I heard an interesting thing that Paul Scheer mentioned on a recent "How Did This Get Made" podcast:

Apparently, all of Tig Notaro's scenes were filmed after the movie was done. The actor originally in the movie was kicked off and she came in and filmed all her scenes in front of a green screen alone and was digitally inserted over the other actor. She had zero interactions with any of the other actors in the movie.

It looked like a cameo from Ken Jeong as zombie Elvis.

This looks like it would be a fun popcorn flick in a theater.

Plus Garret Dillahunt, an actor so enjoyable he played 2 different roles in Deadwood.

If you havent seen Raising Hope, Dillahunt has comedy chops too.

Also great in the Terminator TV series.

I think this is very good news and a great call by Cinemark.

I'm not sure I understand the logic of the early release though. i get it for Oscar-buzz movies, but not films like this. I'd imagine that will piss off at least some of their subscribers by giving others earlier access to content that they're paying for.

Amusing minutia.

Quote:

. . .
Zack Snyder's upcoming Netflix zombie epic "Army of the Dead" boasts an R rating, but even the filmmaker knows there's a limit to what he can do on screen. Case in point: There's one sequence Snyder removed from "Army of the Dead" because it pushed the boundary too far. The director recently answered "yes" when asked by The Sunday Times if any idea for the film crossed a line, adding, "We had a sequence where one of the male strippers had a huge ***** with a bite taken out of it. We thought that was too much."

A zombie ***** will not appear in "Army of the Dead," but zombified animals such as a horse and a tiger will be getting screen time. As reported last month, the film's VFX team created a zombie tiger named Valentine by using a real tiger from the sanctuary owned by the infamous "Tiger King" subject Carole Baskin. Snyder's VFX team spent a week at Baskin's sanctuary studying a tiger so that Valentine would act as lifelike as possible in the film.
. . .
Snyder also wanted to push his zombies into new territory. A subset of the undead in "Army of the Dead" have advanced to the point of being able to open doors and organize into groups. The director said, "I wanted to endeavor, like any good villain, to make the zombies as sympathetic as possible. I want to get you on Team Zombie."

Did anyone see this?

Wish they didn't release before available on Netflix.

I did. Army of the Dead is a messy, ultra-violent blast that, while still dripping with cliches, was a pretty satisfying experience. It won't change the world; there's really nothing here you haven't seen before, but it's got some cool world building and the action is fun. It's just a solid, unpretentious genre exercise where Snyder gets to abandon the overly dour grimness of his DC input and just have fun.

Not watching....can't have an army of the dead without a dude with a chainsaw for an arm fighting them! Principles people, principles!

I see that this is now streaming on Netflix, but I've got an opportunity to see this in the theater this afternoon and I think I'll do that. I've seen so few movies on the big screen that I think I'd actually pay for a ticket for this. I didn't get the chance to see Mortal Kombat in a theater and I think I would have enjoyed it better if I had instead of seeing it at home.

Does have a zombie tiger, although they failed on the name. Should have named the tiger Carol or Baskins

Just got out.

Not bad. Not bad at all. Worth seeing on the big screen.

I enjoyed that it had a bunch of Snyder-isms, but wasn't overindulgent. This was probably his best movie in awhile.

It includes just about every action movie cliche Hollywood has ever come up with, it has enough plot holes for five movies, and the acting is pretty mundane. Having said that I actually enjoyed it for what it is. A mindless zombie action flick with lots of gore and gratuitous violence. Anyone expecting a high minded art house film should look elsewhere.

Fun movie! I enjoyed it

One question. Were there Zombie Robots? They had some scenes that looked like there were but didn't really explain

I did notice that. Weird.

Hey, since it's on Neftlix, I was able to locate the scene with one. It's at the 1:55.25 mark. That zombie absolutely had a Terminator skull with blue glowing eyes.

That was just horrendous. I can't believe Zack Snyder still gets paid to make movies. Not good in a good way, and not bad in a good way. Just bad in an "I want my hours back" way.

What really sent it over the top was when the McGuffin person that screwed everyone literally just disappeared in the final helicopter ride out of the city. The movie turns from all about getting money out of Vegas to saving a stupid woman. Then, the woman just disappears between her rescue and civiliation.

I somehow lost track of how and why the woman that Draxs daughter went back for actually got captured in the first place. I thought she was in the refugee camp with daughter in beginning but then disappears and got captured?

I also thought it was hilarious when the Latina woman finally professes her love to Drax and then she immediately gets her head 180ed by a zombie and dies right in front of him. Lol.

Also the first tactical nuke as a solution to solve a problem that I've seen in a movie where no one should have a problem with it. Perfect scenario for that and should have been done the day after they walled it off. In that regard, there never should have been a movie in a world with logic.

Movie was ok. Nothing ground breaking here.

I immediately thought the same as earlier posts, zombieland oceans 11. Solid stuff for a zombie movie. Vegas, action, comedy, tigers, nukes, music, drax. Loved it.

Thought it was a lot of fun. Pulled scenes from just about every horror and action movie one could think of.... but it's a got a zombie tiger so you really weren't taking it seriously enough to care.

This was pretty much what I expected. Solid action sequences, pretty interesting world building, some plot holes. I actually thought the characters felt reasonably authentic, though we definitely had some of the typical sterotypes.

So basically, if you think you'd like to watch this you're going to get exactly what you wanted.

I was primed to like it, and wanted to like it, but it took 3 sittings to finish it. The violence and gore was good (and filmmakers can get away with more explicit scenes as time goes by, but this one pushed the boundary out so kudos), and the acting wasn't terrible.

It was the dialogue (bad, but not in an unintentionally funny kind of way) and editing that made it a slog to get through. I like B movie horror, so for the script to suck most of the joy out of this one for me is surprising. Every joke is labored and lame, and the revelations disjointed and hackneyed.

I also feel like for stunt-extras they just went to the local dance studio. So many of the zombies movements looked like stage dancing. I couldn't help but think of Tobias and his gang

Just finished after 3 tries (not due to not being interested, I just don't have much TV time to myself and I don't take over the TV from my family when I want to watch something like this that my wife has not interest in or my kids can't watch)

Very enjoyable and probably the best action movie since Triple Frontier from Netflix.

2 glaring things. They did not do a good job with Tig. There was 0 chemistry with her. Totally get the situation but I would have picked up on it being weird with out knowing that she was filming her scenes alone.

The Power dude not feeling the effects of the bite till hours later was completely different than every other character

Neither took that much away but I had a good time. Glad for Snyder to get back in the saddle. I feel like he got the shaft from WB after seeing extended cut of BvS and his version of Justice League.

For whatever reason I am always very forgiving when it comes to the Zombie genre, but I absolutely hated the daughter's bull**** and her half-ass rescue mission.

I dug the gore and the high use of practical effects throughout the movie.

I probably could have done without the Alphas but I've always been partial to slow walking zombie hordes so at least they included the "shamblers" to provide some balance.

Overall I enjoyed it but unless there is a sequel I doubt I will revisit this one anytime soon.
