What do you think of the third book of 1st law? I just finished it a few weeks ago for the first time.

I really don't know what to think. I feel like it has been kind of slow. My kindle tells me I am 40% of the way through and I feel like there's a lot of stuff that still needs to happen.
What about you?

Ok just finished up. I hated it so much. I have never hated a character more than I hate BayazDefinitely Not A Cop said:RoofingAg said:

I loved it and hated it at the same time, if that makes any sense. Don't want to say too much without spoiling the ending.

Do the following books give us any sort of closure? This was my first time reading grimdark and it sure lives up to the name.
I plan on reading the rest of the books but I think I am going to cleanse my pallet before starting on them. Planning on reading Between Two Fires before continuing with my Abercrombie journey.

Matt Dinniman's Dungeon Crawler Carl series.
Kind of zany urban fantasy with the premise that Earth is just a seeded planet for a global Hunger Games style tv show televised across multiple galaxies and the main protagonist tells the story like living an RPG. Science basis to it all but the game is set up fantasy-style.
All the books are free to read with Kindle Unlimited

It's not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil.
He'll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that's just on the first day. He's going to need courage, he's going to need wit, and he's going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he's going to need pants.

So I got hooked on these through Audible. The production is great and the books are generally hilarious. I devoured them. I know next to nothing about RPGs, but these have been a delightful change from some of the dense Sanderson stuff (which I also love).
Of course, Audible saw me eating these up and suggested the "He Who Fights Monsters" series by Travis Deverell. I'll be damned if I'm not eating these up as well. I don't know if I just really dig LitRPGs or what, but I have already burned through like 3 of these (10 book series).
It's irreverent like Dungeon Crawler Carl, but not nearly as silly and flirts more with serious as the books go on. Definitely more fantasy-adventure than science fiction. Honestly, I'm surprised how much I like it. Plus there are 10 books in the hopper, and each one is like 50 hours of audible time, so it's good use of a credit. Will it change your life? No. Will it make you think deeply? Probably not. But it entertains me on the commute, so it checks a box.
Anyway, give it a shot if you like LitRPGs. Here's the blurb for Book 1 from Amazon:Quote:

If you found enjoyment in Storm Front and Fool Moon... brotha... you have another thing coming. It's not even possible to explain to you how epic this series gets. Let's just say, the characters may be the best part of the Dresden files. And that's a series with an incredibly epic world that adapts just about every fantasy trope you have ever read about in such a unique way, has amazing story archs. and a fantastic magic system.
With a book series where the characters are the best part (both allies and enemies), you have only met a couple, and they are barely even decent characters, yet. Only about 25-30 more characters to meet.
Since you mention Powder Mage, Brian McClellan is giving away a novella in the series today for his birthday: https://www.brianmcclellan.com/ebook-store/themadlancers13B said:
Definitely enjoying Dresden. Fourth Wing is not bad. Found out there is a continuation trilogy (Gods of Blood and Powder) after the Powder Mage Trilogy. Really enjoying it, still have the 3rd book to read.
I believe it is primarily on Audible but it's Literature based on Role Playing Games.Philo B 93 said:
What is LitRPG? I googled it, but maybe someone here can explain it to me clearer.

I thought every one of the second era books is better than the one before. I don't think any of them are better than the original trilogy.
I would recommend reading secret history between three and four.
