is a challenge for the filmmakers, but I think they have made it work for 60 years. They should keep it modern day. But not modern woke.

As far as Bond girls, growing up in the 70s I only got to see the edited-for-TV versions. I knew there was racier stuff going on with the Bond girls. Not R-rated, but certainly forbidden fruit to the junior high mind.

Thank god they came along with cable TV and VHS tapes.

It could be argued they were testing the waters for a female spy superhero, be it a complete replacement for James Bond/007 or new franchise. But if that is the direction they wanted to go, they got the casting completely wrong. Bring on Ana de Armas.

Considering they made it a plot point to call her 007 specifically, I think this is dead on

For the record, Nolan apparently met with the Broccolis a few years ago about directing the first post-Craig entry, but they were so controlling at the time, and wouldn't afford even Nolan the creative freedom he's no doubt earned by this point, that the one meeting is reportedly as far as talks ever got. But yeah, it would obviously make total sense now for Amazon to approach Nolan and let him do whatever the hell he wants.

That said, Amazon no doubt wants to do all kinds of shows, spinoffs, origin stories, etc set in this world as well, and I don't know that Nolan would be game to participate in/oversee any of that, even only as an executive producer. Though, maybe he can just set the tone with the first movie, then let Amazon take the reins from there.

Yeah, I knew that and it is one of the reasons why I don't like the Broccolis. The people responsible for Die Another Day and Spectre want to not let Nolan be Nolan? He has publicly said he would love to direct it.

They can **** right off.

I don't have faith in Amazon, but I don't have faith in the Broccolis, either.

You get someone like Nolan to do a trilogy. You can use other people to create other movies if you want taking the tone and themes he sets up. I don't see him wanting to orchestrate an entire Bond Cinematic Universe, but it is possible he might be willing to be the mastermind of it with enough money.

I think rather than it being Amazon's problem, its more dependent on who Amazon picks to run the show and what their history is.
