The music is great, but no one under 40 even knows what Star 69 is.

Don't mean to be that guy, but I just turned 33 last month and know what Star 69 is

Fall Out Boy did one except they didn't know the original was in chronological order.

Brown Sugar by the Stones starts off with:

"Gold Coast slave ship bound for cotton fields / Sold in the market down in New Orleans / Scarred old slaver knows he's doin' all right / Hear him whip the women just around midnight."

Mick claims it's an anti-slavery song but they stopped playing it live a few years ago anyway.

One Week by Barenaked Ladies has a lot of 90s references that I feel are a little obscure. In contrast, Hey Leonardo by Blessid Union of Souls is only one year younger but has 90s references that people still get nowadays. May just be my personal opinion though.

The Real Slim Shady has a lot of lyrics anyone under 25 would have no clue about.

In today's world he would have just transitioned instead of becoming a tough man.

You got your terms mixed up.
The one ending with "got" is a pile of wood. The cigarette colloquisiam doesn't end with "got"

any references to beepers.........

Ice-T - "6 'N the Mornin'
Had a beeper goin' off like a high-school bell.........

Ice Cube - "It was a Good Day"
Halfway home and my pager still blowin' up....

Beastie Boys - "Dope Little Song"
Put my pager on vibrate, and jerk myself off......

come to think of it, i can't think of one non-rap song that references beepers........

Escape by Rupert Holmes

Tired of his "lady", so he places an ad in the paper trying to meet someone who likes piña coladas, getting caught in the rain, and so on.

Today he'd be "exhausted by his partner", hop on Tinder and boom. New relationship.

J. Geils was my first show. Kingdome. 1977.

Son #1 ( of twins) spent a week at Wolf's Malibu home last week doing some Hollywood something or other.

Jus sayin.

The Replacements has songs that both didnt age well and some that are more topical than ever.

Not many young folks would get Left of the Dial as a reference or understand what an Answering Machine is, though they would relate with the themes of both songs.

On the flip side is Androgynous.
