From all accounts, Patrick Swayze may have been one of the best people in Hollywood. RIP, Bodhi.

He grew up across the street from my Godmother
She still has the yearbook he signed

Apparently he had a great and kind family

Met Kevin James once in New Braunfels. Really nice guy, took the time to talk to everyone that came up to him.
Everything I've read about KJ seems to match your experience. He is a family guy, a church-going Catholic and very loyal to his coworkers. His relationship with Jerry Stiller was heart-warming.
Could you expand on KJ and Jerry Stiller's relationship? All I could find was KJ posted a touching tribute to Jerry on his instagram after Jerry passed. I know they acted together in King of Queens. I was just curious if there was more to the story I am missing.
Well, for starters James really wanted Stiller for KoQ and begged him to come out of retirement. Then he basically hired everyone in Stiller's family to be in KoQ so they could share in the experience. Even Ben Stiller made a couple of cameos.

After the show ended, James apparently kept in close touch with Jerry. I've seen several photos of them together -- on Jerry's birthday, at a Knicks game, etc.

When they did the KoQ table read during the pandemic, it was obvious from the comments that everyone on the show loved Jerry, especially Kevin.

Natalie Portman is the reason I work out. I have this fantasy where we start talking at the Vanity Fair Oscars party bar. We exchange a few pleasantries. She asks what I do. I say I loved her in New Girl. She laughs. I get my drink.

"Well, see ya," I say and walk away. I've got her attention now. How many guys voluntarily leave a conversation with Natalie Portman? She touches her neck as she watches me leave.

Later, as the night's dragged on and the coterie of gorgeous narcissists grows increasingly loose, she finds me on the balcony, my bowtie undone, smoking a cigarette.

"Got a spare?" she asks.

"What's in it for me?" I say as I hand her one of my little white ladies. She smiles.

"Conversation with me, duh."

I laugh.

"What's so funny?" she protests.

"Nothing, nothing... It's just... don't you grow tired of the egos?"

"You get used to it," she says, lighting her cigarette and handing me back the lighter.

"What would you do if you weren't an actress?" I ask.

"Teaching, I think."

"And if I was your student, what would I be learning?"

"Discipline," she says quickly, looking up into my eyes, before changing the subject. "Where are you from?"

"Bermuda," I say.

"Oh wow. That's lovely."

"It's ok," I admit. "Not everything is to my liking."

"What could possibly be not to your liking in Bermuda?" she inquires.

"I don't like sand," I tell her. "It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere."

I produced a staged reading of a script that Jenna Fischer's husband Lee wrote. Hung out and had drinks with them after. We were all parents of very young kids at the time so we just had normal tired parent conversations. Super nice, normal people.

I've always gotten that feeling from Voight.

From what I've heard: Keaunu is supposed to be the nicest guy in Hollywood. I have also heard good things about Chris Pratt (which I would expect from a believer).

I've seen many stories of Adam Sandler just playing normal pickup basketball games with random people, and every account was how down to earth he is.

I don't know much about Conan's interaction with normal people, but I know he is notoriously generous with and loved by his staff and crew. I think his interactions with fans are generally him messing with them because he just likes being silly.

I give the dude a pass.

He's been walking around as luke skywalker since 1977.

I would imagine it would get kind of old after a few years.

He probably wanted it to end at some point and move on with his life.

I cant think of anyone more famous, and associated with a specific character than Hammil.

That character took over his life.

My son and I briefly met Kevin Costner after he was done filming JFK for the day outside the NO court house. Still in his lawyer attire he was signing autographs and chatting with everyone. My son called him Mr. Costner and he smiled and replied "Mr. Costner...I like that" and shook my son's hand. Just a brief encounter but one my son still fondly remembers.

Another Keanu story here...

My daughter's friend had a younger brother who was diagnosed with bone cancer. His "Make A Wish" was to meet KR. Not only did he agree to meet the kid, Keanu invited the family to his home for a couple of days and hosted a private movie screening for them.

After the family returned home, Keanu called or texted almost every day until the kid died.

Hugh Jackman should have been mentioned by now. At least, he reportedly has a reputation as one of the nicest celebrities.

I don't know if that's true, but the guy is definitely talented and always seems to be so damn positive about life and excited to meet fans.

I've had the chance to meet Schwarzenegger twice and he was very nice both times.

I had brunch with/hung out with Saoirse Ronan while visiting family in Dublin. My cousin-in-law is close friends with her and grew up with her. She was very sweet, but this was also before she became a household name via the Brooklyn film.

Good point

So, a lot of anecdotal stories of celebrities being good people out of the spotlight. Is it the norm, or does this crowd just happen to stumble on the nice ones? Are they simply different when it comes to press junkets and spotlights? I dunno.

true personal story about jack black...

me and a buddy went to austin to see tenacious d open for the string cheese incident in 2002. there was a group in a pop-up canopy selling copies of the tenacious d CD along with a "VIP" pass that gave you access to a meet and greet after their set finished. it seemed a little sketchy and was only $15, but we figured why not. they told us to meet in a certain area after the set.

fast forward to after their set and, of course, it was a scam and about 20 of us were just hanging out where we were told. after about a half-hour, we were about to leave when a security guard came by and someone told him what happened. he told us to sit tight, then about 20 minutes later, they took us to a different area where jack and kyle met with us anyway, took pictures and signed autographs. they could not have been nicer and more down to earth. i bet they spent about an hour just chatting with people.

Can confirm. Met him when I was in my early 20s. Asked for his autograph and he told me no. But...he sat and talked with me for a good 5 minutes and was really cool. Unfortunately, I don't remember a whole lot from our conversation since I was quite inebriated.

He was pretty cool the only time I had occasion to hang out w/ him, which was after their acoustic show at The Tavern on West Gray in Houston in ~2005 I think. One of their first shows really (post Layne), and there weren't that many people there. My brother and I may or may not have partaken in a little toke w/ him and a couple of the other dudes.

I met Jack Black on the set of Bernie. I was in a scene with him and we were there for quite a while doing different takes. He was very engaging and funny and seemed to be genuinely nice.

John Schneider shot a movie in Smithville and was here for several weeks. He was kind to everyone he met. We ended up playing golf together about 10 times. Really nice guy. A friend ran into him a couple years later and he sent me a personal video just saying hello and that we should go play golf again.

Another one who shot a movie here in Smithville was Jon Gries. Most people know him for playing Uncle Rico. He is a great guy with an awesome sense of humor. He would hang out with us after shooting all day, drinking beer and telling stories.

I saw them (AIC) acoustic at Antone's in Austin, but it sold out the day of on sale... hardly an empty show. It was 2007.

I lived in Houston during 00s and I don't remember him doing an acoustic show there. Must have missed my radar. I've seen him/AIC 8-9 times.

Fun website of all the stories involving Bill Murray.

Two stories I remember:

1. Murray would hand out hundred dollar bills to homeless people while working on Ghostbusters.

2. Bill and his brothers always call Kelly Lynch's husband whenever they catch Roadhouse on TV and Swazye/Lynch have their sex scene. Been going on for 20 years.

I was on flight with Mike Tyson one time. He sat in first class and his entourage all sat in coach. He was still laughing with fans and signing autographs when I left the airport. I never much cared about him, but thought that was impressive.

oh ok, that was solo before they reformed. I was gonna say, I've yet to see post-Layne AIC where it didn't sell out, unless it was a festival. 4-5 times now here in Denver in 10 years plus the austin one, sold out every show.

Weird, this show doesn't show up on setlist.fm but a show in 2004 does.
