What do you call the post grunge bands like 311?DannyDuberstein said:
My own:
50s - oldies
60s-early 80s - classic
80s-early 90s - hair band but some of this can be lumped with classic
However you lump those, grunge was definitely the end.

Sex Pistols were punk.Bruce Almighty said:
Are the Sex Pistols considered classic rock? What about the Black Crowes? I think classic rock can also be a sound and not a time period.

Anything from 1965 to up to the hair bands is classic rock to me.
Pretty much how I define it.
What's interesting is categorizing bands that crossed the "timeline", like Aerosmith. Certainly Dream On, etc. are considered classic rock, but Love in an Elevator not so much.

Sorry, yes, I was referring to the collab. Great mashup. Not classic rock.AustinAg2K said:Why would you say "Walk this Way" is not classic rock? Or are you only referring to the Run DMC collab?NoahAg said:
"Dream On" Aerosmith = classic rock
"Walk this Way" = not classic rock (but still awesome)
Early classic rock is the Stones's first albums, Cream, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Hendrix.
Middle classic rock is Boston, Doobie Bros., Steve Miller, etc.
Late classic rock is young Van Halen, ACDC.
Hair bands, Metallica, grunge, GnR are not classic rock.

Are Black Sabbath and Judas Priest 'classic rock'? Big 70s rock bands for sure.
What do you and TXAGBQ76 know about "classic rock"? Y'all are what the enlightened babies around here call "Olds"....Mowdy Ag said:This.TXAGBQ76 said:

The exception is music by bands who started in the '60's and 70's but continued with their style into the 80's (ZZ Top, Boston, Kansas, etc). Hard stop on all of it at midnight New Year's Eve, 1989.
Somebody was passing around a vicious crapper rumor that the corps turds were upset about a "Big 10 Inch", in quad, on The Quad, once upon a time....TXAGBQ76 said:
And damn proud of it froppe! My hope is they will be treated with same degree of compassion and respect they treat us. Must be tough to be an "old" grandparent to them.
At any rate we saw a bunch of groups in the day and LQ's system was rocking the quad!
Sabbath, yes. Judas Priest, though, isHollywoodBQ said:They're British Heavy Metal.NE PA Ag said:

I don't think there is any real definition of what iclassic rock is and it's probably different for every person. Growing up, I always thought of classic rock as mid 60s to early 80s with the rise of hair bands being the stopping point.
I guess it depends on if it was a rerun or not.TXAGBQ76 said:
Is that before or after the fact?

The overlap of classic rock and cars from the late 60's just feels so right.
Back in Black sounds so much better when combined with the rumble of a 454 Chevelle SS.
