I disagree on Kang but am totally onboard with your thoughts on Cassie. Although I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. It may have just been the lame dialogue.

My teenager thought it was ok.
My 8-year old loved it. He knew all about it beforehand.
I thought it was pretty good. Didn't care much for the floating head character. Rudd was good. Murray doesn't feel like Marvel. Thought Michael Douglass was perfect for his role.

Certainly felt a bit like Star Wars....

Thoughts after seeing it tonight:

Not sure what the doom and gloom of Marvel's demise is about, was a fun movie, had some dumb stuff, had some funny stuff, got us headed towards the next Avengers movie.

Strengths
Majors' performance. Really interesting face, really fantastic job of playing a being who is both obsessed and disinterested in what's going on around him. When he went nuts and start vaping anyone, that's what I like to see, the villain who is gonna be the monster you call him.

Michael Doulgas. Felt like he won the movie outside of Majors. Funny, still egotistical. Definitely felt like Kang "recognized him" from some previous encounter when he showed up with the ants. Definite look of recognition.

Evolving Ant-Man: You got away with the light-hearted, humor-driven everything works out nice at the end in the first 2 of the series, and that was the vibe for the first half of this one until Pfeiffer finally reveals what Kang is - which I missed about 5 minutes of thanks to kids having to use the bathroom. Then it got 85% serious, but that's good for me, we have to take the next step up into where this is headed. Peyton Reed demanded to have a big time movie and that's what he got.

The supporting characters: I liked them. The ooze guy, the telepath, having Bill Murray and Michael Douglas in a scene together was lovely. I like having people outside the main cast who have an arc to go through.

Weaknesses
While I found most of MODOK's lines funny, the look was too cringey to get past. You should never have something that disconcerting on the screen. His death scene was hilarious though.

Cassie: Someone said she looked like Miley Cyrus. I thought she was Miley Cyrus until I read that. Her character was a total waste. I realize they needed a way to get to the QR, but figure out something else. When she gave her speech to the rest of the QR, it should have been nothing but people saying Who da fuq is that?

So much QR: About 10 minutes in, I just told myself I was going to pretend like they were on an alien planet. That made it all a lot more easier to accept.

Overall: Way better than Thor 4, still haven't see Wakanda Forever. Great to see Owen Wilson and Loki in the end credits, although I wish they would have been on jet skis.

Saw it earlier today. I thought it was great! This phase is in good hands with Jonathan Majors being the big baddie. I came home and immediately put on the last episode of Loki. I had a question: When "He who remains" tells Loki that he can no longer see what happens, can that be the same exact point Kang actually "dies" in AntMan? Not sure how the timeline works.

Strengths

Kang was great! Loved how he was written and portrayed. I need to go back and watch the last episode of Loki but definitely seemed like the Kang in that one was more…giddy? This one definitely had a darker tone and I think the actor they went with is going to be awesome to watch with this. Speaking of which….

1st post credits scene…I know EXTREMELY little from the comics. But what I have done is watch plenty of those breakdown videos on YouTube. Correct me if I'm wrong but pretty sure I remember there being an epic coming together of all the Kangs from different universes and that being a major development in the comics.

2nd post credits scene…Oh man I can't wait for S2 of Loki!!!!

Paul Rudd was great as usual as were all the hero supporting actors (I'll get to Cassie in a sec) and I enjoyed the aliens as well. Hell even Bill Murray passed and I thought seeing him in this movie was going to be annoying.

The story definitely seems to be heading in a direction finally….having Kang appear in two story plots now definitely helps with feeling the MCU is building towards something again.

Weaknesses

Ok….MODOK…..

I feel like they made him look like crap on purpose. This is a character that's a giant head with guns that floats….in a story where in the original there's a pet giant ant being fed under the table and in the sequel there's a giant ant playing the drums in a post credits scene……these films are sillier than others…..

So I truly felt that it was intentional because it's such a crazy idea to begin with….that being said they should've saved that for the end revealing his face cause I can see how it'd be distracting to many….on top of that they SHOULD NOT have redeemed him.

This guy was a bad dude….would've been much more satisfying to have Cassie kill him seeing is they have a history….speaking of which…..

Cassie was lame. But it's not the actresses fault she just wasn't written well at all. Came across as just annoying and I agree with tbose complaining about her speech….it really should've been Fiefer's character as many already knew her and she would've been someone who could actually rally the troops and redeem her character from releasing Kang onto the Quantum Relm.

But overall I enjoyed it and unlike most of the films in Phase 4 I'd definitely watch this one again.

Not really a spoiler, but it might be fun if down the line in the Avengers' movies, they've got to figure out which Kang to trust - assuming there is one to trust. Both this one and the one in Loki both made it appear they were there to stop what was coming; not sure if they are the same guy.

When I see a blurb on this Antman deal, I think of the Hopi indian traditions involving sky people with heads resembling ants. As an entomologist I find this interesting.
Our thoughts on the current controlled EXTRATERRESTRIAL reality disclosure process and related US GOV cover-up? Once the uneasy, contagious giggling subsides, how will our civilization and the mislead sheep adapt to this publicly known reality? Are the good Shepherds withholding the truth in our best interest? Yeah, no where in all the multiverse is this even close to a 48% on Rotten Tomatoes. In fact, I thought it was actually pretty decent, if not legitimately good at times. I doubt I ever watch it again, but at no time did I ever think, "I would have done that differently." I don't know that I would have made *this* the plot of the third Ant-Man movie, but given what we got, I have next to no complaints. If anything, it's better than most of Phase 4, better than three of the four Thor movies (even Love and Thunder, which I found so much more uninteresting than this), and better than The Incredible Hulk, Captain Marvel, and Eternals, along with probably a few others.

Oh and forgot to mention, MODOK was absolutely ridiculous, and not in a good way. Super cringe. Got a laugh when he first showed his face, and not the kind of laugh they wanted.

As someone who knew absolutely nothing about MODOK prior to this, I found him to be pretty damn funny. Sure, he was ridiculous, so much so that he unintentionally undercut Kang's sinister-ness at times (why would someone as serious as Kang make him look so dumb?), but it was worth it for the laughs, IMO. That, and as Porkchop said, the ridiculousness seemed to be the point, while I also loved that they made him Darren ("Darren?"), and brought that character back full circle. I guess I just don't get how there could have been a better version of the character, seeing as he's so inherently stupid to begin with. And all things considered, it was a brand of stupid I enjoyed.

Yeah...that was not good.

Best way I can describe it is it felt like an amateur screenwriter wanted to emulate the irreverence of Guardians of the Galaxy and failed badly at it.

There's minimal stakes and I really never cared about anything that was happening onscreen. Just an orgy of random, wacky CGI creatures and fight scenes.

How can you say there were no stakes? It was literally life or death at every turn, and the Scott/Cassie of it all was about as personal as stakes get. To say nothing of trying to keep Kang from escaping and wreaking havoc again on multiple timelines.

Also I like how there was absolutely zero explanation given for how anyone in the Quantum Realm even exists. So Kang was there alone, but then what? He says he built his empire, but out of what? Thin air?

Janet basically said that Kang's suit was the key to his tech/powers. When they fixed his multiverse engine core, it instantly allowed his suit to come back online, so to speak, basically revitalizing his tech/powers. Then, when she broke the core again/sent it even deeper into the quantum realm, he lost his ability to leave, but not his ability to still use his suit/create.

As for the other "humans," I got the impression that their ancestors were banished there (same as Kang, just way earlier). As in, that level of the quantum realm was the perfect banishment zone to send all kinds of life forms from all kinds of timelines (and banished there by anyone with the technological know-how, not just Kang variants). Also, other lifeforms likely evolved there naturally, no different than life evolved on earth. Regardless, none of that bugged me at all.

And not gonna lie, Kang did absolutely nothing for me. It's nothing against the actor per se, but there's just not much there. He kind of just screams at people and shoots blue energy and has force powers. But other than that, we know absolutely nothing about him, and frankly I don't care to.

If this is the new big bad that's supposed to be the next Thanos...eesh.

All that said, I'm going to have to agree with you about Kang. Jonathan Majors is giving an incredible performance, but I found Thanos to be so much more intimidating, and more importantly, his goal was infinitely (no pun intended) more clear/simple; collect all six stones, then eliminate half the universe. He had a philosophical reason that was easy to understand, and he was imposing as hell every time he was on screen. But after two Kang appearances now, I still don't quite get what he's about or is trying to do, due to the very nature of him not being one but hundreds of variants, each with different motivations. It's already exhausting having to think about keeping track of all the different personalities/iterations, how they'll interact with who's left of the MCU, etc, and I'm just not really interested in any of that at all. Admittedly, of the two post-credit scenes, the Loki season two tease was a nice treat, but only because it was fun to see Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson back together, not so much because of yet another Kang variant.

I would say it's definitely in my bottom 5 MCU movies. Not particularly excited for the next phase to be very honest.

Oh and sidenote, a group of 3-4 people in my row walked out about 45 minutes in. I don't think I've ever seen that in a major blockbuster, much less a Marvel movie. (And in IMAX no less.) And can't really blame them to be honest. I made it about another 15 minutes after they left before I was bored and just waiting for to it to end.

With maybe 20 minutes left, two different couples in our showing got up and left as well, within a couple minutes of each other. I've never seen people give up so late into a movie. One person clapped at the end, but this was definitely the tamest Marvel audience I've seen a movie with at the Chinese Theater, where people usually go apesh*t for anything and everything MCU.

I don't know, maybe they'll hook me down the line with Kang, but overall I think a big part of my indifference is that I just don't care about the MCU like I used to, so maybe I'm not as harsh on entrees like this, or as intrigued by what's to come? Blockbuster-wise, I'm WAY more interested in things like Oppenheimer, Dune: Part Two, The Batman: Part II, James Gunn's Superman: Legacy, etc. Heck, looking ahead at, say, summer 2024, I'm even more interested in something like the Twister sequel than Captain America: World Order or Thunderbolts. I'm not saying Marvel can't win me back, but man, other than GOTG3, it's looking bleak on the horizon, MCU-wise.

Because they talked about this as an "Avengers-level" movie for months before release, and it just didn't feel that way in the least. Cassie being in danger was the only stakes that mattered to me at all.

They kept talking about the havoc Kang could wreak if he got out, but...that's all it is. A lot of talk. We've never really seen why we need to actually fear this guy. It's almost like we just have to take his own word for how evil he is.

Plus, they've not really done any legwork to make us care about any other multiverse other than the main one we've seen throughout the MCU. (Except for a bit in Loki I suppose. And maybe MoM.)

But even then, they're putting a lot of trust in everyone having seen Loki.

Side note, little strange you felt the need to try to counter my opinion point by point, but hey. Agree to disagree I suppose.

I didn't hate this movie, but it was disappointing in the Marvel scheme of things. My biggest complaint is the middle 20-minute exposition dump of Janet and Kang. All of that in the middle of the movie was just too much for what was a comedic version of a Star Wars Cantina Scene (which is my favorite part of the movie).

I actually loved MODOK. His last words were in line with what I loved about that first Ant-Man. I don't know how unbiased I can be with Corey Stoll because he is one of my favorite actors.

One of the lows was Kang being described as the big bad of this phase, but then losing in his first 2 appearances. The first appearance makes sense in the context of the story of Loki. This one though, did I miss something about this being a lesser Kang? If they could have mentioned this was a Kang that wasn't as strong as the others, I would feel more threatened. I guess the first credit scene implies that? There was a point where I was watching Scott Land some punches where I thought, "oh Creed should kick the **** out of this dude."

Overall, didn't feel like it was a waste of time, but didn't leave the best taste in my mouth. I think the MCU spreading out projects is the smart move right now. Make each release feel special and not homework.

And this is coming from a guy who was totally onboard with the whole multiverse angle after watching MoM. I felt like that was a cool thing that would be the main crux for the MCU going forward. (Which does seem to be the case.)

But THIS particular movie just didn't work for me. The low stakes combined with an unimpressive Kang (which we do seem to agree on) don't make me very hopeful, but I do hope the next phase turns it around for me.

Honestly for me Cassie being in danger was never even a real threat. This color-by-numbers script didn't have me worried for a second that she would die, get lost in some other dimension, or perhaps kidnapped by Kang at the end of the movie. And because of that lack of a real threat, about midway through the movie I started hoping beyond hope that maybe they'd pull a surprise out of left field and kill one of the main characters...Hank or Janet maybe.

Just something to make Kang truly threatening. Because as much as I thought Majors did a great job and his performance showed potential to be threatening, at the end of the day he was destroyed by.....wait for it....ants. Ta-dum!

The ants didn't destroy him, they temporarily disabled him.

And what did Thanos do in his early appearances to show what a threat he would become? Sit in a chair? Pick up a glove? His first 2 plans also failed utterly - obtaining the tessaract from Loki via conquering Earth and retrieving the power stone from Ronin in GOTG.

There was at least the looming threat since he was behind the attack in the first Avengers.

But the main thing is, he was never a main villain until Infinity War, and that's what took him to true all-time villain status. This movie felt like if Thanos was used as the villain in a movie before we got his full story in Infinity War.
TajMaballer
How long do you want to ignore this user?

I didn't mind the Ants taking him down. That was cool with me and I do love Michael Douglas just coming in saying the word Ants. It was the fist fight at the end that got me a little underwhelmed with how Kang went out in this movie. Thanos had smaller cameos on his first 3 appearances than what we've seen with Kang. There was more mystery with what can Thanos do and the first time we see him actually fight, he knocks out The Hulk. We've seen Kang in two iterations and while he was good, I felt more threatened by his Loki appearance than this one.

I also felt that Janet should have been the one to help Scott out with how much she got done and her personal history with Kang. Hope coming in at the end didn't feel earned.

Also, big bummer for me was no Luis.

One by one you saw how powerful the infinity stones were and there was a handful of mentions that Thanos was looking for them. Ronin in the original GotG was a handful and was terrified of Thanos himself. When we first see Thanos fight, he hurts the hulk with the very first punch.

So? They still built him up as an intimidating, powerful supervillain who is far ahead of all the other villains in the MCU, and when he finally appears in Infinity War, he actually backs that up by beating the **** out of Hulk right out of the gate. (And killing Loki.)

And throughout the movie, he holds his own against most of the Avengers almost single-handedly, to the point there he didn't even need the stones to seem like a universal threat.

Man, I kinda feel like watching that movie now. What a damn good movie. Sometimes I wonder if that wasn't actually the better movie between that and Endgame.

Look, marvel is never going to be as good again as endgame. Just like star wars will never be as good as the OT. These are just other stories to full in the margins. It just feels like you're comparing the length and breadth of Thanos against 5 minutes of Kang from Loki and maybe 20 minutes of Kang from Antman 3. I'm not even sure the 2 guys we have seen are even the bad guys, both have suggested they are exiles of their kind. I guess my point is that I'm going to reserve judgement until I see how the whole story plays out.

I actually did wonder if he would kill Cassie in that one scene and he would basically bribe Scott with giving him a variant. I am not sure how much I bought the idea it would happen but it was in the back of my head a couple of times because they did edit the trailer to imply Kang tempting him with more time with Cassie.
