As a huge fan of baseball and its history, I'm shocked no one has produced a dramatization about Roberto Clemente... a truly amazing life and a compelling story.

I'd like to see an Andy Wood biopic.

For those that don't know who he was, he was the very charismatic flamboyant lead singer of the band Mother Love Bone.

Just before their first major record dropped, he died of heroin overdose. He had been clean and relapsed.

His roommate, Chris Cornell, wrote a song about him and asked his bandmates Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard to record it. Chris grabbed his Soundgarden drummer, Matt Cameron, and they added their new guitar player and friend of Stone, Mike McCready.

And while recording, they were auditioning a singer for their band, and recorded Hunger Strike.

The dude was there for all the beginnings of that Seattle explosion, and never got to see any of it.

I think it would be cool for a movie about those early times in Seattle with AIC, MLB, Soundgarden, etc.

Ignaz Semmelweis - basically invented washing your hands as a doctor and caused infant mortality to go from 18% to 2%. Was mocked by his colleagues, put into an insane asylum and beat to death by the guards.

Way more space biopics - Yuri Gagarin, Sally Ride, Deke Slayton

Jesse Owens.

I can't believe there isn't some filmmaker out there that wants to shoot the scene at the '36 Berlin Olympics where Der Fuhrer gets to watch a Black American win 4 gold medals, in the process, and I quote ESPN, "single-handedly crushing Hitler's myth of Aryan supremacy"

I never understand why there aren't more movies that make you stand up and cheer for real-life greatness.

A combined Canadian-French-German production. Did anyone see it in the theaters?

Nope, but I rarely attend the theater. I think maybe 3 movies per 5 years?

Not a person, but the California Clipper. It was a PanAm flying boat that was headed to New Zealand in early December 1941 and was about to arrive when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. They were told to strip all markings and return to the US via a westward route that didn't exist just as WWII was getting into full swing. The true story reads like an adventure novel and is absolutely incredible.

If anyone is a fan of Farley they should read "The Chris Farley Show: A Biography in Three Acts"

It's a great book and give a lot of insight into his motivation and the personal demons he faced.

I really wanted to see one on Aryton Senna for a long time, and now Netflix just dropped a miniseries, but I'm a bit concerned by the mixed reviews.

Twenty years ago I thought Antonio Banderas would have been the perfect actor to play him.

The screenplay of the project is an adaptation of that book.

I was going to say Sir Nicholas Wiinton as well. a British stockbroker who saved hundreds of Jewish kids from the Nazis in Czechoslovakia. But apparently one was made last year. I say that because even though it would be seen as similar to Schindler's list, would be hard to do better than this ending if they chose to use it.

I don't think this would ever get to screen because who you gonna find that can pull off all the speed and agility of Peart, and also having to somewhat look like him?!

But really, the main issue with a EVH movie or a Zep movie is if you want to make a film about these people, you're going to want to have a certain amount of sex, drugs and rock and roll. I doubt Pearts' estate will go for that. 95 % sure Wolfe and Alex will never agree to that, and 100% certain Zeppelin will never do that, so then the filmmakers also don't get rights to these artists music for the movie.

So then what are filmmakers left with? Maybe get some rights to some covers the band played, maybe you can get a scene where Van Halen plays You Really Got Me, or You're No Good, etc. A boring movie nobody will go see. Look up the Hendrix movie, All is By My Side. Andre 3000 played Jimi, and I doubt most here are even aware. Because the soundtrack is songs you've mostly never heard of.

Peart had such an interesting and at times tragic life outside of the band.

He biked between cities when possible on some of the 80's tours. He biked a number of countries in Africa.

Later, he motorcycles between cities.

After his daughter and wife both died in less than a year span, he went on a 55,000 mile motorcycle trip by himself from Canada down to Mexico and across Mexico and back up.

Dude worked in a LOT of living in his time on the planet. He could have chilled on the bus between cities on tour. He didn't. And that's after drumming three hour shows.

And so much more. He had quite a life outside of the tragedies.

Hedy Lamarr

* Austrian beauty queen
* Famous for one of the first nude scenes in a major movie (while still in Austria)
* Abused by a controlling husband (Austrian oligarch arms dealer who supplied the Nazis & Mussolini)
* Spied for the Allies against her husband during his meetings with the Nazis
* Fled husband & Austria to the US
* Became an A-List movie star for MGM
* Considered to be one of the most beautiful women in the world
* Self-taught genius and inventor of technologies that have led to things like synchronized stop lights, wi-fi, GPS, bluetooth, torpedo guidance systems, radar jamming signals, encrypted communication, and much more.
* She received no credit for this until 50 years later
* After her 6th failed marriage, she eventually became a bit of a recluse for the last couple of decades of her life
* Finally recognized as the genius inventor that she was just before passing away

There was an oscar-winning documentary about her a few years ago, but not a biopic.

The Marquis de Lafayette. As a teenager, he defied his king to assist the Americans during the revolution and was injured in battle. Eventually the king forgave him, and he was instrumental in securing the French support that helped us win the war. Afterwards, he went from being a hero of the French Revolution, to being imprisoned there, back to being a hero, etc. Was incredibly devoted to his wife, who voluntarily joined him in prison. He just lived an incredible life and was a true believer in liberty to the point of risking his life countless times, despite the fact that he was wealthy and powerful enough that he didn't need to get involved. I think it would make an epic film.

Lafayette is an interesting figure just comparing how the French and Americans view him. For us, he's a hero, for the French, he's seen as something of a fool.

Jack Coffee Hays.

Natural born leader who turned the Texas Rangers from a death sentence into the best fighting force in the country. Dude was skinny and unimposing, but earned the respect of tough mofos who came to Texas because they wanted to fight Indians despite it being probably the most dangerous job in the world at the time.

Of course, to be honest, this movie would have to show viewers the truth about the savagery of the Comanches. Not sure today's Hollywood could stomach that. May have to wait for the pendulum to swing further.
Sapper Redux
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm assuming you're cool with showing the racism and savagery of the Texas Rangers?
