I'm not even interested in untangling the intricacies of what happened. They show's run came down to:

Humans make sentient robots.
Humans mistreat those robots.
Robots revolt.
Robots take over the world causing extinction of the human race.
Remaining robots decide they don't like earth either and retreat to a virtual world of their own making.

It's a perfectly acceptable dystopian science fiction plot. They spent a ton of money on it and made it look pretty good. The details didn't always make sense, but that's ok. Time for the next idea.

This actually brings up a very interesting point and could make for a really intriguing season 5.

So the hosts didn't seem to like the real world and would eventually snap.

So what makes the Sublime different? That they have infinite lives and can basically do whatever they want whenever they want without repercussions for the rest of time? How do you create order out of something like that?

I would actually think contemplating what "eternity" is like for season 5 could be a very interesting and meta concept on brand with where this show has taken us in the past.

Well this show went off the rails, but the biggest issue for me is that there were no humans in season 4, and we never saw earth. Either that or someone tore a hole in reality into another actual dimension at the fake world hoover dam. So really none of it makes sense at that point.

Just binged the entire season this weekend. Didn't hate it like most seem to judging by the last few pages (haven't read any of the rest of the thread). I imagine binging may have helped keep things (somewhat) more clear in my mind about what was going on though. I could have used more info about some of the things others have mentioned, but that's happened every season with this show.

Would definitely watch a season 5 and hope we get it.

Most people were really positive on the first 5 or 6 episodes. Seemed like the season peaked around episode 4 before falling apart at the end.

It's crazy how basically the exact same thing could be said of last season. It's no coincidence that these last two seasons were also eight episodes each, as opposed to ten episodes each the first two seasons. Both seasons three and four desperately needed more time/episodes to tell their stories, especially in their second halves. The show's problems run far deeper than that, of course, but just a little more time devoted to fleshing characters/motivations/events out could have gone a long way.

saw the news. I stopped after S2E1 and never gave the show another thought.

Kudos to those who stuck it out. Sorry there won't be a wrap-up.

The last season was pretty well wrapped up until the last scene. It ended badly for everyone involved, but that felt appropriate given everything up to then.

Mutual annihilation of hosts and humans is pretty spot on for this show. Not sad for them to leave it there

Damn. Not surprised though, it never really caught on. Oh well, guess that'll have to do for a series finale.

Honestly, I can't remember what they ended on?

Basically resetting the show to the beginning

Yep, that's it. Thanks.

Honestly, putting aside the way they got there, which I mostly didn't like, that's not a bad way to end it.

Could even be interpreted as the entire show is going to loop forever.

Part of me wanted a proper ending, just for completion's sake. But at the same time, this many months after the season four finale, I wasn't even remotely interested in seeing the story continued. Life/death became completely irrelevant. Oh well. At least we got seasons one and two and the best parts of three and four, as few and far between as they were.

I am relieved, season4 4' was a complete mess, but I would have watched five anyway for closure, so it saves me like 8 or 10 hours of my time; plus the inevitable frustration I would have after each self important and sloppy episode.

Does require an upfront investment of a couple hundred thousand dollars.

I loved a lot of this season but you hit the nail on the head regarding life/death becoming irrelevant, that was where it turned for me. At the end it got so nihilistic that it made me feel dumb for liking this show as much as I did. If the show becomes so cavalier about these attitudes then how is the viewer supposed to continue to buy in? It became too much about tearing everything down, not really even for the sake of anything other than destruction in and of itself. The humans aren't worth saving, but if they created the hosts in their own image why are the hosts worth saving? They aren't, they're different sides of the same coin.

I kept waiting for them to turn a corner this season, lay some groundwork for optimism, but it never happened.

Much like GoT I'm so mad about how it ended that I don't know if/when I'll choose to revisit the series. This show had so much promise, and they squandered it.

Thinking about doing the same. Might even buy the whole series.

hope the nolans refuse to work with WB/HBO in the future.

Christopher Nolan has moved on from WB, and is with Universal for the foreseeable future, while Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy moved on from HBO and signed an overall deal with Amazon (their first series as part of the deal - only as producers - was The Peripheral, while their more hands-on adaptation of Fallout is set to debut on Amazon next year).

I kind of liked S1 (or the first half of S1?) of the Nevers. They are going to finish it, but on a new obscure non-HBO platform? That sounds like a good plan…
TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm reading contrary reports. Some say they'll be selling off Westworld/The Nevers/etc to another streaming service, while other reports say they're taking them off HBO Max for now, in attempt to save money for a bit, but then they'll be back on the new HBO Max/Discovery service (rumored to simply be called "Max") this coming summer. So I have no idea what's going on, and it doesn't help that Zaslov doesn't even bother to explain these moves at all.
