From the Cynthia Ann Parker angle, there was a Tom Hanks movie that came out during Covid, very limited run in the theater, called News Of The World.

Toms character went around from town to town reading the news to folks that couldn't read during the reconstruction era of Texas. Ends up with a little blonde/german girl that had been kidnapped by the Indians & very much wanted to go back.

The movie puts a much happier ending on it than the true story of Cynthia Ann, but its still a pretty good movie.

To me, Cynthia Ann Parker makes no sense. She saw and remembered the indians killing her entire family. How she could mentally dismiss that and side with her family's murderers is beyond me. I guess it's some sort of trauma based mental illness, super severe case of Stockholm syndrome, or something.

In this show, an ADULT captive siding with them makes even less sense then that. Granted that that this show didn't have the indians gang rape her (which often happened), it still makes no sense. Who in their right mind would side with somebody who just killed and tortured their family in front of them?

It happened a lot, even as far back as Benjamin Franklins time, he wrote about it as well. Almost all captives, that survived long enough to become part of their society wanted to stay. Very few left the Indians willingly, unless they were rescued in pretty short order.

I can see this more with kids. Which is probably why they kept kidnapping children and raping/killing adults.

Good show. But the whole time, I really wanted good ole "Brother Pratt" to just take a damn bath and maybe clean off some dried blood. Like dude, There is a river. Wash your damn face (and body…and hands…)

I'm slogging thru this. Kind of bored but have nothing else to watch at the gym currently.

Betty in an 1857 Utah attire sucks.

You wouldn't get the Jesus Christ crown of thorns motif if he washed his face, though.

Interesting, because I immediately knew it was the Meadows Massacre while watching, probably because of the bags over the Mormons' heads/disguise as 'Indians'.

Have you ever seen Godless? Frank Griffin tells of surviving the Meadows Massacre because he was a boy, and being taken in by the Mormons. Watching that made me research the Meadows Massacre, which is probably why I immediately recognized it.

Same…my wife was adamantly opposed to it and I asked her to give it just 15 mins and if no interest, I'd watch on alone. Per the usual, she ended up liking it probably more than I did. Can't tell you how many shows, movies, etc that the give it just 15 mins has resulted in her watching and obsessing over…women amirite. She said the same about Breaking Bad, Sopranos, Fargo and others.

I just figured they were portraying another fictional massacre (or one I hadn't heard of) with similar disguises. Because the actual massacre didn't go anything like portrayed in the show.

I have not seen Godless. Is it good?

I really enjoyed it, but I also am a big fan of Westerns and neo-Westerns, so opinions may vary. I think most people will enjoy it.

Watched this over the weekend. Brutal...in a way the Revenant made me feel cold and uncomfortable much of the time. I'm assuming there were "bits" of historical fact mixed in with a lot of creative liberty for entertainment purposes. Good watch.

I believe that is not confirmed, and the name recorded was similar so people assume it was him. But no actual proof

Henry asked for two volunteers to stay with Glass until he died and then bury him. John S. Fitzgerald and a man later identified as "Bridges" stepped forward, and as the rest of the party moved on, began digging his grave.
Later, claiming that they were interrupted by attacking Arikara, the pair grabbed the rifle, knife, and other equipment belonging to Glass and took flight.
Fitzgerald and "Bridges" later caught up with the party and incorrectly reported to Ashley that Glass had died. There is a debate whether Bridges was actually famed mountain man Jim Bridger.

seemed to me, she wasn't happy about her situation. Her sister was supposed to marry Brother Pratt, but the sister died. So Abish was now stuck in an arranged marriage. My assumption from watching, and the dialogue is that she didn't want to be married to Pratt and likely wasn't exactly happy with the morman religion.
