Exactly. Eating the bread at the end was awesome.

This was a fantastic season. My favorite since season 1 and 2.

Thought they nailed the ending. Loved the message of forgiveness. Really really good.

Still processing the finale. The commentary here helps me appreciate it a little more.

It does seem unfair that Roy survives but the state trooper is dead.

Lorraine had a line earlier in the season, that reverberates throughout (to the banker that rescinded the sale)... "He thought dying was the worse thing that could happen to him."

-Loved that the quirky, Minnesotan politeness basically changed Munchs mind at the end
-when Dot's husband handed Munch the orange soda..."the man is thankful", hahahaha
-also, opportunity for Bisquik to capitalize with a Fargo themed commercial

I'm not sure if "Vienna sausages" was a euphemism or if prisoners do something with them, but I don't really want to know.

eh, that is what he gets for not shooting Roy as he is taunting him with the knife

True.

Some thought on JJL's character. She was never really redeemed or changed. She grew to like Dot only because she saw that Dot was a fighter and could be ruthless.

She thought Dot was like her, but she wasn't. Dot's motivations came from survival and protecting those closest to her. JJL's motivations came out of greed.

The hug was loveless.
Lorraine's relationships were transactional.

Being "principled" was looked down upon by Lorraine and Roy.

Trying to figure out the point of the dugout/tunnel, both in practical terms of its purpose and as a metaphorical device in the storytelling.

It led off property and would have allowed him to escape if Gator hadn't told on him. As far as what it did for the story, yeah not sure. Maybe to give a slight thought to him escaping, and to give him a place to kill the cop.

Welp that was a very underwhelming finale, especially compared to seasons 1 and 2.

We never got anything out of Chekov's tank and the showdown didn't live up to the hype and Whit Farr's actions were pretty pathetic.

He wimps out in episode 1 and Dot saves his ass...he lets Gator steal evidence from the locker with no repurcussions, basically gets Danish killed and lets a gut shot Roy get the drop on him when he KNOWS what he's capable of...just a comedy of errors for a secondary protagonist we're supposedly rooting for during the season.

The whole Munch scene at the end felt more like something out of Monthy Python's The Meaning of Life, like the Grim Reaper visiting a dinner party.

So much promise wasted. Oh well.

Noah has lost his fast ball.

Very weird finale. I mean it coulda been over in 15-20 mins. Overall the season was good (preferred it to 3 or 4) but the finale was a little bizarre

Also, did I miss the tie in with the other seasons? Or was this season completely independent?

Enjoyed the finale. It was unexpected in its content, interesting and a bit heavy even with the humor.

Maybe more Coen brother movie references than any season, xwuite heavy handed especially earlier episodes. But walking into Munch was so like walking in on chigurgh, almost note for note on body language and some of the dialogue.

I can see some of the sin eater desperation parallels to those who suffer in domestic abuse situations, I wasn't sure what to take from Trooper Farr's death. I'm sure it served a purpose or made a statement I'm not seeing, or perhaps it was only to hit on the level it hit me - a principled but somewhat soft person meets a tragic end when encountering evil beyond their comprehension.

The Munch character was so bizarre and had so much humor in it, I couldn't help but enjoy even when I wasn't really seeing how it would fit into this story.

I enjoyed this season. Still behind season 2 - my personal favorite season of any tv show - and season 1 - just two great characters and actors driving a great story - but very enjoyable.

I'm surprised we even got to a season 5 of this show, feels like the end.

The tie in was Dot getting kidnapped in her house and the husband ran a car lot. Other than that I got nothing.

Re: The last 2 posts mentioning Witt Farr and prior tie-ins... read the Salon interview posted above. Hawley explains both.

He discusses this in the article that was posted. He didn't feel the need to do anything with this story to tie it in.

I guess he didn't realize those were in the movie. My mistake.

He asked about tie ins to other seasons of the TV show, the previous seasons (of the TV show) had some ties to each other.

Repeated references to the move Fargo, and to other Coen brothers films, have been in each season.

My mistake. I only recall connections between season one and season two. I recall all of them connecting to the movie, not the seasons.

I'm confused about the Moonk character. Do the show's creators want us to believe that he truly is 600 years old or something like that? Or that he is just some disturbed character living in some sort of fantasy world?

The series has frequently included non-sequitur elements, like the UFOs in Season 2. Probably a precedent somewhere in a Coen Brothers movie.

He was implied to be a 600 year old sin eater (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sin-eater), which I hadn't been familiar with prior to this reference in the show, who couldn't die (or even sleep) and lived in a weird limbo. It doesn't seem like the ancient practice implied longevity, but it seems to have been used here as a plot point.

Since the show had a heavy domestic violence/abuse storyline, and they focused on the Dot and Munch exchange in the last episode, I took it to mean there were parallels between a sin eater and a domestic abuse victim. The abuse victim can feel shameful and guilty despite the sin being committed by someone else (who in turn blames the victim, absolving themselves of wrongdoing). This can leave an abuse victim rudderless, lifeless. In Dot's case she broke the cycle, escaped, and joined a loving family and found purpose and positivity there. She told Munch he should partake of something whose essence is love and joy, he did and appeared changed - like Dot.
