The Stones are one of the great rock bands and probably had more commercial success but if you are implying that Jagger is a better lead vocalist that is absurd.
I'm not. He's a better performer and front man though.
Aerosmith is one of my favorite bands and they were my first rock concert: South Park meadows in Austin 1994. It was an amazing show! They were already aging rockers; I never would have believed they still had 30 years left.
I'm glad they are retiring rather than struggling onstage. If Tyler recovers enough to perform again, I'll be there.

Dream on. The poor liked both, but based on fame I'd think more poor men liked Jagger.
They do have a striking similarity though in one regard, piercing eyes.
Can't believe they have been going this long and this strong to be honest. Not my cup of tea but huge respect to them and their impact on the music world.

It's a pretty apt comparison as far as appearance and style - Tyler and Perry are even referred to as the Toxic Twins (referencing Jagger/Richards' Glimmer Twins).

In HS in 1997 I passed on going to see Aerosmith thinking they were too old. I really liked their music even back then but thought they wouldn't be very good to see live.

Respect them for shutting it down. With backing track technology they could probably fake it for a paycheck.

That being said their best songs are classics and "Walk this Way" with Run-DMC is one of the most influential songs ever recorded.

Aerosmith was done at the turn of the 70s to 1980. Proven by Rock in a Hard Place' (1982). Ugh. Nail in the coffin was Done with Mirrors in 1985. The rest was pure garbage.
Walk This Way remix with Run DMC was greatness though.
Permanent Vacation in 1987 and Pump in 1989 did not save them. The only redeeming value from those is Love in an Elevator.

I really liked Get a Grip in 1992 and loved hearing those songs live in the Woodlands shortly after.

Rolling Stones are a poor man's Beatles and Jagger doesn't hold a candle to Steven Tyler.
Big Ones was one of the first CD's I ever owned. They were such a big part of the early 90's for me as a kid. Their music videos were everywhere, their music was in so many movies, and of course their arcade game. As rock was morphing from 80's hairbands to grunge, they stood out from both.
I remember seeing them at The Woodlands over a decade ago. It was pretty clear even then that Steven's live voice just wasn't what it used to be.

Anyway, Rocks is the best or 2nd best American hard rock album ever made. Don't believe me, see what Slash has to say about it. Or Kurt Cobain, or Nikki Sixx, or Hetfield .

Had the pleasure of seeing them once live at The Woodlands in Oct 2002. It was a very memorable concert for several reasons. First, there was a small stage set up in the middle of the lawn and about halfway through the concert they came out there to do 3 songs so all the lawn people got to be close to the action. It was so cool and the only time in all my years of going to concerts there that I've ever seen that. Secondly, it had rained and rained and was muddy. People were mud sliding down the hill/ aisles. Nothing big, but again only time I've seen that. Lastly, Steven came back out for the encore kind of solemn and announced that he just learned backstage that Jam Master Jay of Run DMC had been killed earlier that evening. In tribute, they did a special version of Walk This Way. It was such a great experience and I'm so glad I went. (Almost stayed home because it was raining so much and we had lawn seats.) Glad that I got to see them once live!

We'll see them again... just not on lengthy tours. Likely one-offs here and there.

Steven Tyler's speaking voice has sounded like gravel for 15 years. You can't scream like that and smoke for decades and get out unscathed. I wasn't surprised his voice failed on this last tour.
