We know that Saul isn't arrested for murder, so they have to dispose of it some way. No tubs of acid around either.
Best guess is they frame it to look like he got shot trying to buy drugs, then having to further sully the reputation of a man they just destroyed.

I said last week all the set up meant something special was coming. This show never disappoints that way.
Think of all they unraveled here…the entire set up, owning Howard, the fun they got from it, destroyed by a mad man in a single second. Does Kim snap? We know Saul doesn't. Does she take the fall with the cartel? Or just walks away?
And the set up had the additional purpose of getting them their money faster, it forced a settlement, which we likely know Jimmy gets because if that house a few episodes ago.
And in that scene, and I really mean this, they set up Lalo as the best character in the history of the BB universe. Honestly it's not close, he just absolutely owns every scene he's in.
And now Howard is the most tragic. He was a good man for the most part who got completely scammed and then killed. And the way they made him so vulnerable with that speech before killing him was just perfect.
When this writing team gets it right, they simply have no peer.

Hank was pretty universally loved tho. Howard isn't an emotional loss, which makes the way this went down even more incredible

I thought the same thing. Old lady heart attack during the meeting and then an investigation.
I disagree. Hank was always kind of a jerk, but he got to die like a man. I enjoyed Howard's character arc from villain to victim, which makes it s significant loss for me. And he died in a way that is meaningless, at least at the current time.Tobias Funke said:utah, get me two said:

But they basically turned the entire series history on its head.
Those scams were always fun, even as they got more complicated. They were the lighter side of the show, to offset everything else. And they just turned it into the nightmare part and invalidated it all, in literally one second. When you go back and watch those first 5 seasons now, they will look completely different. And that's before whatever stuff is still coming.
It's just so daring, and it basically sets the second r half up as a mad scramble for everyone. Just amazing the more I think about it.

I'm thinking at this point in Saul's career, he's only tangentially tied to Mike. Any contact to the salamancas has been positive (?) and no ties with Gus. So what does Lalo expect to get out of him?

Honestly Howard and nacho, not perfect,were by far the best people and most sympathetic major characters. And this is where the path of Saul led them.
Was Howard's license plate foreshadowing his demise the whole time?
