Was thinking about this today. Who would you consider the best modern day movie character? So let's say post 2000.

Can be best, most memorable, most iconic, however you want to define it.

The only caveat is it has to be an original character. So that rules out Tony Stark, Heath's Joker, or any other character that originated in another medium.

Feel free to post a ranking if you prefer.

My choice would be:

1. Jack Sparrow
2. Maximus Decimus Meridius (Edged out because Sparrow has the advantage of many sequels.)
3. Hans Landa
4. Caesar (Apes trilogy; One of the most fleshed out character arcs in movies.) DQ'd.

The Bride from Kill Bill
Adonis Creed
Ron Burgundy

Not sure if it counts because the character originated in a novel, though post 2000, but Anton from No Country for Old Men.

Not gonna bother ranking, just throwing some more into the ring for consideration....

Alonzo (Denzel) in Training Day. Such a great charasmatic villain.

Buddy in Elf. This movie is now a Christmas classic because of him. Naive without being an idiot, makes you believe in the magic of Christmas.

Honestly from Gladiator I would have said Phoenix's Commodus before Maximus.

Hans Landa
Maximus
Ulysses Everett McGill
Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander as a pair
Toby Howard and Texas Ranger Hamilton as a pair

Edit - I thought you meant the character originated after 2000 not that it had to be original only in film after 2000

Why? Entirely new character and only shares a name with the previous series.

In terms of originality, are you ruling them out if they are adapted from a book?

Are you sure? Both are super intelligent talking chimps named Caesar, born in modern day California, to super intelligent chimp mothers who are killed by humans, who become the leader of the ape rebellion. Sounds like the same character to me.

TBH, I haven't seen a single one of the old POTA series. I was under the impression the name was more of an Easter Egg type thing, since there's a few re-used names for completely different characters.

If it's actually meant to be the same character, then we can toss him out.
