This ep, and Jeff's grin were great. And none of it would have happened if Sol wasn't the one to find the advantage.

Sol actually looked intelligent in the second half of the episode, which was basically the opposite of how he's looked through the first half of the season.

Not sure why Tiyana was so shocked, she must have known Gabe and Sue were going to vote for her, and Kyle, while a great physical player, seems like kind of a pushover for getting him to vote. Even if Caroline votes fro Gabe, it's still 3-2.

I wasn't too keen on the "George Costsnza of Survivor" at first but the more I think of it the more it makes sense. Can only imagine the epic Costanza rant when he noticed everyone cheering when someone else breaks a coconut but not when he breaks one.

On the Podcast last week, Probst also said when they did the schoolyard pick for that challenge, Andy was picked last. Poor guy, but he is really falling into the caricature being set up for him.

I LOVE SURVIVOR AUCTION!

And I love that they had to bid $200 to win that breakfast platter AFTER choking down the grub worms!

I really like Kyle but it seems he is painting himself into a corner with sweeping the individual immunity challenges thus far.

What terrible alliance/jury management by Sierra and Sam. How could they not see that they needed to baby Andy to keep him on their side?

Yep, I bet they have a lot of regrets about how they handled him.

Also, did Rachel play her shot in the dark just so she could see the reaction of the rest of the players? If they started to whisper/scramble, then she knew she was on the chopping block and should play her idol?
Quinn

It did seem like that. Probably a smart play to use the shot in the dark there. If the alliance had gone for Gabe, her vote wasn't needed; if they were coming for your tribe, you had a chance to be safe or use your idol at the very last minute.

Humans will be humans. It's amazing to watch mistakes like that being made season after season. Also, they should never have exposed themselves as a duo in the first place.

Rachel's move with the shot in the dark was really intelligent. Very impressed with that in-game move. I could also watch footage of Andy stumbling past obvious money tubes all day.

Another point for Rachel- either Sam or Sierra was going to be the first one in the jury and she can honestly say she didn't vote for either.

Does each player only get one shot in the dark per season?

Yes

I listened to the On Fire podcast yesterday. Charlie (from season 46) and Probst agreed that Rachel actually used the shot in the dark because she wanted to gauge the reaction of the other players to see if she was the target. Once she read their faces and didn't see them really reacting that she might be blowing up their plan to blindside her, she didn't use her idol, but would have if it it looked like they were all distressed.

Regardless, both called it one of the best plays in forever and are interested to see how players adapt to that idea going forward.

EDIT: Sorry, two of you guys discussed the exact thing from the podcast the night of the episode, not trying to steal your thunder!

Who else still has an idol? Does the 45 year old lady still have hers?

Was surprised to see the vote go 100% to Sol. Interesting that they didn't take out Kyle, but I guess he's not a threat in the game, only immunity challenges (which the jury doesn't value at all).

They're the jury.

Edit: oh are you saying that they didn't take him out bc they're going to be voting eventually and his immunity wins won't matter to them?

I know we're seeing such tiny percentage of what actually happens but when one dude wins 3 straight challenges and almost wins a 4th and you don't vote him off, really seem baffling.

Kudos to the show photographer for this perfect photo of everyone's reactions when Probst told them 4 of them would lose their votes. I really liked that idea and the subsequent "win it back" challenge. So many people sort of skate by while sucking at immunity challenges most years.

Andy and Sam got screwed in that challenge. Their planks were buried deep in there and they couldn't get them out.

and their scarf pull thing ripped in the middle. Maybe an intentional plant by production so Andy didn't win every challenge?

Kyle's the one who's been winning them all.

Sol didn't really seem like that big of a threat. Surprised there was such unanimous support to vote him out

Agreed. Would love to hear Genevieve's justification there other than revenge. Maybe it sets her up where Blue tribe is just surely going to turn on each other soon, Yellow is pretty decimated and now there are only two Red and they aren't a team. So she's a free agent while Blue implodes and/or goes after Sam/Rachel.

Still seems risky though.

On the podcast probst said Andy and Sam were at fault for not digging the thing out and just trying to muscle it out, making the fabric snap. That's why they didn't stop the challenge or give them any sort of re-do.

In past years this thread would be 30-40 pages. This is first year I did not watch. First episode when contestant admitted to being a liberal speechwriter or operative. Almost quit during hard Woke years. Glad to be done with it.

I don't get why people assume because there are gay players (or liberal political writers, in this case) that somehow the show is preachy.

Did yall know this season has the first nonbinary player? Probably not because it hasn't been referenced or highlighted at all. So I guess it shouldn't impact your enjoyment of the show.

Watched the first 10 minutes of episode 1. Not rocket science.
