In the end, TNG was a story about solving problems via efficient committee meetings via inclusive and/but capable bureaucrats.

Good to see SNW going in the same direction.
Yeah the millenial dinner party and committee approach has never been used in real military commands to my knowledge, probably for good reason

Watched the first two episodes since people seem to be enjoying it. First episode was a little heavy handed but i really liked the second one, but i have a question.

What exactly did spock do? he was radiating heat somehow?
That was a little unclear to me too. Seemed like a bit of a hand wave. But it was a good episode overall.

This is the first good Star Trek series since kurtzman took over. I won't watch discovery. It's awful. My wife and I have forced ourselves to make it through Picard. But season 2 was awful and cringy. The acting and writing has been terrible. SNW is actually good. I had extremely low expectations after the other series, so to say I'm pleasantly surprised is an understatement. Let's hope it continues in the direction of the first three episodes.

So this takes place with Kirk being a rookie in the fleet? This is similar time period to JJ Abrams reboot then?

Spock set the shuttlecraft's shield to radiate heat at maximum intensity

Just started watching the show and I thoroughly have enjoyed it. It reminds me of TNG in its format.

A little underwhelmed by the title soundtrack. The two main shows had iconic theme songs, I really wanted this one to have one too.

Have the Illyrians been mentioned in other shows? I don't think so.

The stories have been entertaining, and the characters are already developing and becoming interesting. The cast is likable.

They just need a new transporter operator. That dopey guy has struggled every episode so far.

Maybe he gets demoted next year and Hemmer brings in a crack transporter Lt. I.e Scotty

Ummm, he beamed Kiley DNA into Spock's eye during a scan. I think he knows his business

I'm kinda surprised how much I like this series. I think it's gotten better with each episode.

I agree, I was really into the last episode. It really had a TNG feel to it.

i like it too, quite a bit

the only things that get to me is that it seems like there is a subtle attempt to make the captain look like a bumbling fool.

'oh no' 'what do i do?' 'what do you think, random 'woke roster' filler?' 'ok, let's do that'

that's not how military leadership works.

Nichelle Nichols was just more beautiful, elegant and badass than her new young self.

the original pike was not an 'oh no what do i do' kind of guy.

and i really doubt it would pass muster on any vessel in any navy to get so informal with too many crew while having a cook-in dinner in the captain's quarters.

that felt like a tech company more than a military gathering on a vessel.

all that is minor though, i am enjoying it....

But it follows the TNG series where Picard often met with senior staff to discuss options.

And in "The Menagerie" Pike was openly second guessing himself at the beginning.

I am really enjoying this series. Liking it better and better every episode.

true - and that is always valuable

even kirk often had such meetings. where it stood out to me was in the middle of a battle.

again, minor. good show.

Spock Amok - I think Trek fans will either love this show, or hate it I loved it! perfect next episode following the seriousness of the fourth episode.
Great to hear the fight theme at the beginning.
I'm old and don't know how to do the spoiler thing so I won't say anything more.

Is it my imagination, or has there been an increase of ads with the last two episodes?

ETA: I forgot to mention, the green tunic!

You ever wonder if the transporter actually kills the person and makes an exact copy at the destination?

Just me? Ok.

Well, sometimes the transporter screws up and fails to kill the original. Then he steals the Defiant and joins the Maquis.

The transporter is a pretty philosophical device really. If human body mind and soul are made up of matter, or contained within the region of the beam, then a transport is killing and recreating all 3 out of new destination atoms. And creating a new universe or two each time.

As the late Gene Roddenberry explained, he invented the transporter because he couldn't figure out how to land the damn ship each episode

Yes, a budget mechanism for sure. But really blows your mind if you really understand the basic theories behind physics and religion and think about the implications.

I am enjoying it, the first three episodes were great. Love Anson Mount, makes a great empathetic captain and Ethan Peck is doing a great spock. They were the highlights of Discovery.

him reading the names of the people he will someday save as a mantra and resolve was brilliant

Eps 3 and 4 were both excellant. Love that they are setting up the Gorn as the antagonist. Perfect choice and really felt the menace. Frankly they seem scarier to me in that eps then most Klingon eps in Discovery. Spock Amock really fun eps and help fletched out the characters more. Finally, these actors are really good..

Its pretty good. Didnt think ep 6 made much sense though.

But it is hilarious the **** they put on all the main characters' heads. Spock is carrying a freaking live skunk. Pike a crusty mop. The ugly security girl some kind of slow motion scalping tightening torture device. The uhura girl no hair. The helmsman chick has the 'i literally cant imagine being more butch' trim. It goes on. Lol, its so bad its distracting.

I get what they were trying to do. Tie up a loose ends with the daughter. But, although I didn't hate it, it definitely is the weakest of the episodes.

Episode nine was another good one. And a bit surprising. Season finale comes out Thursday.

Also, Nurse Chapel is fine af.

I love what they are doing here. They have kept the Gorn's in the background. It is a threat.. you are seeing bits and pieces but not a direct confrontation. So far Enterprise has lost over 24 crewmen to the Gorn .. 3 this eps and about 21 a few eps ago. We know a direct fight is coming. Great story telling. Note: Wow the Gorn Kirk fought in the OST must have been an old dying Gorn on his death bed cause these Gorn move/act like hybrid reptile Predators/Alien.

Also, first red shirt to die that I actually didn't see dying .. kept thinking the cold air would kill the Gorn eggs in his body.
