So now I'm wondering if we see the connection between BCS and BB happen sooner rather than later. At this point, Saul still believes that Nacho and Lalo are alive, but how long can it last before he figures something out. We know he thinks they're still alive at the time of his appearance in the BB timeline.
Don't know how Jimmy can think Lalo is still alive.

If Mike tells you someone ain't coming back, they ain't coming back.

Jimmy knows that,

Didn't Mike already tell Jimmy or Kim as much once before? After the raid on Lalo's house, I'm almost positive Mike HEAVILY implied that Lalo was dead. And yet, he came roaring back to kill Howard, so I understand why Jimmy might not 100% believe Mike.

Will be traveling for work during next week's episode. Taking vacation the following week and will be watching 8 and 9 back to back in a Palm Springs mansion with my smoking hot wife (no rule 1).
Doesn't get better than that!

Hardest part will be not visiting this thread for 7 days

Yes, and the fact that he was assured Lalo was "gone" already once before will cause this lingering fear that perfectly sets up the scene in Breaking Bad where he asked "Lalo didn't send you?" to a masked Jesse and Walt holding a gun to his head.

Exactly. Per usual, they threaded a needle in brilliant fashion that satisfies all events/logic.

I'm assuming that pays off and he uses the money to buy the "mansion" we saw being torn apart by the feds.

Yep. It's kind of crazy that Jimmy *still* hasn't truly become Saul. Yes, he changed his name/practice, but outside of work he's still 100% Jimmy and not yet the person in Breaking Bad.

I remember watching season one of BCS and thinking, "Oh, so I guess he becomes Saul next season." I remember that being the expectation from day one, that the show was going to be all about goofball Saul and that this Jimmy guy would be short-lived. But no, it was always meant to be about Jimmy, to the point where, now, with only five episodes left in the entire series, he still hasn't truly become Saul.

My point is, we're FINALLY about to see that happen, and I think it's maybe going to be a bigger deal than we've been expecting. Because even after the events of tonight's episode, as shell shocked as he was, it was still Jimmy who was shell shocked. It's *something else* that's going to turn him fully into Saul, and I imagine it has everything to do with Kim, who I still don't think dies, but her tragedies aren't yet over either. And whatever those tragedies are, THAT'S what I'm guessing breaks Jimmy and what leads to the mansion and him fully going Saul, in heartbreakingly spectacular fashion.

So what's left to finish the story?

Appearance by Walt and Jesse.

What happens to KIm?

The Cinnabon story.

What else am I missing?

My theory has always been that because this season technically features three "extra" episodes, for 13 total, as opposed to the usual 10, the final three episodes *might* all potentially be set in the Cinnabon timeline. Which would mean only two episodes left in Albuquerque. And based on the voiceover preview for next week, it sounds like the next episode, at least, is in the immediate aftermath of tonight's events. So, maybe… one episode left in the current timeline, one episode to somehow introduce Walt and Jesse (set between now and 2008), and then the final three episodes in the Cinnabon timeline.

I'm almost assuredly wrong, but that's my best guess as of now.
I think they end with meeting Jesse/Walter. That moment has been one that the entire fan base has been clamoring for the entire series. To wrap that up in the next episodes will make the Cinnabon timeline a little anti-climactic after.

Yet the most important question, the one that would unlock the entire show, came from Gould. "He went quiet for a while," recalls Gilligan. "Then he said, 'What problem does becoming Saul Goodman solve?'"

Quote:

It really tickles me," says Gould, "that when we started the show, all people could ask us was 'when are Walt and Jesse going to show up?' and now they keep on asking us, 'what happens to Kim?!'"

"I run in to people all the time who say to me, somewhat tremulously, 'if you kill Kim, you are in trouble!'" adds Gilligan, laughing. "To me that's the headline of this show: the character of Kim Wexler. How much people love her, how much people root for her, how disappointing it is that her character is, for lack of a better phrase, breaking bad."

I think that if Kim gets killed by the underworld, then Jimmy wouldn't become Saul. He would blame himself for getting her involved in that world and would probably go legit to make it up to her. If she were to die it would need to be by the "normal" world. Like a car crash or by one of her pro-bono clients or something. That could make Jimmy go "F it" and full Saul. After all, Kim would have died doing things the "right" way, why should he bother? However, he would need time to recover from her death by the time BB starts. I don't know if there is enough timeline for that. They can't jump 2 years later and suddenly Jimmy is Saul. That would be terrible writing.

While Kim dying is the only Ozymandias-like gut punch left, that would ruin the Cinnabon storyline. He would have nothing to live for anymore. I'm not sure I would care very much about the post-BB timeline if I knew everybody was dead. But at the same time, if they show her living and then show a reunion at the end of Cinnabon, then that would be predictable. They need to make it both unpredictable and rewarding.

I think Carol Burnette being in the show implies Kim is alive. They wouldn't waste her on a mere funeral appearance or anything. So I think they interleave the stories again, and spring the fate of Kim on us near the end. Then I think they do a reunion in a way that is not predictable (since they are good at that).

Going off of history, all of what I said above is wrong. So take it to the bank that Kim dies.

Jimmy knows that,

Because he actually says it in BB. Asks if Ignacio or Lalo sent Walt and Jesse when they're threatening to kill him in the desert.

How confident is everyone that you'll be satisfied with the ending of BCS? By satisfied, I mean you will think the writers stuck the landing (so the opposite of Game of Thrones), not that you'll personally be pleased with how things turned out for the characters.

I have all the confidence in the writers but the expectations are just so high, I'm sitting at about 75% confident the writers pull it all off in a way that I walk away pleased.

Several pages back, kudos to a few of you that predicted the artsy scene to start the episode and then next scene with Howard's corpse. My mind was all over the place thinking "beach? shoes? there's no big ass lake in the area with sand to be a beach, why they going all the way to Cali?" Then you see the jag and know Mike did clean up duty.

Also great subtle foreshadowing in the pre interviews after last half season with Lalo's and Howard's characters talking about the shooting scene being their first together and then the characters get buried side by side by the end of the episode. They knew that and played it cool.

Enormous small snippet impact where Saul sees them placing Howard's body into the fridge. He was done with him until Kim egged him on and that had to completely break anything left in him that was Jimmy.

And finally, great acting by Patrick Fabian, spent the whole episode on the floor, getting stuffed into an appliance, getting felt up by Mike and then tossed next to Lalo. I bet he had some fun making Bob crack up while they were lying on the floor next to each other and then when he's next to Tony in the pit.

The terror/shock on Mike's face when Kim initially told him that it was Lalo that sent her was great.

I had forgotten that at that point he wasn't fully convinced Lalo was still alive and it was only Gus being overly paranoid.

Just a small detail I thought was really well done.

Didn't they have the recording of Lalo telling Hector that he was going after Gus that night?

Whichever henchman found Lalo's video camera might be able to enrich themselves through a Fring extortion. I guess they'd have to find out Eladio's mailing address.

I'm just being dumb funny, I was just internally laughing about the absurd thought that someone got ahold of the video Fring created when he was distracting Lalo prior to light cut.

Mike said on the phone that somebody crossed the border and that he'd be there in 3 hours.

I forget who he said it was. Was it Juan Bolsa? And why would be coming? At first I thought it was because they were told about Lalo's attempt on Gus's life. But of course, burying him in a secret meth lab dispels that notion.

Think it was Mike

They knew Lalo was back because of the recording of the call to the nursing home. Remember Mike went to the HS event and told Gus he needed him in the safe house? Think that's when he said something along the lines of we've pulled everyone off of non priority targets and if he shows his face they'll get him.

The creative team stated it was an intentional misdirection they wanted to use in the previews/teaser, that's why in the episode last night it is dark and Lalo is intentionally blurry as the line was delivered - they didn't want viewers to see the tell tale lip sync signs.

Ok, they haven't said that yet, but they will at some point in the future - I AM SURE OF IT!!!

Now we know why Mike was so disgusted and frustrated dealing with Walt...for years he had been working for the ultimate perfectionist. Of course Walt was that way cooking meth but in every other aspect of his life...train wreck.

Something that confused me, and it might be nitpicking, but when Mike and his team of guys busted into Jimmy and Kim's place, it was like they either already knew or it took them a half second to realize that Lalo wasn't there. Mike just enters and goes straight to Jimmy to untie him...no looking around for Lalo, guns drawn, searching the place, etc. They were operating under the assumption Lalo was in there, right?
