I was waiting for this. Wanted to post it so badly myself. But I resisted.

You have seriously never heard of One Direction?

And who are these Beatles you are talking about... are they a rap band?

This one isn't that complex. His room was full of drug paraphernalia, he was acting erratic, the hotel staff refused to let him into the pool because of how he was acting. He then trashed his room and jumped off his balcony and landed a few feet away from the pool he was originally trying to get into. It's possible he was trying to kill himself, but sounds like he was just trying to jump into the pool as a form of throwing a tantrum for not getting want he wanted.

Yeah, but from 130 feet (assuming that what the poster earlier said is true)? Even blitzed out of your mind I think most would hesitate at that jump. But if it was a more "normal" third floor (let's say 25-30 feet) then I could see this being likely.

I am 43 and have heard of them, but could easily see how someone my age or older hasn't. I would only be able to recognize one song of theirs, and I always hated that song. It's so bad I honestly always thought they were some cheesy Eastern Bloc boy band.

The sad reality is that so many hardcore addicts are basically suicidal to a certain degree, and willing to take certain risks that no one else in their right mind would take because of it. They get blinded to harsh consequences in a way. Combine that with the actual almost constant inebriation, and it's amazing to me so many of them are alive and kicking for years and years.

I may not be a fan of that type of music, but my heart will always break for addicts (which he appears to have been). Very sad story.

Indeed, and he was probably on stuff I can't even fathom...also the 130 feet up news appears to not be true based on photos posted.

At least he's not in Payne any more.

I feel a little bad for saying that, but I take solace in the fact that I'd love it for someone to make a pun based on my passing.

Songs 2 and 3 here you've probably heard. But it's safe to say that very few if the posters here were in their target demo.

Everyone keeps repeating 130 feet up. I posted on page one it was 45-47 feet. Someone conflated 47 feet for meters and converted to erroneous 130 feet. Not that it matters that much. End result is the same I suppose.

The problem was in the original report that was all on Spanish. The English paper translated it as 30 meters.

This is tragic and sad and awful and I hope his soul has found peace. Prayers for his family and friends in what I imagine is an awful awful, confusing, and horrible time.

That being said... any time I see rich people's drug table the first thing I think is "man it looks remarkably similar to a homeless person's drug stash" like... foil and tea lights and dove... they don't make this stuff in degrees of fanciness. Is there not anything you can buy to make it seem.. less homeless chic?

Since I'm 55, I have no idea who any of these people are or frankly why I even clicked on this thread, but this was my exact (and only) takeaway from Page 1.

What's the purpose of the tea lights and the dove soap. I should know that, but I don't

Somehow, that's its own red flag that its bad. If you are a millionaire and they don't have a way to do it that looks better than what you'd do in a back alley, maybe its not something you should do.

the dove soap mystified me, but I assume that the tea light is for heroine.

I don't know why you are asking me, I only think its heroine, because I listened to Shinedown as a kid, and everyone knows that when you've got a candle and you've got a spoon..

Only asked you because it sounded like you were saying tea lights (googled it, is it instead of a lighter for heroin... odd) and dove was a known drug paraphernalia thing.

Sorry, I didn't mean to say that with an attitude, I just meant that it's funny I'm getting asked since I have literally never bought any drug in my life that I didn't pick up at a CVS drive through.

My youngest was smack dab in the core One Direction demographic. Harry Styles was her favorite but of course she loved them all. Saw them in concert several times.

She took the news hard.

As an old, I know what it's like when your musical heroes pass on. Painful. A sign of aging that is impossible to ignore.

Gorky Park was a boy band right?

Sounded plausible (and vaguely familiar) so I googled it:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorky_Park_(band)

Quote:

. . . Gorky Park (international title), aka GP, or (Russian title) is a Soviet and Russian hard rock band formed in 1987 by musician, composer and producer Stas Namin at his producing centre SNC in Moscow. It is the only Soviet and Russian band to have some success on the MTV and Billboard charts and become world famous.
. . .
Gorky Park participated in the festival alongside Bon Jovi, Ozzy Osbourne, Mötley Cre, Scorpions, Cinderella and Skid Row.
. . .

So more Scorpions than New Kids on the Eastern Bloc. (Tips hat to SlackerAg.)

Edit - emoji failure. Please disregard whatever the emoticon is emoting.

Here I am again (the 55 year old). I do remember Gorky Park, mostly because I made my girlfriend at the time get that festival on PPV on her MTV (my cheap-ass parents didn't have the cable package that included MTV).
I also recall having to run a phone line from outside and through her living room window for some reason so that we could get it. Weird.

I remember that song "Bang" because MTV managed to play it in between a seemingly endless loop of "Winds of Change" by the Scorpions that summer.
