No he doesn't. Would "influencers" include some Nolan fanboys? Obviously. Would it also include a lot of dudes who will trash something they don't like without being afraid of being labeled bigots? Yes. That's why the critics are getting access.

It's wild. I've rarely seen someone want a movie to fail more. And when you say as much he gets all defensive and claims he of course hopes the movie is good. But then he'll follow that with endless negative comments/tweets about it yet again, and round and round we go.

He also could not be more off base with this whole influencer issue. He's basically asserting that the movie is bad, without having seen it yet for himself, or having read a single reaction, utterly confident that this whole tactic is Universal covering their tracks, when he has absolutely no idea what the situation truly is. Another tell that, ideologically, he needs it to fail, so as to keep espousing his worldview.

- I do hope this movie is as good as it can be, given the direction Nolan seems to have taken it
- I don't want for it to nor think it will flop
- Believe it or not, you CAN have nuanced feelings towards projects and neither hate it nor behave like a paid studio spokesman for it
- If, in the Year of Our Lord 2026, you trust professional critics or entertainment journalists further than you could throw them, you're a goofball.
- I don't want to "espouse my worldview" or I would spend a lot of time on politics or religion/philosophy boards. I love movies and am interested in the film industry, but regret how much it has become monopolized by the left (the Mamdani Left, not the Bill Clinton Left), and the extent to which filmmakers today have to kowtow to ideology or throw their talent and hard work down the drain.
- This might be pretty good or absolute ass. Neither would surprise me.

Not sure if the Supergirl or this thread are more entertaining.

There's a difference between not trusting professional critics and automatically jumping to "Universal is obviously trying to tip the scales / silence the normies." You can do the first without going full conspiracy theory, re: the second. Especially when literally every professional article/journalist covering this story says it's about getting rid of the shills, bootlickers, and easy-lay riff raff. There's, like, a tiny, paranoid contingency on social media, and then a few people in these thread, who think otherwise. But sure, you guys know best. Like always.

So they're *all* lying? Got it.

You're the one believing in a conspiracy theory.

Either way, it's common sense, seeing as "influencers" are notorious for being shills / easy lays / in league with the studios.

Only a conspiratorial mind would think that getting rid of the shills / easy lays would somehow be a bad thing.

My brother in Christ, you contributed half of the posts on a 50,000 post thread about aliens.

Still doesn't take away from the fact you're actively promoting one as well.

Here's what I've been hearing from reliable sources who have seen THE ODYSSEY:

- Three people have called it their favorite Christopher Nolan film, while another ranks it just behind Interstellar. None of them had any major complaints.

- The film is said to be Nolan's most emotional work, on par with Interstellar or perhaps even more so.

- Outside of the four main cast members, Lupita Nyong'o and Samantha Morton are reportedly the standout MVPs.

- And the ending… apparently it's one of the greatest Nolan has ever made, if not the greatest.

That's a good sign for sure.

I read it recently and don't remember Helen of Troy having that big of a role in the story. But maybe Nyong'o simply makes the most out of her screentime.

She's playing two roles in the movie… both Helen of Troy and her sister Clytemnestra.

Do people really listen to critics, influencers, or rotten toms reviews these days?

I think most listen to trusted friends and family for reviews. I also take into account a compilation of Texags reviews. It's pretty easy to tell if it's worth seeing from these sources alone.

I pay more attention to RT audience score than anything these days.

If I am on the fence or don't know anything about a movie, and happen upon a critical drinker video, I will generally go with his recommendation on whether it's worth it to watch. There are a handful of movies I would have never watched without his recommendations.

Only in the most generic/consensus way. Like I probably would have gone to see Supergirl if consensus amongst audience/critics rated it favorably but it looked like generic superhero slop and that's the baseline feel I got from people who had seen it. So I'm out.

For The Odyssey, I already bought IMAX 70mm tickets, so I'm committed regardless. But had I not done that, I could be convinced to pass if reactions are overwhelmingly poor.

For Nolan, i will always go see in theaters unless there are catastrophic reviews.

Same for Denis.

Everyone else, I have my 3-4 youtube guys who's opinion on messaging and overall movie entertainment i align with. But, honestly, their opinion tends to always be reflected in audience consensus on RT.

I reserve the critic concsensus, in tandem with audience, to truly get hyped for a movie I believe I will really enjoy.

RT has never kept me from seeing a movie that I wanted to see unless the reviews were awful, like below 20%, but it has convinced me to see movies I otherwise would have ignored.

No, Apocalypto is like 60% or something on Rotten Tomatoes. Forever discredits the entire incel and angry leftist riddled "film critic industry" imo. Siskel and Ebert (loooved Apocalypto, because he's not a complete weirdo with no taste) are rolling in their graves. I only rely on people I know or trust (IRL and online) and audience scores.

If they ressurect an honest and accurate AI version of Siskel and Ebert someday, then I may watch/listen. But I'm not going to listen to a bunch of deadbeat cat collecting hipsters with agendas on anything, ever.

I use a highly complicated formula of watching a trailer and then deciding "I want to see that" or "I don't wish to see that."

I'm glad Nolan is swinging some weight and blackballing influencers from premiers. F* those people. They are a cancer.

Hey, they are NOT all deadbeat cat collecting hipsters. Some of them collect Funkos.

I will pretty much watch anything from the comfort of my home.

Dragging myself to the theater is a different ballgame. I rarely go opening weekend and it has to be "cinematic" for me. Now, if the movie gets panned by critics, audiences and some YouTubers I follow, I will reconsider.

So ready to finally see this film. All the nitpickers and contrarians will find always find something to harp on even if it's great. I couldn't care less about what someone with a million followers has to say about it, so good on Nolan for cutting out the "influencer" dorks.

lol - I know this is not the polly board so I'm trying not to ruffle anymore feathers. I don't care what people want to be called. Just don't get pissed when I get it wrong. I believe you can go to jail in Europe for that.

Of Course, Influencers Have Seen 'The Odyssey' Early

https://gizmodo.com/of-course-influencers-have-seen-the-odyssey-early-2000779829

"Then, on Monday night, influencers, creators, critics, and journalists alike started posting images from a 70mm IMAX screening of The Odyssey in New York City, leaving many confused. What happened to the idea of no social media influencer screenings?"
