Conquest (1972) and Dawn (2014) tell basically the same story (ape revolt against humans). War (2017) and Battle (1973) tell basically the same story (but less so than Conquest/Dawn), with a battle for supremacy between declining humans and ascendant apes.TCTTS said:
This next trilogy takes place between the two franchise eras (omitting the 2001 Tim Burton/Mark Wahlberg remake)...
2011 - Rise of the Planet of the Apes
2014 - Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
2017 - War for the Planet of the Apes
2024 - Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
20?? - [X] of the Planet of the Apes
20?? - [X] of the Planet of the Apes
1968 - Planet of the Apes
1970 - Beneath the Planet of the Apes
1971 - Escape from the Planet of the Apes
1972 - Conquest of the Planet of the Apes
1973 - Battle for the Planet of the Apes
... so do with that information what you will.
As noted earlier, next year's Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes takes place 300 years after 2017's War for the Planet of the Apes. That said, we have no idea how long before 1968's Planet of the Apes 2024's Kingdom takes place. There's also, of course, the possibility that Kingdom could be leading up to a complete re-imagining/remake of 1968's Planet of the Apes. So less of a bridge between the two eras and more charting a new course.
they are definitely 1970s films. And honestly the production values went down with each film, as they cranked them out very quickly o meet the demand. on top of that, they were slashing the budget. Each subsequent film had a budget about half out of the previous film, despite the fact that the first film had produced revenue almost 5 times the amount of money they spent on it.Big Al 1992 said:
Do I watch the next couple of sequels or is it more of the same 70's craziness?
It was shot on location, on the Planet of the Apes. How did they even get there? Wait. Oh my god. OH MY GOD https://t.co/nQ7tlybWIA

Need a planet of the Horses. Whether it's use or the monkeys, horses are constantly getting enslaved.
The home media release of ‘KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES’ will include a version of the entire movie with the original footage of the actors in mo-cap suits.

Trying to help my Father watch the trilogy in the right order, my one criticism of Matt Reeve's APES trilogy continues to be:

The titles for 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' and 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' should be flipped. pic.twitter.com/g9VfDOAwMD
Between Rise, Dawn, War, and now #KingdomOfThePlanetOfTheApes, this series continues to be one of the very best franchise reboots out there.

As expected, there was no better director to take over than Wes Ball. Of course the wizards at Wētā had a big hand in this, but there’s… pic.twitter.com/HnVN5g6VOJ
Setting the story hundreds of years after War was a brilliant choice. It’s fascinating to see what’s become of Caesar’s impact on apes, but also ensures anyone can watch and enjoy this particular installment. I’m also a big fan of how intimate and character-first the events of… pic.twitter.com/tciObPn1IQ

I am a hardcore lifelong APES fan and I loved this film and the way it feels different from any of the other entries in the franchise.

Also this is an adventure epic, not an action film. It takes time with characters and concepts and is richer for it.
Last APES thought: while there are echoes of BATTLE in KINGDOM, and while the film has nods to the originals, this is the first new era APES movie where I felt less interested in how they were going to get to Charlton Heston and more interested in just the world itself.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is a strong continuation of the series. Takes a little while to find its footing, but builds into an captivating second act and a thrilling finale. Excited to see where it heads from here after an intriguing ending. pic.twitter.com/wuYWSMDeB0

KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES is a worthy successor to the throne. A bold leap into the future of this world that hooked me immediately.

It’s a genuinely exciting action adventure, perhaps larger in scope than the last films, but just as grounded in honest emotion. pic.twitter.com/Xq7SNNJ4yb
I adored #KingdomOfThePlanetOfTheApes. Capturing over 55 years of influence, the film is riveting, beautiful, and a perfect addition to the 'Apes' legacy. A lush adventure that demands to be seen on the biggest screen possible. Owen Teague is a worthy successor to carry it all. pic.twitter.com/SAdjt7Wti1

Takes a minute to get going, thoroughly introducing new characters & timeline, then never looks back. VFX are astonishing. Great performances.

#KingdomOfThePlanetOfTheApes is not only incredibly gorgeous but also a deep and magnificent return to this franchise.

The film manages to capture Caesar’s legacy with an engaging story and an amazing cast. Wes Ball was really the right guy to bring this franchise back. pic.twitter.com/vj6sx3WTnW
#KingdomOfThePlanetOfTheApes is a beautiful coming of age story framed around the idea of legacy and what happens to it when it's lost to time or subverted by the wicked. It doesn't surpass what Andy Serkis did with his trilogy, but Wes Ball’s approach proves that the franchise… pic.twitter.com/iz3qf01GK7
