Go look at any of the trailer threads I have going, be it the main thread or the monthly threads and MAYBE twenty percent of releases each month can be considered "woke." Seriously, if you actually pay attention, and consider the whole of what Hollywood releases, the "woke" **** is very far and few between. Hell, I would argue there's even been a significant uptick of content made just for middle America. Either way, the math is on my side and you arguing anything else is you attempting to bend reality to your world view.

I've never made that claim. I have no problem with you crusading and white knighting for Hollywood. I just find it kind of ridiculous sometimes.

I was responding to the post that said all discussion on anything relating to the culture war shouldn't be allowed on threads, even if we are specifically talking about an aspect of that movie/show. My point is not making thread policing one-sided.

To your second point... you are getting such whiplash from arguing with different people over everything they say that you cannot keep straight what any of our opinions truly are. Did I claim Nolan is a very woke filmmaker? Have I wished for this movie to fail?

I've simply said the casting is ***** I've given my reasons for that opinion. I've said casting Elliot Page as a man is basically ******ed. Basically, I have to go into this movie believing that Helen of Troy is running around in blackface and that the Greeks were so desperate for battle fodder that they had to bring their gender confused people along with them, though they are near useless in battle.

No matter how good the movie may end up being, the casting will ALWAYS be ***** I'll still go watch the community theater production of the Odyssey filmed on an Imax camera.

ETA: Hell, I'm even the one trying to get my bum of a friend to go see it in Imax instead of a normal theater.

Again, this is a predominantly conservative forum, so of course conservative-leaning opinions are going to dominate. To that end, bragging about anyone not in line with the majority here getting "ratiod so hard" is so incredibly cringe wortht. Also, telling us to go to some "echo chamber" sure is rich coming from one of most notorious echo chambers on the internet. Good lord.

If you look over my posts on this thread you'll see that I'm on your side of this particular casting argument. My idea was that it's okay to talk about specific movie detail in that movie's thread; but when the thread eventually derails (as these inevitably do) into an overall rant/discussion about hollywood in general, then those posts go in the "catchall" thread I posited. I'm certainly willing to discuss on this thread this specific casting, but as soon as that discussion becomes pages and pages of generic pro-hollywood or anti-hollywood posts, then well...we've lost the topic, literally.

Posts positing why the casting for The Odyssey is bad or at minimum a distraction, I view as germaine to this thread. But most people never stop at one or two posts of their thoughts and then go on about their day. It akways, always, goes on for 3-5 pages of the same generic discussion that's moved on way past the actual movie.

I agree with you that is does drag on and on, but I blame that on a handful of people who respond to any criticism of a movie's alleged virtue signaling choices with gas lighting and personal attacks, which restarts the process. "If you think this is a big deal/part of a larger pattern/is an attack on you/warrants discussion, then you're weird/an idiot/should leave" etc. That's only coming from one side, from about 4 individuals.

I think the topic of societal and political influences on entertainment is actually a great overall topic worth discussion. I'm simply saying lets put that general discussion in a separate thread instead of having a thread originally devoted to The Odyssey stop being a thread about The Odyssey and become a thread about woke influences on film. There's a point when you're not discussing The Odyssey anymore and you're just discussing "Hollywood". Differentiate between the two and keep them separare and there will be more respect for your argument.

I tried.

I posted an actual reaction to the movie itself - the very first reaction, and a positive one at that - and when I woke up the next morning it was nothing but post after post of the usual suspects making excuses for why it was actually going to be bad and doing their best to knock it back down again.

For a movie none of them have even seen yet.

From there, I'm obviously as guilty as anyone, re: keeping the infighting going. But these people are so determined, and so miserable, that at this point I'm here to make their experience as annoying for them as they make it for everyone else.
