Ketamine infusions outside an inpatient or surgery setting are pretty scary but they're popping up like crazy as a new psychotherapy adjunct. There's multiple start up companies trying to scale it up. I suspect most have no clue how to really manage it. Ketamine causes a lot of adverse cardiac and opioid like effects but can also have a dissociation type high. All if that plus other drugs and a hot tub are no good. Sad stuff to be so depressed to seek that kind of treatment.
It is very scary how Ketamine has gone so mainstream. It, like so many recreational drugs, have real medical applications. But with all the talk of using it for depression (which is a valid and demonstrated use), it has made it even more popular as a recreational drug. My daughter in college tells me stories (and well, I've seen most everything in the ER so it's not new but it is concerning how open it is with people) of people that use it and talk about oh when so and so goes in a K-hole, their friends just watch out extra for them - all the while not knowing that a K-hole is on the very edge of ODing.
On a lighter note, I looked this thread up because when I went home very late last night I turned on the TV to unwind and the Yemen episode was on. "I'm going to Yemen, can I stay with you when we get there" and delivered so unbelievably well. RIP Matthew Perry.
