Hell yeah, I finally got something right based on the article talking about Bob's heart attack and delay in filming.

Patrick Fabian also returned two months later to play the corpse of Howard Hamlin lying on the floor.

Yep. It's kind of crazy that Jimmy *still* hasn't truly become Saul. Yes, he changed his name/practice, but outside of work he's still 100% Jimmy and not yet the person in Breaking Bad.

I remember watching season one of BCS and thinking, "Oh, so I guess he becomes Saul next season." I remember that being the expectation from day one, that the show was going to be all about goofball Saul and that this Jimmy guy would be short-lived. But no, it was always meant to be about Jimmy, to the point where, now, with only five episodes left in the entire series, he still hasn't truly become Saul.

My point is, we're FINALLY about to see that happen, and I think it's maybe going to be a bigger deal than we've been expecting. Because even after the events of tonight's episode, as shell shocked as he was, it was still Jimmy who was shell shocked. It's *something else* that's going to turn him fully into Saul, and I imagine it has everything to do with Kim, who I still don't think dies, but her tragedies aren't yet over either. And whatever those tragedies are, THAT'S what I'm guessing breaks Jimmy and what leads to the mansion and him fully going Saul, in heartbreakingly spectacular fashion.

Personally, I think the end of the episode is when he became Saul. He was the first to respond to Mike and he was the first to get off of the bed. Jimmy catches a glimpse of Howard being stuffed into the fridge. Done. He is moving on to Saul.

We know he thinks they're still alive at the time of his appearance in the BB timeline.

Saul can still be concerned about the Salamancas coming after him despite him knowing both Nacho and Lalo being dead.

He's of Mexican heritage and was born in Laredo. Probably safe to assume he's been speaking Spanish his whole life.

Same thought as me, he definitely sounds like a native speaker, and he has shades of a South Texas accent (I'm from down around there as well.)

The one who doesn't strike me as a native speaker is Giancarlo Esposito. Apparently he's actually Italian, and it sounded (at least in BB) that he was speaking spanish phonetically rather than naturally. His voice in BCS seems improved to me.

I think having Gus be from South America was kind of a way to hide it. Of course, I could be totally wrong and Giancarlo may have been speaking spanish his whole life too.

Perhaps we never really see Jimmy become Saul. We've already seen him be Saul in this show. He's almost always Saul when interacting with other people in public. Which is the perspective we always saw him from in Breaking Bad. I don't think we ever saw Saul by himself being his true self in Breaking Bad, he was always presented from the perspective of someone else.

has it ever been explained why the Salamancas hate Gus so much? They had to take him in as a distributor because of the Chicken Man's history?

Don Eladio had Hector kill Gus' old business partner (and boyfriend?) in front of Gus as retaliation for Gus and the guy selling their meth to his cartel members without his approval.

Gus then goes with a slow draw revenge on Hector, driving him ultimately to the state he's currently in with the chair, bell, inability to talk etc. By then Gus's meth was already killing it for Don Eladio so he was important to his business, therefore the Salamanca's and Gus had to coexist in a sort of cold war for a while until the events we've seen over the past season.

Yes, it seemed pretty clear the partner was also a boyfriend. Another reason why the Salamancas would despise him. You'll notice Fring never had a female love interest around at any point in BB or BCS. Also, you'll note that Fring became completely stoic after his partner was killed (except when he was pretending to be cordial for business purposes).

About 10 years ago we were flying back from Rome and my wife went to the bathroom and when she came back, she leaned close and said "Gus Fring is sitting behind us". He was in the cattle car with the poors travelling with what seemed to be an assistant. We left him alone and I don't really remember many people at all botheing him. His hair was a bit longer and didn't have his Gus glasses on. I thought she was nuts but she has a good eye for recognizing people.

He's actually supposed to be a fairly gregarious and friendly guy. As for his Spanish accent, it has always been kind of stiff and unnatural. I think think was deliberate as it emphasized his status as an outsider to the cartel, beyond just his skin color. I know he is supposed to be Chilean with connection to Pinochet, again deliberately mysterious. I wonder if the show will dig any deeper there in the time remaining.

I could speculate that the CIA is involved in the whole thing, but that is now a trope plot line from many shows and movies. Narcos and Sicario immediately come to mind.
