But I will give you it was a bit of a stretch using humans as batteries. How much electricity did they spend to build and run the infrastructure to harvest human electricity?

The science in The Matrix is complete BS, but it's BS in 99% of science fiction.

I never really think of "machines using humans as batteries" as the premise so much as the necessary plot device. The premise to me is humans freeing themselves from a virtual reality to battle the machines who are enslaving them.

Plus the battery thing was supposedly a change requested by the studio, and in the original script the machines are using human brains for their computational power, like an organic supercomputer.

I didn't know that. That would have been wild. Machines using human brains to provide the computing power to run their own prison!

Maybe that is why the books are called science fiction and not science fact.

When I saw the thread title, I thought of Comic Book Man from the Simpsons and Roman from Party Down.

Signs gets such a bad rap and I think it's a great film.

The movie really isn't about the aliens, so I don't really care if the aliens should have known about their weakness to water. That's such a minor point to the actual theme of the movie.

Has one of the best jump scare / goosebump moments ever for me. Rivaled only by The Ring.

For Signs I'm certainly not an expert if this was the real intent, but there is a theory that they were demons, not aliens.

Quote:

Given the overt biblical themes and imagery throughout Signs, it's not a far leap to assume that the aliens are also related to something biblical in nature. As each of the movie's characters are struggling inwardly with their own inner demons, the aliens become an outward manifestation as physical demons.

Yeah SyFy network movies belong in their own category. My favorite: Chupacabra vs the Alamo

Well, who won?

You're thinking about the physics that exist in the Matrix, which is what the machines want you to think. Once you're unplugged, you'll see in the real world how much energy humans produce.
