I love their hits from the 70s, 80s and first half of the 90s but never really explored their music outside of the stuff was on the radio and MTV. The Nine Lives album was the beginning of the end though. Songs like Pink, Jaded and I Don't Want To Miss a Thing are awful.

Never saw them, but I met them.
I was a manager at a movie theater in Irving Mall. On a Wednesday evening (a slow night) after the mall had had closed, in walked Aerosmith and two or three groupies. They were on the Get a Grip tour.

I think they saw The Crow.

I wonder how many people could sing What It Takes well besides Steven Tyler. Love that tune.

Legendary band but they just never did it for me. I always thought of Tyler as a poor man's Mick Jagger. Flame away.

Am I the only one with zero interest in watching octogenarians prance on stage in leather pants? Not knocking their bodies of work at all, I just don't have any desire to see guys older than my dad rock out with sub par vocals and overwhelming backing tracks. The Stones, Aerosmith, Paul McCartney, Journey, etc. It's like they think they're senators. Just retire with dignity and swim in your money like Scrooge McDuck.

I know right? How dare people do what they enjoy for as long as they can do it.

It's part of why I respect Rush so much. They wanted to go out at or near the top of their game. Obviously geddy couldn't screech the vocals of some of the earlier albums anymore but was still solid.

He gave up dairy for the entire last tour to help his vocals and they had a day off between shows and he wouldn't speak that entire day to rest his voice for the next show.

They didn't want to end up being KISS or the Crue or someone else with backing tracks.

Even Satriani was saying before this current Hagar tour that he was having to adjust his playing due to using heavier strings because they were tuning down so much so Sammy can hit the notes.

Rush was too proud to do that so they quit while they were still great.

Run DMC saved them from extinction.

They had a fantastic run.

At one time, I thought Liv was super hot.

Best rock band theme park ride.

Sad story. I've tied a bunch of bandanas to my wrists and ankles today in tribute. Everyone at work seems to like it although nobody has really said much because I guess they're respecting my privacy. We'll get through this together. Stay strong.

It was more than just Geddy's voice... Peart physically was ailing and could not do his part to his own satisfaction as well. He held himself to a higher standard than anyone else. He had major issues with his feet, chronic back pain and some debilitating tendinitis in his hands and arms. In fact I'm sure the other two would have kept going with some adjustments to their tour schedule etc. but not without Neil.

I know Neil had physical challenges. He was still hitting all his parts. It was just really hard to do at that point.

Just think how insufferable Peart fans would be if he was a drummer in a good band.

Saw Eddie Money headline a freebie rock station show a while back and dude was absolutely wasted, rolled out his 3 hits right out the gate and slurred his way through them with constant exhortations "cmon everybody you know the words" to get through crowd to sing along. All of a sudden I was like hey wow look at the time, I'm gonna head out, beat the traffic, etc.

Also saw Joe Cocker absolutely kill a set headlining in Austin a few years back and he sounded great. I think it's hit or miss.

Dude, was the Eddie Money show in little rock? I nearly got in a fight with him backstage. He was so wasted.

He was pretty well known for heavy drug & alcohol use, so that's not surprising. He had a ton of great songs back in the day.

I saw Aerosmith in 1993 at The Summit in Houston (now Joel Osteen's church lol) and they were AWESOME. Collective Soul opened for them and it was just a fun fun concert. One of my top 5 I've been to in my life.

Yeah, esop-hageal (lol TA filters for ****) cancer took Eddie Money, which long-time alcoholism is a common cause.

I really liked Get a Grip in 1992 and loved hearing those songs live in the Woodlands shortly after.

Esit to say sometimes I love the internet. Found the set list from the 1993 Woodlands show. Long drive back to Sugarland after that show.
Was that the one Medadeth opened for?

Saw them once on Get a Grip tour, but I couldn't swear on the date.

This is interesting. I don't remember exactly. Apparently Megadeth started the tour opening but was then fired on July 17. They had dates at the Woodlands on July 17 and 19th. I have no idea what show I saw but seemed to remember Jackyl opening but could be misremembering.

the setlist website shows Megadeath for both dates in 1993 in Houston July 17 and 19.

I thought Tyler kicked them off between those shows...something happened backstage during the first one and they got bounced off the second one?

Saw The Black Crowes open for Aerosmith at Starplex in Dallas in 1990 on the Pump tour. Wasn't too familiar with them since Shake Your Money Maker had just come out, but ended up becoming a fan.
