Marathon on HLN. Say what you will about the politics, but I always thought it was a good show.

The Two Cathedrals is up there with best episode of a TV drama ever IMO.

It's one of the best dramas ever produced for television.

Does it hold up if I watch it today? Was a bit too young to watch it when it aired.

Absolutely….. they do a great job of representing both points of views.

It's definitely left leaning, but I think they do a pretty solid job in not trying to make the right/republicans out to be the villains at every turn like they easily could have. Some great ancillary characters like Ainsley Hayes and Joe Quincy and Arnold Vinick were republicans.

America's destiny is not of our own choosing. We did not seek nor did we provoke an assault on our freedom and our way of life. We did not expect nor did we invite a confrontation with evil. Yet the true measure of a people's strength is how they rise to master that moment when it does arrive.

Some of it will be dated enough to make you grown, but it will mostly hold up as a great show of great characters embodying the potential of what we wish American democracy could be.
Thanks and gig'em

One of my favorites. You can watch it on HBO max.

I am republican and the politics doesn't bother me.

Sorkin has had several good series.

Sports night (I think)

Newsroom is good also.

Martin Sheen would be a Republican President with his policies today

I'm pretty sure this is the show that I have watched the most times start to finish. It's a great show to have on in the background while doing other stuff too since it's so dialogue heavy. It's basically like listening to a podcast . . . which reminds me of a story I'll always remember:

When the show was originally on, it also played live on the radio when a new episode came out (can't remember which station). I was in the car with my parents when the episode aired involving the navy supply ship caught in the hurricane (where the president speaks to the crew member). We had just got back home and it was a torrential downpour outside. There was probably about 20 min left in the episode and we stayed in the car to listen on the radio because it was such a cool effect just listening while it's really storming outside.

One of my favorites. It's the reason why I chose to major in poli sci. Two Cathedrals is an incredible episode.

Allison Janney should have been made the permanent actual Press Secretary like 3 terms ago.

You can definitely tell when Sorkin left the show. 1-4 is far superior to 5-7, but still enjoyable.

The character development over the series is the best of any show I've even seen.

"The American President" is even more left-leaning, but it's still one of my favorite movies.

This was always my thought on the show. It had to be presented from SOME point of view or else it wouldn't be worth watching. A middle-of-the-road show would be boring and not able to tell a complete story.

I watched a few of the early episodes when it first came on, and I found the tone preachy. My politics were fairly conservative, but it wasn't just that. I watched "Murphy Brown" and found it quite funny (at least the first few years)

I rediscovered the show in re-runs and found the later episodes to be less preachy in tone, even if from a left-leaning view. That probably had to do with the departure of Aaron Sorkin. And don't expect a show staring Martin Sheen to not be left-leaning.

I thought it was a very realistic show about life in the White House, and I think it is one of the best depictions of a fictional presidency.

Interestingly enough, I thought seasons 6-7 were more preachy than 1-4. Maybe it's because the writing wasn't as subtle, but what I appreciated about Sorkin is that he did actually attempt to give some right leaning perspective (unlike the Newsroom which I just could stomach). In particular, there was a scene with Ainsley Hayes (gorgeous) but I digress, and she was talking about gun control and how the left simply doesn't like guns, but they don't like the people who like guns. Quote ended with "you don't like the people." That was bold.

The "walk and talk" is legendary.

90% of my conversations with my employees happen as we're briskly walking 1/4 of a mile from one meeting to another.

I'm not sure if that's bc Sorkin groomed me.

Do you need to agree with the 'politics' of a show or movie to enjoy it? I dont get that

It's never enjoyable when politics feels forced but good writing will always be entertaining.

Since y'all broached I'm going to go there.

The reason for this is because the country has only ever moved leftward. JFK would be a hard core Republican now. Bill Clinton would be a Republican in 2022. Go look at videos of his speeches.

The show was merely reflecting the sign of the times. We were much more balanced then. You make that show now and it would be CRT and woke bull**** like you couldn't believe.

Yeah, things in 2000 (this show's heyday) were just suuuuper balanced.

(Which is a weird thing for you to comment on as you've already said you never watched the damn show).

I don't need to have seen a show on politics to know what it was reflecting based on when it aired...especially after numerous posters already confirmed exactly what anyone would have expected.

It's common sense.

In a show called "The West Wing", there is no such thing as forcing politics.

You do need to have seen the show to comment on what it showed. (If you'd actually watched it, you'd know it's not a "show on politics".)

F16 is a few down, though you already know how to find that.

F16 is the new Godwin.

Apply some thought to the time period and knowledge of politics and it's evolution in this country.

But maybe you are simply too young and are ignorant of reality?

Let's switch gears…

This show has some of the greatest cold opens. What is your favorite?

I'll start. The one where Sam meets Ansley Hayes and gets roasted on live TV.

Sam: " I hope no one's watching "
Josh: " Hey everyone….. Sam getting beat up by a girl!"

Those are two of the best. A couple more:

"Let Bartlett be Bartlett"-

"Leadership Breakast"-

And a little more serious , but "17 People " -
