Hoping not to have a political discussion at all, just want to talk about Carrie Underwood's performance at the Inauguration.
Wow. I felt so bad for her that the sound system/person screwed up so bad. I was wondering how long they'd wait, and if she'd go without accompaniment. Sure enough, she took the plunge.
She effing nailed it! It had my breath caught in my chest. When she hit "above the fruited plains" it almost brought me to tears. (Okay, that's not so shocking, sometimes at Aggie games I can't finish singing the Anthem because I get choked up, especially after a particularly stirring fly-over, like the CAF's WWII commemorative one.)
This guy analyzes videos of "singers" and busts the ones who are lip-sync'ing to pitch corrected backing tracks (looking at you, Celine and Taylor!) Not sure how he got on my YouTube algorithm, but he's opened my eyes to the rampant fakery we're fed. Thank God this performance of "God Bless America" was straight up!
So as not to be TOTALLY and MERELY a fan-boy, I will say I was wondering if (hoping) she'd go on to sing another verse, but I'm not surprised or critical that she didn't.
