How long do you want to ignore this user?
Has anyone seen this guy lately? I am taking my wife to Gruene for her birthday weekend and he is at the hall. It is acoustic so I am worried about a train wreck. Just wondering what I am paying $40 a ticket for.

Depends on how drunk he is. I've seen him kill it, and I've seen him absolutely bomb.

The last time we saw him he was so drunk he almost fell off the stage and was talk singing. Reminded me of the last time I saw Gary Stewart. I was hoping someone had seen him recently and he had got his poop in one sock.

Saw him two summers ago at a 4th of July festival and had a similar experience to a few of the responses. He was drunk as a skunk and couldn't remember his lyrics. My mom and sister saw him two weeks later and said he killed it for what it's worth.

To make your wife happy and hang out at Gruene. If it were just for music, there's a long list of local entertainers I'd rather see for $10-20 than Pat Green for $40. But you're never just paying for the music at a historic venue; you're also paying rent to take in whatever scenery and get good backdrops for the pics.

Saw him a few years ago and he forgot the lyrics to Wave on Wave and was slurring through Three Days among his other songs

I wonder if we saw him at the same event. My experience too.

Saw him earlier this month at Mile 0 fest in Key West and he put on a damn good show surprisingly. He wasn't hammered at all. He killed it

Wife also saw him play about another month before this at the Rustic, and she said he was good as well

Good news. Hope he has somewhat gotten it together.

Saw him there last fall. Even a train wreck concert at Gruene still means you're in Gruene. Love that place.

I saw him at Stubbs a couple years ago and he was drinking Red Bull only. I think he may have gone to rehab or AA. Haven't heard any stories of train wreck shows in a couple years now.

Edit: in fact, I think he said a short story about how his wife helped him get away from his "crazy ways" or something like that. Via his Instagram, it looks like he's taking on a father/grandfather roll in the Texas country scene now

I've seen him a few times over the past year. Willie's Joint and Nutty Brown. It seems as though he's slowed things down a bit on the drinking side. He still drinks but not to the extent that most have experienced.

I did some work for Pat years ago when he lived in Austin. He had just started to really hit it big & had a deal with Miller. We were in his driveway shooting the breeze & he goes, "Hey man, you want some beer for the road?" He opens the garage & has a couple of pallets of Miller Lite sitting there. I said "holy s*&t" & he said they drop off a pallet every so often for him & the band. Very nice guy it seemed in my limited time around him. (I took 2 - 18 packs) #CoolStorryBro

It's funny and sad how many people have the same Gary Stewart story.

Pat Green at Shadow Canyon is still one of the best concerts I've ever been to. So much fun.

Grew up listening to Gary Stewart and was really pumped to see him at the Hall of Fame. It was just sad to watch when he took the stage and fumbled through his set. That dude lived every song he ever wrote.

Just saw him at the Steiner Ranch Steakhouse in Austin and he was great. It was him, a guitar player and a fiddle player. He did a lot more storytelling between songs and was really enjoyable and funny. We were with people who were not huge country/Pat Green fans, but they even said how great it was. Also saw him at Hurricane Harry's in College Station in 2019 when was supposedly just back to being sober. He was great then as well.

Good to hear he's back to being a good show. Last time I saw him was at Luckenbach, and he was drunk and terrible. He used to be one of the best shows in the state.

During Covid last year he would do songs from his house on Facebook and tell stories to fans. He seems to have his head on straight now.

Ten years ago I wondered if Pat Green would be the Gary Stewart of this generation.

Thinking about that.....I wonder how many shows did Gary Stewart have to bomb for his name to become synonymous throughout Texas for being a drunk ass?

Pat Green showed up at a Todd Snider show at the old Dixie Theater in Bryan, mid 90s. Drank a lot in back and eventually pushed his way to stage front during the show. During Alright Guy, he got excited, hopped up on stage to sing the chorus with Todd on his mike. As the chorus finished, Todd backed away from the mike, pointed at it telling Pat to sing the next verse. Pat's expression changed, and he mumbled that he didn't know the words. He stumbled off stage quietly and, I think, left.

Years back I worked an event in Westlake. I was moving a lot of stuff from one bar to another to get it setup for the after dinner show. At this time everyone is doing dinner except for a handful of people lingering around the dance area and me setting up the bar. I didn't know who was playing and this guy comes over and asks if he can have a whiskey & coke (or whatever it was). I told them that I'm almost finished setting up and to give me 5 min. Keep in mind, this is a high end event and the managers are adamant about service. He keeps asking if he can pour his own drink and I refuse to let him. I finish the bar set up 5 min later and I pour him a drink. Fast forward another 45 min the people start gathering and he gets on the mic and introduces himself. I kinda felt stupid for not recognizing him but granted it had been a long time since I saw him in college.

By the time I saw Gary Stewart in like '99 or something, he had real health problems and had to do an intermission to go back to the rv and do whatever. But other than that, he put on a good show and was sober. Missed his wild and crazy days.

Like many others have said, have seen good shows and really bad shows from him. One that sticks out was seeing him at Wolf Pen sometime around 04-05 where he got completely obliterated and threw his mic (stand and all) into the moat in front of the stage. What happened next was a very awkward yet hilarious exchange of shoulder shrugs and "wtf do we do now" looks between him and the crew.

A neighbor sww him out by San Angelo a few weeks ago. He was a little late coming in stage and theybwere worried he was backstage pounding beers. He came out shortly thereafter and played a great show. He'd just gotten over covid so he hadn't been drinking.

The only Pat Green I know is the early 2000s one. Has he made any notable music since then?
