Avoided the thread because I was behind til now. Just wasn't that great for me. Maybe my expectations were too high after sesson 1. But them walking around the hospital with their masks on, the seals giving the scooby doo explanation instead of just shooting them at the end etc. I'm ok with some cheese but this season was over the top. Plus, they must have said "assumptions kill" and "details matter" like 50 times.
The other thing is that the appeal of Reacher is in his mystery. Just wasn't enjoyable for me seeing that all pulled down. With the whole story I kinda liked him less.
But still wasn't bad, hope season 3 rebounds a bit.

Less engaging that S1 for sure but still an entertaining watch.

Definitely not as good as season 1 but still enjoyable and I hope they go back to what made season 1 special for season 3.

With the exception of the final episode the helicopter/holding a stretcher by one hand was too hard to suspend disbelief on, pun intended, I thought it was fine. It is terrific escapism.

Sorry, it started out fun, but then just became…… bad. They'll get raked over the coals for this. And rightfully so.

It really does mimic the Tom Cruise movies. The first one was punchy and edgy (despite having to ignore that Tom Cruise bears literally no resemblance to Jack Reacher) and the second one was cliche action trope after cliche action trope.

They needed another season of Reacher being the main character and interacting with a bunch of people who had no idea who he was instead of going right into the superfriends plot. Part of the Reacher mystique is people not knowing what to do with his size, his ferocity, and him being a vagabond. It's fun seeing the good guys just as weirded out by it as the bad guys. This season just didn't have much of that, it was only the villains who underestimated Reacher.

Where it lost me was the biker gang girl organizedly taking everybody's guns and putting them into a little bag for safekeeping before the fight.

Also Langston had already had his seasoned cops get easily dispatched by Reacher and company so he knows at this point, this "big guy" is more than your average ex-military dude. He should have made that crystal clear to the biker gang, don't mess around, just execute them, no loose ends.

And Langston doesn't like loose ends.

Forbes article above nails it.

I've got a friend who's a major fan of the books and he says that he's read that Reacher will be back alone next Season. They haven't named the book, but they've picked it and he's solo again. Just reporting what I'm hearing, and keeping my fingers crossed.

Season 1 = great

Season 2 = dogcrap

I heard it was going to be the second novel, Die Trying, where he is not with his former team. Supposedly Die Trying was Ritchson's favorite Reacher novel. Here's the high level summary that doesn't give anything away:

Quote:

When a woman is kidnapped off a Chicago street in broad daylight, Jack Reacher's in the wrong place at the wrong time. He's kidnapped with her. Chained together and racing across America toward an unknown destination, they're at the mercy of a group of men demanding an impossible ransom.
I sure hope it's this one or one where he's on his own, or at least kidnapped with someone who doesn't know what he's capable of as that's what made the first season so enjoyable.

I was hooked after the season 1 premiere epidose but I knew I was going to really enjoy it when Roscoe lets him borrow a gun, tells him to be careful, he immediately fires it at a tree stump and she says "what the hell, man!" He responds "never trust a firearm you haven't personally test fired" and then you catch just the slightest grin on Roscoe's face. Perfect scene.

Somehow I stumbled across Commando on tv the other night. The similarities between it and Season 2 are striking.

And the poor mans Christopher Walken was awful.

Definitely didn't like s2 as much. Didn't mind the sidekicks all that much, but I agree the books where he is alone are better. I also thought he was just TOO buff and roid looking. He is supposed to be a huge guy who is a vagabond, you don't look like that useless you are working out in a gym. Not sure why, but it bothered me.

Hope they do go back to the other style of book where he was alone In a new town.

Though this was a book series I actually stopped reading because it went over the top in a novel to the point I had to drop out. That's pretty rare.

Enjoy the show enough to keep watching. Not witcher s2 bad enough yet.

Did season 2 follow the book closely?

If so, did they merely pick a bad book?

I read the second novel and can definitely see them making that into a season, if only because you know Hollywood can't resist that subject matter. The only question is whether or not they'll have the baddies wear red hats as part of their uniform or put them in Texas as part of a Texit group.

We rewatched S1 in preparation for S2 and it's the exact same level of cheese and suspended reality.

Which is exactly what I want in a Reacher series. I will say this season is a lot funnier that S1 imo.
Every book follows the same format, just varied characters. They are entertaining but if you are looking for something deeper, you are probably out of luck. Reacher is wandering across the country, bumbles into something dastardly, experiences some flashbacks, a hot woman gets involved, at some point he bangs hot woman, beats the ever lovin' mess out of or just kills some bad guys who are either Ukrainian, bent officials, Armenian or white supremacists. Reacher kills every bad guy involved. Leaves town without love interest and the cycle repeats next book.
You forgot a major plot point...

Drinking coffee.
And Clark bars. Didn't remember that from the books.

Things that S2 got wrong:
1. "Nobody messes with the Special Investigators" how a focus group didn't get this killed, I don't know. Overly tacky.
2. There was no mystery to the villain. The "AM" guy was not really related to Reacher and those characters.
3. The is Schwan a good guy or bad was built up and it turns out he was dead. It was built up like this would be a Snape type character the audience would hate, then at the most critical time he confirms he was always good. Instead we got an eyeball in a jar.
4. The scene after the cop is killed where they run over the guy with the suv. Obviously the killer would have heard the SUV.
5. The helicopter with the machine gun somehow can't hit a giant that just moved slow. It is clear Reacher put on weight but you can tell he has little agility.
6. The story wasn't about power like S1 with Margrave. It was just missiles and greed. Not as gripping of a plot.

I really hope Terminal List does a better job of not screwing up the sequel season.

What's the big deal with missiles that can shoot down planes? How is this different from any other air to air or ground to air missiles in history ?

He was so focused on telling the little girl that he was going to kill her that he wasn't paying attention to anything else.

The rest of it is valid but I don't care. I liked it.

It was watchable. The difference between a gripping show I look forward to watching a 2nd time and a show I'm not upset I watched but won't recommend it to a friend.

I think its thing was it would "disengage" throw off a helicopter / airplanes avoidance software, then reengage and blow it up. It is why it doesn't fly straight into the helicopter but flies up in the air by it then hits it.
