I had no idea this show even existed until recently. I saw a few clips that seemed interesting, so I figured I'd give it a whirl.

Damn, this show is A LOT. It's also a testament to William H. Macy's acting chops because he plays one of the most hateable characters I've ever seen on TV. I'm on season 3 now, and I feel seething rage every time he's on camera. Frank is just so awful.

But more than that, I find the frequent depiction of adults having sex with minors very disturbing, especially with the nudity. I realize the actors are over 18, but the nudity of characters whose ages are as young as 15 feels really skeevy to me.

first couple of seasons are really good. then it just kind of loses the plot in my opinion. i've never bothered to finish.

3 seasons is a fair amount of watching for a show with frequent depictions of sex/nudity that disturb you and a main character that engenders seething rage when he's on camera.

I never understood why some of the characters made the decisions they made. Lip, for example, could have made a wonderful career/life on his brains, and supported the family. Everyone chooses failure instead of improvement.

I guess if I did understand their reasoning, I'd make the same mistakes.

There are some grade A pairs in this show.

This show also went so completely overboard and obnoxious with the social justice messaging that it became unwatchable in the later seasons.

We stopped watching after nine seasons because of this. Things just going from good to bad in a never ending cycle. I can see that being the point with this dysfunctional group, but it just became too much of a bummer to watch.

This, it became too ridiculous, I think I quit watching halfway through the 2nd to last or last season. Just leave the looney politics out of it and it would have been a much better show.

to be fair, that happens quite often in lower socioeconomic communities. people repeatedly make bad decisions that we do not understand. but, the show got to the point where the decisions were so ridiculous and over the top that I could not enjoy it anymore.

Shameless was my first introduction to the she/her, he/him, they, xer whatever pronouns. I remember watching and thinking, WTF is this crap? This is the most insane, non-sensical stuff you could dream up. Now 10 years later and all the pronoun stuff is being mainlined and pushed onto society like it's normal.

I think where Shameless left off, Idiocracy could have picked up, instead of it's opening scene.

Sea Speed is correct.

V might be one of the most attractive women ever on screen. Fiona is a mess but is a good depiction of what hot white trash can be like.

Whenever Debs became a welder and had a kid, and when the Ginger brother went full-on "gay Jesus" for no real reason, it got unwatchable.

Main point of the show: poor people will always find money for booze and smokes. No matter how poor they are.

It's funny, especially the first few seasons. Deb is Skyler White-level annoying IMO. Is there anyone really redeemable (except for Lip?). No.

The last 2-3 seasons were hard to get through, especially after Fiona left. But the first 7 or so were great IMO. Funny thing is I didn't start watching until the day after I met Jeremy Allen White.

I'm now about halfway through season 4 and it already seems like some of the story arcs are trying too hard. I'm mostly fast-forwarding through the Sheila scenes now.
