Saw this last night. I enjoyed it thoroughly. This falls on the very good but not super bad ass spectrum of ratings.

I agree. My daughter and I saw it yesterday, and we both really enjoyed it.

Saw it this morning. Good one.

I enjoyed this one more than the original. I liked the characters overall more. The visuals were about what one would expect. Story was okay and similar to the original.

We went Wednesday. From the previews I had extremely low expectations. It's not a great movie by any means, but it is very entertaining and much more than what I expected.

Solid comic relief. He was no Philip Seymour Hoffman, but he did his job.

The incessant nitpicking is comical. This was absolutely a great summer movie! The wife and I went yesterday, and we both loved it. And what a great soundtrack!

Saw it this morning as well. Loved it. Thought it was better than the original.

Yea, some of the stuff in the movie is really dumb. The idea that tornadoes just spring up out of no where without warning (rodeo scene) and the amount of people that get sucked up over the span of 1 week is amazing. They'd make you think hundreds of people get killed every year by getting taken up by one.

The most realistic thing is the main character experiencing the trauma in the opening scene and getting the f out of Oklahoma and moving to New York

Still, awesome, awesome movie. And it was FUN! No hidden messaging or something like DEI directly in your face. Cool way to spend a couple hours.

What this one lacks in the goofy charm of the original, man does it make up for it in spades in character, story, and emotion.

Kate's arc is incredibly well done, Powell kills it as the cocky, but more-than-meets-the-eye "bad boy," and the two of them coming together in exactly the way they do really is such great stuff, wrapped in a legitimately good plot to boot. I think I slightly prefer the simplicity of the original's plot, as it's just so straightforward, memorable, and iconic (in a '90s kind of way). That said, there's no way it could ever deliver the emotion this one does, so I'm going to say it's a draw in the end?

Either way, what an awesome time all around.

It's basically Top Gun: Maverick light, except with no legacy characters, and it works shockingly well on its own in that regard.

Our audience didn't react a ton throughout, but the second the credits came up at the end everyone burst into legitimately enthusiastic applause, and the whole theater was absolutely buzzing on the way out. The third act is so damn good, and really goes out on a high note, especially that final scene, resulting in one of the those movies where everyone is gathered in little groups in the lobby after, smiles on their faces, talking about all their favorite parts.

To the point where, after a monster box office this weekend, I think word of mouth is really going to carry over to next weekend, and in combination with Deadpool & Wolverine could make for one of the biggest box office weekends in years. Heck, there's a chance it could even top Barbenheimer's opening weekend, which was exactly a year ago today, a feat no one would have predicted just a couple months ago. All-in-all, after a few bumps and bruises, 2024's box office is now somehow beating all expectations, and movies like this one are a big reason why. It's just a solid, crowd-pleasing effort, with spectacle and story, for men and women, with no magic or superpowers, that gives you hope for where blockbusters finally seem to be heading again. Which is a nice balance of all of those things, and not one dominating the others.

Let's talk about the real plot hole.

Javi straight up executes Corenswet's character by abandoning him in the path of the tornado.

I'm curious when private property rights ranked below storm chaser's need to get to where the tornado is? How many fences did they plow through to get those radar things into position? Do real storm chasers regularly drive onto private property with no regard to fences?

Yeah, I get that it's a movie.

Eh, those fences were gonna be demolished by the tornado anyway.

Saw it on a Cinemark XD screen (IMAX lite) last night in the Berg. 2 hour runtime breezed by with the pacing. Really felt like a 90s-esque film. Fun little homages to T1 -

  • [sp]The red Dodge Ram 2500 is entering Millenium Falcon territory of iconic.
  • Boone gives us a 'Suck Zone' shoutout tightening his harness.
  • Rusted out Dorothy can in the intro sequence.
  • Had to look it up, but the angry hotel guy was Bill Paxton's son, James.
  • DEJ rocking the white tank a la Helen Hunt. [/sp]

It's been said before, but Glen Powell is the new movie star in town. Dude is fun to watch on a big screen. Was really impressed with Daisy Edgar Jones, too. Really fun summer flick. Gonna take my 60 yr old folks to see it next weekend.

still don't understand spoiler tags. GG

There were the trailing vehicles right behind their truck, but yea I thought that same thing as he pulled off at first, lol.

Agreed. As the article states, that's not what the movie/Kate's arc is ultimately about.

It sounds like we all thought the exact same thing, because I'm right there with you guys.

Speaking of, for those interested, David Corenswet, who plays Javi's business partner Scott, is the new Superman.

I thought that they should have smooched because the scene outside the airport totally set it up. It felt like the payoff was missing, which it was, IMO.

Overall, a ton of fun. Thought it was a good twist on the plot of the first one. I did think it was odd that Powell's character is from Arkansas and not Texas but that's not a huge deal. Great summer movie.

Just got out of a full packed XD screening. Took the in-laws. It was so much fun. Hadnt had this much fun since Top Gun Maverick. Way better than I expected. There were some teary eyes in the room and the final act was amazing. This movie is not something you wait for on streaming. This was meant to be seen on the big screen. Can't recommend enough.
