Didn't see this posted yet…
Kyle gass making a really dumb comment at a show in Sydney. Dropped by agent, Jack black cancels tour and questions future. Even deported from Australia.

Gass was presented with a bday cake on stage and asked by black to make a wish. Gas's said 'don't miss trump next time.'

Whoops.

I'm glad to know where he stands. Back in the day, secret service used to handle these kinds of situations rather than the social media circus.

Cancel culture

It's a stupid comment, but all that for a joke?

Well I guess we know the real ending to 'Tribute' now...the demon still ended up eating their souls.

I gathered that they didn't cancel the tour, the tour canceled them due to insane insurance issues moving forward.

No, they cancelled the tour. No way 6 independent venues are going to cancel shows like this over "insurance issues" within a day or two. All of that has been lined up for a long time, and those venues would likely face serious contractual penalties for backing out.

Cancel culture is stupid, but there should still be a line that shouldn't be crossed. He crossed it.

Yea I'm not stating absolute fact, just what i was reading online. Wouldn't the band face the same contractual issues for canceling? I'm sure it has everything to do with the way the contracts are written.

It's always amazing to me when American entertainers feel the need to **** all over their home country in front of a foreign audience.

My post from the Jack Black thread over on F16.

I am really surprised that the rest of the tour has been canceled, I think regardless of what was said on stage, that more was said backstage and there is more than just damage control going on. Friendships end and bands breakup.

I don't think the venues cancelled the tour - it just ran out of Gass.

I watched the video. What he said was a throw-away comment/bad joke.

He apologized. It's not something he should lose his livelihood over.

Joking about wishing a president dead who was literally just shot and 1-2 cm's (or a timely head turn) away from death, and venues and managers backing away from you for very obvious reasons isn't really "cancel culture" at all imo. It is up there with him just dropping the n-bomb on stage. If sponsiors and talent agencies backed off of someone then, would you consider it "cancel culture"? Gotcha attempt failed.

Cancel culture is when I say that biological men should not be showering with my daughter in the swim team locker room and the angry mob coming after me, demanding my life be ruined.

Is it a real apology if you only do it after getting blasted online for hours on end and consequences starting to come home to roost? He's sorry he got in trouble. Not sorry he said it. Both of these guys HHHHATE Trump. To a very irrational degree.

This is simply another case of Hollywood weridos who only know the warped self-reinforcinig ideological bubble they dwell in...having lost complete touch with the average normal American.

I saw some stat that said 20 years ago only like 15-20% of those polled admitted to 'hating' the other party.
A more recent survey came back as like 60%. Commentator went on to say, that is what is wrong with the country.

There is too much literal hate against the other party. No more civil discussions or simple arguing then shake hands and have a beer. It's like crazy ex-spouse hate level, can't be in the same room type of stuff.

Doesn't help that I could show you 3 minute long compilations of democrat politicians (along with media and celebs) literally calling for violence and saying very extreme things about their opposing candidate.

I do not want to start a political fight, but it is impossble to find the equivalent from leaders or influencers on the right. You just can't. It's lopsided. Trump is "Hitler" and "the greatest threat democracy and this country could ever face". They are still saying it, after his head almost exploded on live TV. Very dangerous rhetoric that you very rarely, if ever, see from leaders and influencers on the right.

Hateful, violent rhetoric spewing media, politians, and celebs toning things down and not demonizing and green lighting their opponent would go a long way to ratchet things back down imo. My honest take.

You can hate trump and his cronies and not hate all republicans, btw. But for some reason, any time anyone hears me say I don't like lord trump, they start making all kinds of accusations about me. Guess what? I don't like Biden either.

They would, but, yes, it all ultimately depends on the contracts. Every venue and tour will be different since every venue and performer have different levels of pull, but there's going to be provisions for each side backing out and what they may owe the other party. Venues are probably going to want to be compensated for any costs incurred and at least a substantial portion of lost revenue. Performers will want to be compensated for the same. Venues cancelling is a lot less common than performers cancelling because venues very rarely have a reason.

Both sides likely have insurance for cancellations to cover contractual damages, but that insurance is likely going to be limited in scope to circumstances spelled out in the contract. Some kind of incident that renders the venue unusable or incapable of delivering on their obligations would probably be covered, but, "We just don't want to host you anymore," is probably not going to be a reason for an insurer to pay out to venues to cover the cancellations. If they did, it would likely come with a very steep premium increase.

Insurers also aren't going to start immediately calling and jacking up rates or threatening to drop policies over something like this either. Every performer has detractors and haters and comes with some level of risk, and any additional risk from this would be incredibly hard to quantify, though it would probably be inconsequential. For one, this is in Australia where people care a lot less about American politics. For two, these concerts are right around the corner. You don't plan some kind of attack on this kind of event in a matter of days. They know the likelihood of anything happening is infinitesimal and not worth cancelling a policy over. The only reason they might raise an eyebrow is if there are credible threats being made or some other hard evidence of substantial risk.

I would seriously doubt all of the venues cancelled over insurance concerns a week or two out, and it's infinitely more likely that Tenacious D had a serious falling out and cancelled everything themselves.

The internet and social media are largely to blame. People go online and find validation and reinforcement for their fringe beliefs from like-minded idiots. If you actually go out in the real world, most people get along pretty well.

Hard to feel sorry for him when you consider there are others in the entertainment industry that have lost opportunities for having far more reasonable views than Gass...but views that weren't accepted by the gatekeepers. They've made a lot of harsh and vulgar statements in their music over the years, and nobody cared.

I mean, it shouldn't be asking too much for someone to have enough awareness of not crossing the line of wishing someone would be murdered. Had he just told the foreign audience he was ashamed of his country and of Trump just like the Dixie Chicks did with GWB...his rock audience likely wouldn't have cared at all. That's a common script from many entertainers in today's world, even more than 20 years ago.

But he managed to do the one thing you shouldn't do right after a tragic event.
