With filming set for the fall, I would guess this is likely a late 2024 release. Tarantino has said he has a limited series he's written and wants to direct as well, so this won't be the last Tarantino anything ever, but man, I was not ready for this last theatrical effort so soon. I knew his tenth would be his last, but I figured we had another couple years before anything was even ready. That said, no matter what he says now, I just can't see him retiring theatrically for good...

What's the story behind him retiring? Has this been well known? Why would he walk away when he's still making pretty good films and he's not even that old?

He wants to go out on top/has a belief that directors lose touch the older they get. So he's been saying for a few years now that his tenth movie (which will be The Movie Critic) will be his last, likes that it's a nice, round number, etc. He's also started a family and lives with his wife and kid in Israel now (where his wife is from). Again, he'll probably still do the limited series he's been talking about after this, and then, after that, I just don't see how stays away. That said, as of now, he seems pretty adamant that he's not directing an 11th movie. We shall see...

This movie will tie in Rick Dalton and a few other QT characters. I feel like it'll be a career capper and a "finale" of sorts to his movie universe.

Just my thoughts but that'd be cool.

It's gonna end with an actor or director killing a bunch of movie critics who trashed his movie with a flamethrower.

Basically a revenge story for this:

Never saw Cobra Kai. But he's been nominated for an Emmy for Black Bird, starred in Richard Jewel, and co-starred in I, Tonya, BlacKkKlansman, and Cruella. Pretty nice career so far, and is due for a breakout role.

He should have stopped after his last and best movie.

Did you watch the original when you were a kid?

If so, then you'll love the first couple of seasons.

Yeah, watched all three growing up. I might give it a shot one of these days.

It does for Karate Kid fans what the Sequel Trilogy tried to do for the OT Star Wars fans. Except it does it well. Fantastically well.

I believe he's already chosen Adam Driver.

Also, unrelated, but Guadagnino wants Jacob Elordi for The Shards, the Bret Easton Ellis adaptation. Not really up this board's alley, but that show should end up being huge.

What?

You've got to put it on your watchlist, especially with the next season coming up. It's worth the watch. Lots of cheese, but a lot of fun...and plenty of great Karate Kid and 80's references. The new characters really grow on you as it goes along...especially Miguel and Stingray.

If you take it with a grain of salt, seasons 1 & 2 are a fun watch.

The nostalgia and the callbacks in season 1 are absolutely perfect. And the emotions they can invoke as well, make it a really good season.

It's ok, Billy Zabka is great in it and it makes you wonder why he hasnt been working more regularly.
