Where were you seeing all of it? I haven't heard of any of this
The lead actress went online and blasted a fan for making an edit of the movie poster to match the Broadway poster. She went off on a huge rant that it erases her identity to lower the brim of a hat. My wife told me about it since she follows a lot of shows and singers on social media.

That's before the whole press tour thing. It's pretentious Hollywood stuff and super offputting if you see any of it. They look like gay skeletons high on X.
Here is Critical Drinker's take on it. NSFW

I thought Erivo kinda dissed the theater community in general when she blasted the fanmade poster. Wicked's poster is iconic and ridiculing someone trying to put her into that is basically saying that she's bigger than the Broadway show. That didn't strike me as someone who's in touch with their theater side.

You are right though... these are normal antics for the terminally "artistic". Maybe it's less about Hollywood and more about being complete divas.
Both are the dictionary definition of what a diva is.

We saw it on Thanksgiving evening. My son and I feel like they could have cut about 30 mins to an hour out of it and it would have been better. Started slow and I almost fell asleep a few times (turkey+a beer in the theater), but by the end, I was enjoying it. My wife and 2 daughters evidently, loved it. After we got home, they watched the Wizard of Oz to try to connect some dots.

I guess some of the fault for me and my son not enjoying it as much is that we were not informed we were going to be there for 3 hours. I didn't think to look that up, lesson learned.

I find the Grande and Ervivo press tour deeply unsettling. It feels like a caricature of the worst theatre kids you knew in college. (source: was a theatre kid)

I haven't seen it yet and I really want to wait until its released to streaming. It seems like a hot cocoa heated blanket experience to me.

I'm not taking my kids specifically because of this therapy session media blitz.

I'm genuinely curious why this has bothered people so much? Not picking a fight, just surprised how many people were put off by it.

I don't usually consider myself a sappy *****, but I've really been touched by their dynamic and the interviews they've done together seem so genuinely affectionate and supportive. I actually loved it and it swayed me from definitely not going to see the movie, to going to see it.

I FINALLY figured it out

check this clip of Andrew Garfield. Garfield is a TOTAL dramatic theatre kid, but in the best way because he really truly believes in the art itself and not just the performative narcissistic self congratulatory nature of theatre culture.

Cynthia and Ariana are caught up in this super wierd emotional circle jerk (excuse my language) and I'm convinced they have passive aggressived each other into competitive eating disorders. It feels shallow and fake and performative, even though I'm sure for them it feels real, but it's just narcissism in a bubble.

even theatre kids are making fun of it though, because it really feels like when theatre kids make fun of themselves.

It's like the people who post on X that they "can't stop sobbing" because some third-tier character on "Yellowstone" dies.

I dunno, the first and second episode of Landman made me cry. that show is very good.

I'm not mad at people for feeling feelings or being theatre kids, but the wicked tour almost feels like.. 30 rock mockumentary or how people think big bang theory is blackface for nerds

Ask Cynthia and Ariana…they're the ones distracting everyone from the actual movie.

I had no desire to see this, I'm not familiar with the play nor am i a fan of rewriting villiains as misunderstood heroes, and Erivo's hissy fit over the fan made poster really turned me off, but the reviews were so good and this seemed like one of the big pop culture events like Barbie I didn't want to miss. Just got out and man I'm glad we saw that in theaters. That was such an experience

I'm a huge Wicked fan. Saw it with KC/IM on Broadway and then 2 other times there. Saw it in London and when touring 3 times. It's become a mother/daughter EVENT for me and my girl.

We were not expecting much of the movie. Saw it Saturday morning and both of us were blown away. Intend to watch it again asap.

Loved the Easter eggs for stage fans. Did not expect the cameos! So fun.

I plan to see it with my sister who has never seen the play and is not familiar with the story or music. Am interested to see her take as a non-fan.

From someone who wasn't excited about the moviehighly recommended!

I typically despise musicals. I don't even like Disney movies with too much song & dance. It just bores me to tears.

But I saw Wicked like 13-14 years ago on Broadway and LOVED it. Kristen Chenowith (sp?) starred in the one I saw. Saw it again when it traveled to Houston because I enjoyed it so much.

Was excited to hear about the movie and hope it lives up, but the actress who plays Glinda is really souring me on it (I won't go on a tangent about it).

So it's worth it? For some reason I thought it was going to be a 2-parter. Is that correct?

Edit...I said Glinda but I meant the actress that plays Elpheba.

My daughters watch some shows that have Ariana Grande in them, and one show makes me want to stab sharp objects into my eardrums so I don't have to hear her annoying voice. So normally, I thought I'd hate this movie because of her. I was pleasantly surprised that she actually did a really good job playing Glinda.

It's worth it, very well done. and yes it is a 2 parter, splits at the intermission point for the stage version.

But with considerable added stuff stretching it out - some is additional book stuff, some is added movie stuff.

Stage version is about 1:30 for first act and 2:40 for movie (with credits).

The stage version 2nd act is about 1 hour. I would expect the movie p2 to be about 2 hours.

Don't let that distract you - if you loved the stage version I think you will love the movie version too.

Ariana is different than Kristen for sure but I would say they both owned it. Took me all of maybe 2 minutes to buy into her as Glinda.

We saw it this past Sunday, other than being excited about it coming out neither me or Mrs. TH knew that it was a two parter. In fact, when they showed "Wicked, Part One" on the opening credits both of us thought there would be an intermission, lol. About 90 minutes it was dragging and we both realized there would be a second movie.

All-in-all, we liked it. We saw the stage production in Dallas many years ago, and I have read the book a couple of times. I didn't really remember too many specifics about the stage production, but I do remember many of the book details. I'm starting to wonder if this is kind of like the Hobbit trilogy? A little too much for one movie, but not nearly enough for multiple.

The first 30 minutes or so is probably the slowest part, after the opening number and before Galinda and Elphaba officially become roommates; after that though, it's laugh-out loud funny and has multiple really well executed numbers; they aren't just passing time before "Defying Gravity".

There are plenty of celebrities I wish would shut up in real life, but I've yet to talk anyone who though Cynthia Erivo's performance was anything less than fantastic. She has some Rosario Dawson in her facial movements, showing emotion without being a caricature. As many have previously mentioned, Ariana Grande is on what the Rewatchables Podcast would call "Apex Mountain" right now, making the sort of stunningly great transition to another medium like Lady Gaga or someone like Bette Midler before her.

Took my 8 and 5 year old daughters to see this.

Was not aware of the 2 hours and 40 min session.

Long but my kids loved it. I enjoyed it as well. Definitely must see at an Alamo Drafthouse
