Who are you ghostwriting for?
Uh, that's kind of why I sign the NDA.
Did the NDA not include the plot?

I gave you about 1% of the plot. Didn't think you could handle anything more complex.

OP - what direction you want to go in? You have 80% classic rock, 10% instrumental / atmospheric, 10% other.

Shadow of Intent - Intensified Genocide is obviously the top pick. If you need a stupid amount of notes from shredding guitars and pummeling doublekicks while something south of Satan is filling your ears with the lowliest of demonic growls, there ya go. It's perfect.

On the real though, Adagio for Strings is an absolute banger and would fit well with that theme I think. Especially once the realization kicks in of what just occurred. I'll link it.

After I get the kids to bed I'm going to dump them all on a Spotify Playlist and get to work. I'll make notes on what I liked best and write back, probably around 3am

Is ghostwriting prevalent in sci-fi? I've never really thought about it or looked into it.

Some of the more famous series have been handed off to another author at some point.

Most of my ghostwriting is non fiction but fiction is way more fun. This is probably the 9th or 10th one I've done that is Sci fi overall and the 3rd for this client. The first of the series was a niche success but the 2nd one did better. I got a nice bonus for that one. Most of my clients are people who have a good idea and have probably written one really good chapter but it took them 1-2 years and they have no idea how to get from there to the end. They don't want to abandon the project but they feel ownership for the characters and story so they look for someone who can adapt to what they have and bring the rest of it to life. Some are super strict on plot, some just have major beats they want to get to and let me world build the rest. In 2021 I wrote one that was 220,000 words long! (About 900 pages)

I would challenge you to fit in a Gregorian Chant. The world would be a better place with more of those.

Here's a banger I sometimes have bumping chilling at red lights. The 30 second mark of this to about 1 minute may have promise.

Going to need some love scenes, even if solo, with a machine or videos of lovers. Coping with loss of normality.

So say you were a ghostwriter of a book that went on to win a Hugo or a Nebula…would you receive any kind of recognition?

Nope. My standard contract says that when I receive the final payment, I renounce all claims and rights to the book in perpetuity.

That would be like the coolest thing ever that you could tell nobody about.

The first series that came to mind was The Expanse. I know James SA Corey is a pen name for two authors collaborating on the series, but I wonder if they had any help? And if so would they admit it?

I will say that something that I wrote once ended up with the author on a cable TV talk show talking about the book, and it was really weird to watch it. Most times I don't give a second thought to stuff after it's out the door, but the author sent me the link and it was pretty surreal. Like a very small part of me was like, "Hey, you didn't write that, STFU!"

I'm into the novel and the playlist now, more later.

About 40% of the way through the first deliverable section

Contributors who have found themselves added to the story so far include:

Spilner as a rival astronaut for Echoes
A spacecraft has taken the M83 designation for VP at Pierce and Pierce's suggestion of M83 Outro
Blake is the mission director for NIN - The Day the World Went Away
Noah is the on-call psychiatrist for Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata
Cornell and Thorpe as two missing astronauts as the user names aren't that conducive to a story.

I've liked several more but haven't worked them in yet. Will be wrapping up today.

so the book is also going to play music?

what's the actual objective here?

as a non-fiction writer, it is such a scam that anyone can put down ideas from their brain as quickly as they can type and call it a book.

while Historians spend YEARS researching and compiling literally 600 footnotes from different archives, museums, university libraries around the world. It has cost me hundreds of dollars in fees to purchase the rights to publish battle maps, photos, art work.

(joking about a scam but you fiction writers have it easy!)

I asked for a play list of people based on musical cues based on the minimal plot description. I told people that if I really liked their contribution, I'd try to work their user name into the book. There is no music in the book, at least I'm not planning on it.

I write fiction and non-fiction books, probably about 80% non-fiction, as well as blog, articles, whitepapers, case studies, copy for websites, copy for marketing, copy for emails, speeches, and more.

Together We Will Live Forever - Clint Mansell

It's from The Fountain sound track. One my favorite instrumentals that is not by Zimmer or Williams.

The Last Man also from the same soundtrack, with a more appropriate title.

I think it they would evoke the kind of emotions you're looking for.

Pearl Jam Inside Job.

Sounds to me like it's on a spaceship.

This is the perfect mood for what you're writing.
The loneliness, the sadness, the choice made.

I feel like Elliott Smith exudes loneliness and isolation in a way nobody has quite yet mastered. I'm picturing a scenario where The Astronaut has watched the earth explode through a viewing window and is turning back to his station like "Welp"

A low riding junkie girl
Rode down south to your little world like a dream

You can do it if you want to
You can do it if you want to
You can do it if you want to be like me

I wouldn't need a hero if I wasn't such a zero
If I wasn't such a zero

Good to go

All I ever see around here Is things of hers that you left lying around
It's all I ever see around here

She kicked New York like a curse
And you traced her footsteps in reverse up to Queens

You can do it if you want to
You can do it if you want to
You can do it if you want to be like me

I wouldn't need a hero if I wasn't such a zero
If I wasn't such a zero

Good to go

All I ever see around here
Is things of hers that you left lying around

It's all I ever see around here
Some empty envelopes from some other town

It's all I ever see around here
I'm waiting for something that's not coming

Missed that section of OP where you were doing this. If you like any of mine, clearly my handle is a no - go, but feel free to use my sons's name "Thatcher" in lieu of my handle.
