Fobu-TV versus YouTube TV

I'm thinking of making the switch from YouTube TV to Fobu.

Thought is that I can watch Rangers, Stars, and Mavericks with FobuTV which I cannot from YouTube.

I am also paying for the 4k service so I can have as many streams as I want, but Fobu has up to 10 in the baseline. And my tvs aren't good enough to tell the difference in the picture even though they say they are 4k.

Pros and cons with both?

I mostly watch sports and Fubo works well especially with soccer options. The only downside is still no Turner Networks.

That's huge. No Turner versus Ballys.

Just do it during baseball season then switch back to you tube tv. Controls suck compared to youtubetv. But service is fine. I go back and forth each year. But I don't watch basketball. YouTube tv is so much better to me, but I gotta watch the Astros.

That's not a bad point...but there's tons of sports year round on TNT.

You can now add live sports on Turner networks as an add on to your Max account if you have one.

Additional $9.99/month.

This is my only downside to Fubo.

During March Madness, I sign up for a free trial of YTTV but that's about the only thing I really miss from the Turner stations.

YTTV doesn't have Space City Sports (formerly AT&T SN) so that was an automatic no-go for me.

If you use the Fubo app on Apple TV, you can watch multiview.

Here is a referral code for Fubo if anyone wants to try it. It gets you $30 off your first month.

I'm a huge soccer fan so they have a lot of the USNT matches.

Can you pause and rewind live tv?

I have Spectrum Digital and we can't pause live tv

Yes - Astros and Rockets local broadcasts

I was a former Suddenlink customer due to that being the only option in my neighborhood (trees block satellite) and it drove me nuts that I live in Houston and couldn't watch most of the Astros games.

So, when fiber internet became available, I made sure I picked the service that carried them.

Yes...with Fubo and YTTV

Fubo
Has Astros / Rockets
Has an insanely better Multiview platform. YTTV able has it but it is just not as good. Their multiview is prefixed so you cannot pick what you watch. Usually makes a difference if you want three football games and throw in a baseball game.

YTTV
Has the Turner networks. NBA, March Madness and early rounds of the Baseball playoffs (although you can still get those on Fubo with MLB Network in Spanish for thr Multiview mentioned above).
Has better streaming with limited service. For example in a deer blind YTTV will have a better chance of getting you a game.

We have had Hulu Live TV for a while now and really like it. All the major outlets for football, and TBS, etc. It's easy to find other sources online during Astros season, so don't miss Space City Sports.

Yes. With FUBO (on an AppleTV 4K at least) you can pick what you add and can watch between 2 and 4 in Multiview. You can change sound between the ones up easily and go back and forth between single view and Multiview. It is very slick.

Yeah, the Fubo app on Apple TV is far and away better than YouTube TV, but without turner it's a hard sell to the family. We're currently giving DirecTV Stream a go, probably the worst app, but has Bally Sports, Turner, and the rest of the sports lineup.

If you ever cancel Fubo, watch your credit card statement.....I have had two seperate instances where I canceled and continued to be charged.

I know you didn't ask, but DirecTV Stream has Bally's and Turner channels. We started with Fubo then switched to DTV Stream and are very happy with it.

Yeah. **** directv. They lost my business.

I just wanted to chime in and say don't get Hulu Live if you were going to consider it since it's a straight competitor to YTTV. It's an absolute mess and inefficient. We are going back to YTTV which we had for a few years.

For one, the customer experience doesn't work the same across different platforms so it's annoying, for example, if you have an AppleTV on one tv but another tv is just the native tv app. The dumbest damn thing of all is that you can't get to the Guide from the navigation menus. Getting to the Guide should be one click in.

Instead, you have to go into a show and then click down to get to the Guide. And then it lags like hell navigating from screen to screen and menu to menu.

It's "AI' sucks as well as it doesn't serve you up programming that should be front and center. Best example is that I have to search endlessly for A&M football games every f'ing Saturday whereas YTTV would serve it up first thing in the interface. Doesn't matter that I have Texas A&M tagged as "My Stuff" and/or if I'm recording it.

However, maybe Hulu's AI is so advanced that it is making A&M games hard to find because it knows we are going to lose and is trying to protect my health.

It just sucks.

Understood, I left directv a long time ago, but streaming is streaming and i the steam version of directv actually has the best channel lineup out of all of them, in my opinion

When I looked at them, the dvr was subpar. Has that changed?

No clue on that one, I don't use dvr

Overall, there isn't a silver billet in my opinion, you just have to pick the best scenario for the combo of device and channels that gets you the closest to what you want. All of them have eventually rendered cutting the cord pointless from a cost point of view.

Def don't want to switch if you have RedZone

I think it's based on the package you have, but we have unlimted cloud dvr storage.

Haven't even thought about DVR in several years outside of recording a football game here and there. That seems like a dying function.

Its necessity is directly proportional to tv shows that don't have their current seasons available to stream. Outside of live sporting events and maybe some random programming on esoteric channels it's pretty much pointless.

Could see having a few hours of DVR on hand but zero reason to have unlimited DVR IMO unless you are just a pack rat. I haven't found a single show I can't stream
Immediately or just buy the season(s) digitally.

Going forward I'm not sure what you would be storing outside of sporting events.

I keep getting pissed when YTTV raises their prices and have tried switching to some other services, but keep going back. We've tried FUBO, Sling, Hulu Live, Philo - but none have the sports options I want, plus channels my wife likes.
