Has anyone read the Expeditionary Force series by Craig Alanson? I just had a friend recommend it to me, saying it is one of only 4 series he would ever do so for. Since he also told me about Red Rising, and agrees with me on the Murderbot series, I tend to think it would be good, but would like to know if the board has an opinion.
Thanks.
I was coming on here to recommend the Expeditionary Force series. Great comedic sci-fi! Skippy is one of my favorite all-time humorous characters.
I highly suggest these from Audible. R.C. Bray is excellent. They are good light-hearted Sci-Fi fun.

My wife and I have listened to them all and bummed that the last one will come out at the end of the year.

Yes! Forgot to recommend the audio books. R.C. Bray is awesome!
So my buddy that recommended the series said the same thing about the Audible books. He really enjoyed them.

Thanks to all of you for the feedback. I'm 14% into book 1 and enjoying it so far.

I'm in the same boat. Loved the Martian but Project Hail Mary was one of the few books ever I stopped reading before finishing.

It'd be interesting to know where you stopped. Admittedly it was a little slow at parts in the first third or so, but got really good after. Loved the last bit too.

Downloaded and read Project Hail Mary on a trip I just took. I thought it was very entertaining.

If you liked The Martian, I have to think you would like this. Same kind of esoterica when it comes to the science part.

Just came to thank those who made the recommendation for the Murderbot series, and to echo it! Light/fast and fun reads.

I'm gonna have to give Dresden Files a chance, and if it's that good RIP my Audible budget for the year. How would you compare the Expanse novels to the TV show? I just couldn't get into the TV show, but if the book is more engaging I'll definitely have to give it a look.

James Marsters (Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) reads the audiobooks and does an amazing job in them. For me, he is the voice of Harry Dresden. I've listened through the whole series twice now.
It does take him a couple books to get it going, because it was his first series to narrate. After that, he is absolutely fantastic. His reading at the end of Changes... just heartbreaking.
Changes was excellent and tough.
Somehow I got Ghost Story and it was read by someone else.

I like most of the stuff recommended on this thread. Hitchhikers, Dune, Foundation, Left Hand of Darkness, Hyperion, House of Suns are all awesome.

Solaris by Stanislaw Lem. I haven't seen it mentioned. It's terrific book.

Silo trilogy is another one I didn't see brought up. They're fun reads. The Apple TV series is really good too.

If you're in to those, Larry Niven with Ringworld and all the Known Space stuff is fun.

Marsters was busy when Ghost Story came out, so someone else narrated it. However, because the fans love Marsters, he went back later and recorded his version. You should be able to find that somewhere.
