The fact that that turd coming out of his backside is something I will be unable to forget for the rest of my life short of full on amnesia or a yet to be invented drug doesn't diminish how much I enjoyed this series. And really enjoyed tonight too. Different feel as it was about healing more than dysfunction or self absorption, but still really good.
Just one note on the musical attention to detail. The hymnal song they played is called "the joy of mans desires". Perfect song for that entire run.

Or the body for that matter. Going to be at the local coroner for awhile. Easy to ignore both though.

overall, I thought it wrapped up really well.

A Mike white interview in some of the contradictions in the series and some thoughts on the finale.

That show was an acquired taste. I didn't like it after the first two episodes, but the third and fourth episodes set the stage for a great wrap up. Alexandra Daddario and Jennifer Coolidge were great.

I was disappointed Daddario's character went back to her husband..

Her going back was most realistic though, which is what I liked about the ending.

Tanya walks away a little more enlightened on her issues, what she can break from, and what she can't, but at the same time, I think she'll be George dropping dead away from turning into a disaster again. Poor Belinda but we knew that was coming. Enjoyed Quinn getting the fantasy ending

I see what you did there.

For the record, Enlightened, from the same creator, is criminally underrated. Probably time for a rewatch.

I was ok with everything EXCEPT..... Shane needed some act of contrition. Not about Armond, but to Rachel.

I'm fine with her going back to him if he has some awakening, even as a result of the stabbing, and comes to her contrite and really just loving her and needing her and says something about changing his ways.

I suppose you could argue he does change and maybe you could see it in his demeanor after stabbing him or even toward approaching her in the airport but... just felt like I needed something more tangible from him in that moment.

Otherwise it feels like it was all Rachel and it wasn't. He was a giant deuche and a baby.

small gripe.

But even with all that, the little **** that arranged the theft is the one that should have been in the box.

Think that's the whole point... there's no contrition and nothing will change. Rachel who was the person you actually rooted for in the series - seemed like she was going to do the right thing and break away... but ultimately she caved out of fear for what her life would be without Shane. She's not going to be happy. She's going to be exactly what she feared. A trophy wife with no career or passion. And a husband she actually can't stand.

And the thing is, had Belinda been able to provide some of her wisdom and do what she dreamed of, helping women both physically and spiritually... she may have held strong and paved her own way in life and probably achieved real happiness and fulfillment. But Belinda was completely emotionally drained and saw her dreams crushed when she gave her all. She had given up... and it resulted in a roundabout way Rachel's unhappy ending.

I mean it's not happy... but it's brilliant.

Pretty solid finale and I'm fairly satisfied with how everything was tied up, with one minor gripe that we never saw what happened with Kai.

He's going to prison

And Paula has herself to blame but thinks somehow she's noble and the Mossbacher's are the "villains". She ruined this guy's life but because her intentions were noble she seemed to get over it fairly quick. And its back to reading books on colonialism...

Paula is the biggest piece of **** in the entire show... minus Armond's actual ****

Just finished. Watched with some friends and we kept pausing to give our predictions. The most fun I've had watching an episode of TV in a long while. I balked at the last minute, though, halfway through, and said Rachel was going to kill Armond with the knife, since Shane kept telling her to be more aware/alert.

As for my predictions here, I'm NEVER right when I guess sh*t like this, so I'm absolutely going to bask in both of these nearly being spot-on...

Quote:

I was going to guess that it's Armond in the casket. And say that Shane ultimately blames Armond for Rachel leaving him, as the botched room is what initially caused the rift between Shane and Rachel, they would have been perfectly happy on their honeymoon otherwise, etc, etc. Armond is high as a kite, there's an altercation, and Armond dies, but it's inadvertent, and Shane ultimately isn't held responsible. So when Shane is staring out the terminal window in the flash forward, he's staring at his nemesis in the casket, wondering how it came to this. But then I quickly realized that if Armond lives in Hawaii, his body wouldn't be on a plane, so I'm back to having absolutely no clue.
Quote:

Is there any chance Rachel *doesn't* leave Shane? Like, it was a huge misdirect and when we cut back to Shane staring out the terminal window, Rachel walks up, joins him, having just been in the bathroom or something? And maybe they reconciled or Shane finally woke up and did something right/noble before the end of the trip? I don't want it to play out that way, and I don't think it will, but just throwing that out there...

Ha, and no, I swear I had no insider info. Even the sun shines on a dogs ass some days...

All that said... what a great finale. Just so satisfying. To the point where this might be the best thing - movie or TV - I've seen all year so far. Or at least the most memorable. That ending felt like such a great movie ending - I don't know how to describe it , maybe it was the climactic airport setting - but Rachel re-appearing (which is obviously more sad/bittersweet than anything), and especially Quinn leaving his family at the very last minute, paddling off into the sunset... it was all so cinematic, and I just loved it so much.

that scene where Paula was really trying to compare white/rich privilege and that heist she planned, as equal crimes, must have been really good because I was genuinely pissed off and calling her names at my TV.

My only complaint about the ending is a 16 year old bailing and they presumably just fly away. I would be off that plane and calling the cops as a parent (edit clarification)

I don't know about brilliant. I get it.

I just think based on her character throughout she would not stay for no reason or not seeing a change in him.

But you have to consider the humiliation of an immediate annulment after the massive wedding they just had, and back to the question of what is she going to do to live now if she dumps him. It's a lot to take on after about 5 days of regret. At a minimum, she goes "well, I'm at least going to try to suck it up" mode and in reality this is a likely couple divorced on less than 5 years

The vast majority of people would do what she's doing
Bunk Moreland
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Agree. Just because the show ends there does not mean they make up and live happily ever after.

They suck it up for a few more years during an already flawed marriage until they both mutually are ready to bail on each other.

Also, once she heard the news that Armond was in their room doing that and Shane killed him, she probably immediately filled up with some regret in casting off his whining about the White Lotus and the staff as much as she did. While it wasn't ever really serious until that moment, she doesn't know that so all the sudden his complaints look justified in her eyes.

In my fan fiction, Connie Britton has to go home due to the job so Steve Zahn says he'll hang back, exit the plane to find the son and bring him home. They both stay out there another week to bond more and ultimately neither fly home.

Really enjoyed the finale. They did a great job of teasing each possible outcome by bouncing back and forth between Paula contemplating her decisions, Greg's coughing fits, Quinn going out rowing and wanting to stay, and Belinda getting fed up with the rich guests. After each scene my in-episode prediction kept changing.

Add toss salad guy ODing to the possibilities they were throwing out there. He was actually my frontrunner for the past few episodes in that it would truly send Armond up **** creek. I was hedging that the whole thing was a bit of a red herring in that they would not kill a main character. George was probably guess #2 (although a natural death vs "killed" probably ruled him out) with Armond as #3 in what I was thinking was most likely. I did figure if it was a main character, Armond would be it. But they did an amazing job of taking it as deep into the final episode with still so many possibilities

thought the same when she was by herself on the boat - before she tossed the necklace - thought she was gonna slip overboard while they were distracted and having fun and they kept going leaving her to drown.

Was kinda hoping for it actually. lol.

The daughter had such a chance there for redemption and incredibly she still chose her "friend" and protected her. Pathetic. Even after her friend eviscerated her again when they talked. Grrrrr.

yeah she chose a bitter scheming narcissist who stole from her family and might have gotten her mom hurt or killed.

it was redeeming of their friendship - not redeeming of her character. imho.

I dont think she chose her over the family. If we are imagining how this ends, I think they get home and that friendship fizzles out pretty quickly.

Her leaving him would have been the bigger surprise. Nothing about her character led one to the belief she had any backbone.

yep, and what's so great about the way this show is written is that we should have seen that coming once Steve Zahn's character stated matter of factly that nobody cedes their privilege. i love the way they interconnect the issues going on by all the different groups and it totally makes sense that Rachel would find a way to rationalize sticking it out with Shane.

plus Rachel also mentioned to Connie Britton's character that there was a generous pre-nup, but had some time restrictions. thus, i wonder if an immediate divorce like that would largely invalidate her pre-nup.
