No, this came from a sensor and sensors can malfunction, so let's verify the sensor wasn't malfunctioning so we can then determine what to make of this information.
Ummm... this is exactly what Tyson said and was why I posted it.

Many on this thread are simply saying, "SENSORS, SO MUST BE TRUE!"

As someone who is not a scientist, I found it interesting the first thing he asked was to understand everything about the sensors. He then followed this up with a real world scenario where equipment, that was not verified, created an anomaly in the data. The fact this also came from one of the most prominent living astrophysicists should not be so easily brushed under the rug.

But, by all means, continue with your hyperbole.

Difference is that this is the first time ever (that I'm aware of) that the military has confirmed one of these types of videos is real.

I'm with you on quality. If these things are real and buzzing the military on a daily basis for past couple of years then they must have some better pictures of them.

Which kind of brings me to something we haven't really discussed. It's all BS. It's a lie. They faked some videos and got some people to lie on 60 Minutes because they want to make the rest of America and the world think that there really are unknown strange objects in our skies. Y'all think that's possible?

That's not what I'm saying at all so if that's how you're taking it let me clarify. I agree with Tyson. It must be checked because it's a possible explanation. I don't know if they've ruled one way or the other on the 80000 ft data.

My issue is with intellectually lazy people who are taking an attitude ""SENSORS! MUST BE ERROR! THEREFORE EVERYTHING IS ERROR!" They think that because they possibly explained away one data point then all the other data points are also wrong by default.

Not a chance.

If only because "got some people to lie" would be WAY more complicated than you make it sound.

David Fravor, Chad Underwood, and Alex Dietrich were each literally/confirmed Top Gun pilots in 2004, the year of the Nimitz encounter, so the government would have had to not only convince pilots of their stature to go along with this ruse, but then have held Dietrich back, who didn't come forward until just this year, even though her name was known in certain circles as being witness to the Nimitz events since 2017. In that time, they would have also had to give these pilots acting lessons, seeing as their many on-camera testimonies are utterly convincing.

Add to the fact that Lue Elizondo and Chris Mellon knew about the Nimitz encounter years before the public did in 2017, and we're talking about a 15+ year operation (the Nimitz encounter happened in 2004) of the government first duping the two of them, in one of the most elaborate operations ever, using Top Gun pilots as paid actors over what was likely a decade, first giving confidential interviews to Elizondo and his team, and then making sure Mellon was given the videos and released them along with the pilots' stories to the New York Times (in 2017)

This of course ignores the other, non-pilot witnesses like Sean Cahill and the like, who corroborate the same story, all being part of some giant government operation to eventually trick its own citizens into eventually believing a narrative that the government itself doesn't know what these things are, and thus may not be able to fully protect its citizens from an unknown potential threat.

I'm sorry, but none of that makes a lick of sense, and is more improbable than even the story these pilots are telling.

You can add Obama to your list as well. How did they get him to go along with it? Seems unlikely.

But I still think it would be easier to pull that off than it would be for China to build way advanced Star Trek level drones or for a far away civilization to build exotic warp drives.

Has there every been a real movie about Roswell? Not a made for TV movie with , but a real Hollywood movie.
TCTTS, you should do a new movie about Roswell, but include all the different conspiracy theories and present them to the viewer for them to make up their mind, kind of like Oliver Stone's JFK. Open with the crash, then fast forward to the late 70s when that retired Colonel said that the weather balloon was a coverup or something.
The chaos documentary format and the way Stone interlaced it in JFK with the active scene always gave me chills. Something like that covering the immediate aftermath of the 'crash' with a someone with a creepy voice narrating it. "Weather balloon?, that dog don't hunt."

We don't need our gov to connect the dots for us. Or do we? It's like pulling teeth..tremendous push back. I am curious why they have lied for the past 70+ years. Maybe we couldn't handle the truth? The threat to our national security is not the reality of advanced civilizations. Its the on going cover-up.

Seriously, though, *the* cinematic Roswell take hit me a few months back, and I've been somewhat obsessed with it ever since. Bought every book I could, and have been wading through them all in my off time ever since. One aspect of the idea is very much along the lines of what you're talking about, but ultimately the story would be told through the eyes of Major Jesse Marcel, the first military officer to discover the debris. Marcel claims he didn't come across any alien bodies or the craft itself; rather, he says he only inspected the initial debris field where the craft (*if* there was was craft) first skid and bounced, leaving a nearly mile-long debris field, before it reportedly/finally crashed and landed two miles away (which, again, Marcel never saw). But it was in that debris field that Marcel says he came across "memory metals" and something akin to fiber optics strewn about the desert floor. So the first two thirds of the movie would very much be the grounded, character-driven, alien-less telling of the story. Very empathetic toward Marcel, seeing the story unfold through his eyes. But then once the tables turn on him, and the government essentially tells him "there was nothing to see here," through their questioning, even we start to wonder if Marcel is/was telling the truth. And then eventually, in the final act, I have a very specific way in which - and a very specific person through which - we would explore all the various theories, JFK-style, as you mentioned, ultimately leading to a very cathartic moment for Marcel.

Cards on the table, ultimately I'm going to lean slightly more in Marcel's favor - that he *was* telling the truth - but also leave it open for interpretation enough where you should still be questioning him. His arc in real life is just so damn good and compelling, and so perfectly fits the three-act, rise-fall-resoltion structure, that you can't not tell the story (mostly) through his eyes. I have basically the entire movie mapped out, and some of the dots I'm connecting thematically are pretty wild, and so incredibly cinematic. I don't want to get too much more into it here, as I really do think I'm onto to something, and don't want to show *all* my cards just yet. That said, I'm not blowing the doors off the 75-year investigation or anything like that - I won't be providing any startling new discoveries - but seeing this story told the way I plan on telling it, altogether for the first time cinematically, with the context I plan on providing, really could make for a hell of a movie. Basically, my goal is to take Roswell out of the realm of the cheesy and kitsch, and into something much more empathetic and personal and compelling. I won't be providing any new answers - and will hardly be showing any aliens or anything like that - but I know exactly how to give this story the emotion and thematic core its lacked for so long.

And now, with my production company set up the way we are (we currently have an overall deal with a studio, and basically unlimited potential resources), I really do have a shot at getting this made.

There's been only one Roswell movie so far, a 1994 made-for-TV movie starring Kyle MacLachlan, Martin Sheen, Dwight Yoakam called Roswell: The U.F.O. Cover-Up, and it's terrible. I watched it just the other day for research, and I have zero doubt we can do so much better...

Ha, I definitely couldn't have easily brought this up at any point Roswell has already been mentioned in this thread in the past month. Instead, I was just waiting for the exact right opportunity to jump at the chance to try and embarrass myself even further in front the cool kids who post in an alien message board but don't believe in aliens themselves. Was it that obvious?

I literally laughed in my post and was saying all that as jokingly as possible.

- Person makes a lighthearted joke about someone.
- That someone makes a lighthearted joke in return.
- The first person: "Geez, man, relax!"

Such a TexAgs staple.

I used to have this one in hardback. Published in 1994, and probably repeats a lot of the info in the other Randle-Schmitt books, but I remember it being well written and documented.

The Truth About the Ufo Crash at Roswell by Randle, Kevin D., Schmitt, Donald R.

I've been thinking about the government misinformation angle. TC you bring up some good points. But I can't take it off the table yet for the simple fact that the govt has messed with us before, and they'll do it again in the future. Perhaps I'm being as illogical as the people who won't admit even a remote possibility these really might be strange objects.
TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I hear you. I'll put it this way - I think the pilots are telling the truth. Beyond that, though, there's absolutely a world in which government shenanigans could obviously be at play.
Sea Speed
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The pilots can be telling the truth amd be completely dead ass wrong about what they saw.
TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Sure. But once again, the chances of EVERY pilot, across seven decades, being "wrong" about what they saw, are ridiculously slim. I don't doubt that Fravor & co saw a white tic-tac. When four credible witnesses in their position all say they saw the exact same thing, it's pretty hard to discount that. It seems crazy to me to me to say they all hallucinated that simultaneously. That said, I'm totally up for the debate as to whether it was alien or not.
Rocagnante
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Agree. I don't think this is the culmination of a bunch of mis-identified things. When the pilots move in for a closer look, these things move away. It's not a balloon. A drone could do that, but with current known technology, they couldn't fly away fast enough our jets couldn't keep up. It's not another aircraft, these have no wings. It's not a strange reflection off the canopy, or Venus, or something like that. These pilots are stating they are seeing objects and I can't think of anything that's not an object that is so convincing they would go on record stating they are objects. Even Obama has stated for the record these are objects.

I keep coming back to its a lie or it's a real object. If it's a real object then some interesting options are in play.
