My summer of reading through DCC has finally come to a close. Finished This Inevitable Ruin and now begins the long wait until the next book.

Starting The Long Goodbye by Raymond Chandler next.

It's been staring from the bookshelf at me for quite a while. Finally I picked it up....
4 days later I'm 300+ pages into the unedited version of "The Stand". Now I see why it is consistently ranked among King's best.

Listening to The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

I'm curious how much different is for me middle aged versus a teenager.

No, I haven't and it's a huge blindspot for me! For whatever reason, my reading diet definitely tilts towards Fantasy over Sci Fi, and The Expanse is 100% a casualty of that. Something I hope to remedy soon (that and Malazan's Book of the Fallen are mocking me for not having read them).

People on here love this series and I get a bunch of my Recs from here but I absolutely have not been able to get into this series no matter how hard I try. I have book 3 waiting in the wings but just can't bring myself to bite the bullet and try again. There are so many moving parts I have to do research on the chapters to explain what is going on and how it ties in. Not to mention, every time I get to like a character they get killed off.

It's definitely a complex, massive series. I had no idea what the hell was going on in book 1, but if you stick it out it all comes together. It's still complex and some books are almost stand-alone novels within the larger arc. I loved it though.

You can dive even further into it than the mainline story because the co-author has his own parallel series in the same overall arc. I read a few of those and they were good but I lost steam on those and never finished them.

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is my most re-read book. I've probably read it 5 times. I just re-read Restaurant at the end of the Universe last year for maybe the third time. I started as a teenage, also. I remember going to Waldenbooks and seeing that silly cover for a long time before I decided to actually read it. It looked fun, but it was in the big kids' section of Sci-Fi. I wasn't sure I could get into it.

There have been a lot of attempts with other books and series to capture the magic of that book, and some of them are pretty good (Space Team series by Barry J. Hutchison), but the Guide is the original and the best.

Don't Panic.

Just finished Native Tongue by Carl Hiassen and enjoyed it. I have read Stormy Weather, Native Tongue, and Double Whammy so far and would put them in that order.

Taking a break from Hiassen and just started Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and it is a pretty good page turner so far.

If you didn't like Deadhouse Gates you probably shouldn't continue. It was one of the best in the series. If you keep powering through you'll get to Midnight Tides and be real ticked because it basically has no ties to what happened earlier in the series.

Yeah, Deadhouse Gates ticked me off. I won't spoil it for others but it seems to be the favorite of most that like the series and all it did was tick me off.

Has anybody ever read "A NIght In The Lonesome October" by Roger Zelazny?

Its some type of cult classic book that you're supposed to read one chapter per day during October. I found this description: "Under cover of the murky London gloom, a knife-wielding gentleman named Jack prowls the midnight streets with his faithful watchdog Snuffgathering together the grisly ingredients they will need for an upcoming ancient and unearthly rite. For soon, after the death of the moon, black magic will summon the Elder Gods back into the world."

Looks like a good seasonal read. Unless somebody tells me differently, I'm probably in for this.

Just finished the audio book for Casino Royale. I really enjoyed it, it's a short easy listen. I'm a huge James Bond fan, so it was really fun to experience the book version of the stories that I've watched so many times over the years. I'm now starting Stephen Kings It as my Halloween season horror book.

Also finished The Shining last week, which was a great read.

And I picked up the audio books for the Sun Eater series, really excited to give those a listen!

I LOVED Chain of Dogs. Wait, is that the Deadhouse Gates book? If so, that was definitely my favorite.

Malazan is a series I have a love hate relationship with. A lot of the books were amazing and others were an absolute sludge to get through. Glad i read the series but not one I would go back to over and over.

The book is superior to both movies, and I've seen both and would actually rate the 2002 movie in my top 20 all time. Love the book.

I gave in on Mississippi Blue 42.

About a fictional SEC team in 2012.

I just found myself just not caring.

This book idea interests me, but it sounds like something that might have been self-published. Those are hit and miss, with a LOT of misses.

I saw it in a bookstore and was available via Libby. I think it's a major release.

It just didn't interest me even though I'm a college football fan.

I'm a big fan of what I've seen called the "Techno-thriller" genre.

Love Tom Clancy. I enjoyed all of the books that took place in the 80's (red October, patriot games, clear and present danger..) but I particularly like the 90's (sum of all fears, executive orders, debt of honor, the bear and the dragon.

Michael Crichton- The Andromeda strain, Congo, Jurassic park/ the lost world, sphere, timeline.

Stephen King- 11/22/63. I highly recommend it. My first Stephen king book.
