Seems very underwhelming on the surface. Granted the Daniel Craig reception wasnt great at the time he was announced, but he at least proved he had the chops with Layer Cake. But I will trust EON.
For me, Daniel Craig was an out of left field choice simply because I hadn't seen much of him.

"Wasn't great" is an understatement. There was almost a large-scale revolt when Craig was chosen. The site Craignotbond.com was huge, and Craig showing up to the opening presser in a life preserver caused British media to go berserk.
ATJ is underwhelming in a lot of things but he was scary in nocturnal animals, and great in Bullet Train. He's got something, you just don't really see it in Kick-Ass, Age of Ultron or (from what I hear) Godzilla.
Love this for ATJ! He'll be great as Bond.
He is a strong actor in what I have seen him in. I am sure he would do well. His performance in Nocturnal Animals is memorable.

My guess is we're still a year or two away from anyone being cast. As far as we know, they don't have writers, a script, director, or even a general take/direction yet. And I would think they'd need most of those things before offering the role to anyone, especially a role of this magnitude, requiring a ten-year commitment or so.

EON's non-denial is interesting, and it sounds like there could be some behind-the-scenes developments by now. That said, I would be shocked if creatives have been hired and a direction has been settled without even a morsel of it leaking, but who knows…
I thought it was going to be Idris Elba and so was looking forward to that.

I think the guy in "The Gentlemen" series (Theo James) would be a good James Bond.
I loved the Roger Moore movies, even though he was on the older end of things as far as Bond goes.
