Is Kindle Unlimited worth it? I find so many deals for <$2 now on Amazon that not sure such a savings.

I always have 2 books going, one hard copy and one on my Kindle. I have my kindle with me everywhere I go and read throughout the day of I'm at lunch, waiting for an appointment, etc.

In the evenings I usually read while watching TV, especially while watching sports. Sunday's NFL schedule gives me an excuse to watch several games and knock out a couple hundred pages while I halfway past attention to the game.

I average around 60-70 books per year, mostly in the 400-500 page range.

It has enough on there for me to justify the 8-10/month it is. I think you can have 10 unlimited books on your library at a time.

Finished Dungeon Crawler Carl book 1. This is the part where I am suppose to switch over and now read Dresden Files book 3 and 4. I think they are going to have to wait. Blowing up the plan. No way I can't read them knowing I have Carl's Doomsday Scenario waiting on the shelf for me to finish them. Carl and Donut it's going to be!

Burned through the final Scholomance book pretty fast. Was worried I might be a bit disappointed with the location being different than the first two, but I enjoyed it.

Not sure what I'm going to read next. Have been considering rereads of Patient Zero, Old Man's War, and Adrian's Undead Diary. Would be up for some more dark academia as well. Babel has been on my list for a while so that might be what I go with. Also considering Atlas Six and The Secret History.

Read Babel last year, just didn't get into it that much. Bit of a struggle to finish.

I was in Brownwood for some training this week and found this cool bookstore that is in an old theater. Got Neverwhere by Neil Gaimon, a collection of Horror stories from Robert E Howard, and The Necronomicon, a collection of horror from HP Lovecraft and others. Currently on the 3rd Wax and Wayne book, but now I have some good reading materials for spooky season

Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald's 4th and final(completed) novel finishes my re-read of all his novels. I rank the four as follows:
1. The Great Gatsby
2. The Beautiful and Damned
3. Tender is the Night
4. This Side of Paradise
This Side of Paradise fell from #2 to #4 upon my re-read, with the two beneath it each moving up one spot. You can't go wrong with any of the four, though The Great Gatsby remains, in my opinion, a literary masterpiece unparalleled by any other novel.

Not to derail, just curious. I listen to and read many books. While listening, it annoys me a little when words are pronounced incorrectly (not talking about things like Al-U-min-E-um, just gross mispronunciations). Besides mispronunciations: I have noticed, particularly in Science Fiction/Fantasy, that the authors unanimously use dived as the past tense of dive instead of dove. Does that strike anyone else as odd or am I just out there? I realize, technically, it is correct. It just seems odd that they all do it and sounds odd to me when they do.

It was written in 1999, so a lot has changed, but reading is reading and writing is writing, regardless of iphones, electric vehicles, and the post-9/11 world. He says a key to becoming a great writer is to read a lot. He modestly reads 70-80 books per year. I think a few poeple here are in that range. (Not me!)

I'm not an author but wife is along with many of our good friends and I work in publishing. 70+ books a year is nice, but it's a little unrealistic IMO. If you are putting out a book every year or every two years, there isn't enough time for that level of reading. Between writing, edits, tours/promo it can be very time consuming. I think Stephen King is very talented and at this point in his career (even when he wrote On Writing) he had a great amount of freedom in his own process. He does this full time and is probably very lightly edited. I think he is a pretty unique person with talents a lot of others don't possess.

I would say many if not most published authors also have full time jobs in addition to writing books.

You know more than me, but I'd put Stephen King up there as the Michael Jordan (GOAT) of living and current writers. Incomparable, even when you include names like Patterson, Grisham, Rowling, Koontz, and even Tolkien. When he was reading 70 books per year, he was very much a full time writer. It was writing in the morning, lunch, nap, then reading in the evening. At some point in there, he was also doing a lot of coke, which probably sped some things up. It was good to hear him finally say that drugs are not crucial to the creative process. I don't do coke, myself, and I'd like to think I can still be creative on occasion. I've also read 30 books per year for a while, so hey, I'm almost half way to King's numbers. Now if I could only write about 40 incredible novels.......

This says screenwriting but honestly it's a really solid book. I know a ton of authors that swear by it as it offers a lot of practical tips and advice.

I'm running way behind on my goal to read 60 books this year. Just wrapped up the latest Jack Carr novel and the Lost Metal by Sanderson. I really enjoyed both - two of the best books I've read this year.

I went ahead and did a reread of the Terminal List series before reading Red Sky Mourning and enjoyed them all a second time through.

Now the big decision - do I take on rereading the Stormlight Archive before Wind and Truth comes out? I just bought the boxset of the first 4 books in Tor hard backs. I have them on Kindle but feel like I was missing out on part of the experience of being able to easily refer to the maps and artwork in the books. Just staring at them in physical form is daunting. You don't realize how long they are when reading on the Kindle. LOL

I had a few years when I was single and childless where I would hit between 40 and 50, but I was also writing less in those years, so there's definitely a balance there. Last few years, I strive to average a book every other week, and spend at least an hour daily writing (more if I can manage). I'm sure if I had the kind of nest egg Stephen King does, I'd do a lot more of both, but that's something he certainly has rare privilege to do.

I kinda get stuck in a "i know this is good so I'll just reread this instead of trying something new I may not like" a lot. Plus with these ongoing series I'm reading i like to go back and get it fresh on my mind instead of trying to remember something I read however many books and years ago. Plus when I reread or rewatch something I always catch things I miss. Plus a lot of the times it is fun to see the foreshadowing done that didn't click the first time

Dungeon Crawler series has drawn me back to casual fiction. I got tired of waiting on Sanderson and other serial novelist so was re reading some old Piers Anthony (Adept series) until I stumbled on the Dungeon Crawler series and wow it has me hooked!

I'm starting my Stormlight reread in preparation of the release of Knights of Wind and Truth in December.

Finished up Book 6 of Dungeon Crawler Carl. The hype is definitely validated and loved them all. Also validated my hatred of reading non completed stories. Ugh. Now gotta wait for the next one, like a damned peasant. And the story arc lead up and ensuing cliffhanger is massive at the end of the sixth book, of course.

So as a series so far this is a 5 star rating from me. On a 10 scale I'd go 9.5/10

Very entertaining to read with great characters while being a very good story and adventure and plot all around. Favorite characters are Mongo and Samantha because obviously, they are the best. I wonder what says about me….

Been on the road last few days and forgot my Kindle so pretty much felt like dying the whole time. But I do usually keep a random emergency truck book in the center console. Always be prepared!

So I ended up reading Recursion by Blake Crouch. Pretty nifty techno thriller that makes ya think about the implications of life and choices. Enjoyed it quite a bit and manages to wrangle in the time space loop paradox fairly well in a single book.

You said "space loop paradox" and I was immediately interested. Looked it up and this book is definitely jumping to the top of my queue!

That's a good backup option, definitely a solid choice regardless of being desperate or not. I'm also a big fan of his Wayward Pines series. He's got some good stuff, not just Dark Matter.

As an aside, I wish that Apple TV+ would leave Dark Matter at just one season and put together his other work instead. They would have some fantastic material to work from vs making up another season that should end at just one.

I only made I through three. Not a fan of how he changes the story telling to disjointed start-stop from different characters perspective, for each chapter.

It's common with that genre, but I enjoyed the different style of the first two. It was great story telling in those.
