How did we make it this far without mentioning Back to the Future.

Ordinary People. Why is this is the first mother/son movie that popped into my head? Maybe because it made a huge impression on me when it was released in 1980 and won the Best Picture oscar. It's not a typical mother/son relationship due to tragedy in the family, a suicidal son, and the obvious fact that the mother played by Mary Tyler Moore does not really love her son. I do not recommend for anyone looking for happy mom and son movie.

Boyhood. I was so surprised at the impression this movie left on me. The mother/son dynamic was interesting and true to life.

Tell your wife that if she's already worrying about what kind of a mom she'll be or what her relationship with her son will be like, she's going to be just fine.

Thanks everyone. I know it'll be fine and I've shared some of my experience or memories about my mom, and I think that put her mind at ease. But it had me thinking about how there doesn't seem to be as much media highlighting that mother/son relationship. I may just be missing it.

She also grew up with one sister and all female cousins, so it's just kind of unknown to her. "What do I do with this crazy little guy if we don't like any of the same things?" But I'm sure it'll be fine and they'll be close.

Some guys will recommend telling her to "just calm down".

Try that and report back.
