Meh...

Unless they get everyone involved in making the original back, it will probably be as forgettable as the second one.

Taylor Sheridan has had some fantastic movie screenplays between Sicario, Wind River, and Hell or High Water. I would rather get a good original script, and then work on making something else great with a new team looking to make a great movie. This just has the feeling of a studio driven cash grab.

Now, if the story was Taylor Sheridan mentioning in an interview how he had been working on a follow-up as a passion project because he had a great story in his head he couldn't help but write out as a screenplay, then I would be a little more hopeful.

kind of a funny story about how i found out Sicario 3 was likely happening. . my brother and i were big fans of both of these movies. just about anything based on the cartels really.

a couple of years ago my brother tagged me in the comments of an instagram post that was talking about the potential of the third film. something along the lines of

" @trespuertas It's happening!"

anyway. about a year and and half later there was a new like on his comment to me. It was Benicio Del Toros official account. i kind of feel like that was his wink and nod to us super fans

"GL" meaning a greenlight.

What great timing. Was just thinking about bumping this thread lamenting about how we don't have it yet. Binged the first two earlier today as I am housebound currently. Still think they are crazy underrated.

Loved the first one but don't remember much of the second. From memory it seems like it was kind of garbage.

Anyone else have a take?

Not trying to dog on it but the second one didn't seem to capture the magic of the first if I recall correctly.

All that being said. Would absolutely love for the third to come in and kick ass.

you should rewatch it. offered good insight into the political nature of the cartels.

to recap, they introduced the human smuggling/terrorist angle and used the CIA/black ops guys to instigate a war between cartels to obfuscate and try to disrupt their terrorism north of the border. Then the grooming of young sicario's, which is pretty much where they left it.

So, unfortunately, I heard directly from the horse's mouth this weekend that this isn't 100% true.

Or, rather, Brolin did indeed say it's happening, but I was told it's "been happening" for three years and no closer now than at any other time... but also no further away. There are issues with the script that are actively being worked on. Apparently Brolin popped off, trying to put pressure on everyone involved to get it done.

Will let you guys know when/if I hear more...

So, the below tweets aren't entirely true.

Yes, Sheridan wore *a* draft for a third Sicario movie. But it apparently still had issues, and he didn't have time to do additional drafts. So Christopher McQuarrie was then brought on to rewrite Sheridan's draft... and, surprisingly, he didn't quite get it to where it needed to be either. Both of those nuggets are exclusive info, but I feel comfortable setting the record straight, now that this information is partially out there.

As of now, a third prominent writer, whom I don't feel comfortable naming yet, is rewriting Sheridan and McQuarrie's work... and good news is, the powers that be are finally happy with the direction it's heading. There's still work to do, though. Regardless, the three writers explains the three-year odyssey I mentioned in August in my post above. Fingers crossed that the third writer is able to bring it home...

It is indeed. And I didn't have to hold that Steven Knight secret for long - he was the third screenwriter I was referring to, whose script everyone finally loves.

Aiming for a 2028 release.

Hoping it's worth the wait
First one is one of my favorite movies
2nd one wasn't bad at all but just wasn't as good as the 1st
imo
I know a lot of people didn't like the 2nd one at all but with how it ended…it definitely seemed like a 3rd one was gonna happen at some point
Hopefully they end it with a bang!

First one is an all-timer. Second one is definitely forgettable. Never had a desire to see it a second time. It was entertaining enough but you can definitely tell there is a step down in overall quality and execution.

Has anybody seen anything by the director, Padraic Mckinley? I don't recognize his work I see listed on IMDB. A huge part of what made the first so badass was Villeneuve's direction.
