A non-typical Christmas movie I enjoy is "We're No Angels" (1955) starring Bogart, Aldo Ray, and Peter Ustinov.

Ustinov usually plays some sort of live-by-his-wits type and he does here, too, but Bogie and Ray play against their tough guy image in a comedy that is a slow burn but which I have always found a funny and satisfying Christmas miracle.

The premise is that the three "angels" are cons on Devil's Island who have escaped the prison but not the island and who ingratiate themselves with a sweet family (led by Leo G. Carroll, perhaps best known as the federal agent who works with Cary Grant in North by Northwest) in order to kill and rob them.

The movie is quirky and needs to be taken with a ton of salt, but the lines are clever and well-delivered, as the three eventually set about doing God's work and bringing some peace to the lives of their adopted family.

As Bogie puts it,
Quote:

We came here to rob them and that's what we're gonna do - beat their heads in, gouge their eyes out, cut their throats. Soon as we wash the dishes.

New one this year, The Shepard on Disney+., a Christmas ghost story by Frederick Forsyth

Well done but probably not everyone's cup of tea but this one has a bit of nostalgia for me. In my early teens if I read anything that wasn't SciFi or Fantasy it would be Forsyth/Jack Higgins thrillers. I also loved building model aircraft. Santa was on the ball one Christmas and in my stocking was the novella and simple small scale models of the two aircraft featured in it (de Havilland Vampire and de Havilland Mosquito),

We watched 8-Bit Christmas on Max last year, and it was hilarious. Very relatable if you grew up in the 80's and 90's.

That looks almost worth it to subscribe to Max for a month the so I could watch it.
Just checked - it's on Prime. Christmas just came early for wcb. Thanks a million. Can't remember the last time I looked forward to watching something this much.

For me, it was the Atari 2600. However, I never got one. My parents waited a few years and got me the ColecoVision instead. I was one happy kid!

Watching Christmas Vacation. Have seen it hundreds of times, and never noticed Eddie's son is wearing a Las Vegas shirt. Kind of a cool Easter Egg considering they live in Vegas in the next movie.

A bit abstract, but for me these are my favorite movies that either take place around Christmas, "feel" like Christmas, or remind me of Christmas time…

Watched LA Confidential for the 20th time last night. Fantastic movie with a stellar cast.

I don't care that it's a story about a bunch of Jewish guys in Baltimore. It's not Christmas until Kevin Bacon takes the place of the stolen baby Jesus in the manger.
