Other thread got me thinking. My girlfriend refuses to watch:

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (this one chaps my ass the most)

Girl with the dragon tattoo

Spaceballs

Karate Kid movies - or the cobra Kai show.

Jackass - which just came up due to forever. Refuses to go see it or try one of the others even though she's never once seen an episode or movie.

Fifth element

New Dune
CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

All of them

I have a rule that when I get a movie she has 6 months to want to watch it or else I watch it without her. I watch a lot of movies without her.

My wife demanded we go opening night to LOTR: Fellowship even though our son was only 8 months old.

We took him with us. He didn't complain at all. He slept through a lot of it and watched a good portion and she covered him and nursed him partway through. She was not about to miss opening night.

On the other hand, we did not follow the PG-13 recommendations very well as our infant saw an Orc get beheaded near the end of the movie.

My wife won't watch it either. She may have won that battle but I won the war because I convinced our daughter to watch with me.

I watched that movie a ton in the late 80's thru early 00's. Damn near had the thing memorized. And I never fully understood the final scene of the movie until about 5 years ago. Then it clicked. Perhaps I read about it somewhere but I'd like to think it was just on a real slow burn in my subconscious.

I'm currently on a kick to get my wife to watch LA Confidential.

She thinks it's a lame cop movie but I've tried to convince her it's one of the better movies in the 90s to no avail.

I was surprised.

My wife watches a lot of the same stuff I watch. She likes science fiction, fantasy and mindless action movies, but she doesn't like more realistic portrayals of violence. John Wick is fine, but she won't watch things like Goodfellas, Fight Club or any war movie. She also doesn't like comedies that objectifies women, including most Judd Apatow movies or movies like American Pie, where the point of the movie is dudes trying to get laid.

Every kid needs to watch LOTR and see an orc get beheaded. It's an essential part of a healthy childhood.

My wife doesn't want to watch anything that shows any sort of violence/death with kids. Which means I'm screening movies or shows that could have that sort of thing. Not a big deal to me.

But then she gets butthurt when I bring up movies or shows I've already watched...

Sigh. I'm just on a different wavelength with this stuff. I like The Wire, Battlestar Galactica, GOT, Breaking Bad, Star Trek, old Simpsons. She's into Sister Sister reruns and whatever is on the Food Network. I gave up trying long ago. When we find a common show like *****ts Creek or Ted Lasso, it's a huge win.

Early in our relationship I sold District 9 as a social commentary on apartheid in South Africa, and I still haven't regained trust.

Star Wars. The original. A New Hope (for the sort of people who demand exact labeling).
Tombstone

To be fair, this wonderful woman has watched ALL the LOTR movies with me. Ditto for the Hobbit trilogy. Ditto for The Rum Diaries (still can't get her to read any of my extensive HST library, but that's another thread).

It's extremely difficult for me to convince my wife to watch any "old" movies she hasn't seen yet like those made in the 80s, 90s, and sometimes 00s. She says she can't stand dated-looking movies. I'm like, most of those movies are far better than the trash being release today.

My wife is amazing and very smart, but she does not like to have to think when she consumes media. Fortunately, she's content to read next to me when I watch something that requires some thought and focus.

My wife had the same thought, and finally, I just turned it on while we were going to bed, and when I was falling asleep, 45 minutes later, she got mad that I tried to turn it off. She now loves it as one of her favorites. Don't give up.

Now, Tombstone is my new mark. One of my top 5 all time, and I cannot even get her to attempt it…..

I do love Westerns, but Tombstone, to me, goes beyond just being a Western.

Someday my wife will watch The Raid, but one of her fears is being stabbed, and that is QUITE a stabby movie.

Star Wars/Mandalorian/Book of Boba Fett

Really the whole Star Wars universe. It would be nice to share that interest with her.

Honestly, though, it is probably better that she not watch it than watch it with little interest.

My wife loves it.

Interestingly, Fincher has an amazing track record of me getting lucky afterwards.

CCBB, tSN, GwtDT, and GG all lead straight to sex. Something about his directorial style is an aphrodisiac

I'm mildly troubled by the GG one but it's been a few years and as far as I know she's not plotting my downfall.

I had to look up this movie to even know what it is and saw that Kevin Spacey is in it. HARD PASS.

This is how I started watching "Vikings" and GoT. But now he's hinting around at The Mandolorian and Boba Fett. The thing is that I was a SW fan as a kid but I'm soooo over it now.
