Could never post this on "Politics" - in a 1971 episode of Columbo , Eddie Albert plays a retired Marine Major General. He has a collection of guns , one of which he refers to as an "AK-47 assault rifle" The horror. Eddie Albert was actually a WWII veteran, Bronze Star recipient for action in the Pacific.)

Donald Pleasance, one of the stars of The Great Escape, served in the RAF , flying several dozen combat missions. His plane was shot down in 1944, and was a for real POW.

Kid Rock divorced Pamela Anderson because of her part in Borat.

https://www.theguardian.com/film/2019/may/31/pamela-anderson-kid-rock-divorce-borat-sacha-baron-cohen

Quote:

When the film was released in November 2006, Anderson had been married to Rock for three months but their divorce a few weeks later led many to wonder if the movie had played a part in the break-up.
At the time, it was reported that a friend of Anderson's said Rock was unhappy with the film, and after the credits rolled "started screaming at Pam, saying she had humiliated herself and telling her, 'You're nothing but a *****! You're a ****! How could you do that movie?'"
Speaking on the Last Laugh, Baron Cohen said that he had texted Anderson to ask how the screening had gone and for Rock's opinion. "She texted back that they were getting divorced," he said.
"I thought it was a joke," Baron Cohen added, "but then a few weeks later they got divorced and they put as a reason for divorce: Borat." He went on to say Anderson and Rock made a "much better" couple than Anderson and Julian Assange.

Sacha Baron Cohen has confirmed rumours that Pamela Anderson's involvement in his hit 2006 comedy, Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, led directly to her divorce from the rapper Kid Rock.
Speaking on the Last Laugh podcast, Baron Cohen recalled needing to twice shoot a scene in which his character kidnaps long-time crush Anderson at a meet and greet, with the intention of marrying her later that day.

The first time they shot it, at a book signing, Baron Cohen "grabbed her over my shoulder and ran out with her and no one did anything," he said. "I was like, what kind of fans are these?"

The second time, Borat stuffs Anderson who was in on the joke into a "Kazakh marriage sack" before making off with her, resulting in a kerfuffle in which Anderson "lost a tiny bit of bone from her jaw".

This is music and not movies, but Don Felder is the Kevin Bacon of music.
Growing up in Gainesville he grew up with Bernie Leadon with whom he would eventually join the eagles. Learned slide guitar from Duane Allman who he was friends with from where they competed in band competitions in Ajax. And was the one who taught Tom Petty how to play guitar. And just for fun, was in a band with Stephen Stills.

Really love this thread.

Here's one I found interesting. As a kid The Last Starfighter was my jam. I'm sure it doesn't hold up anymore (like most of my childhood favs).

An interesting intermingle of two of my favorites (BTtF being my all time favorite).

The starcar from The Last Starfighter made a cameo in BTtF II

Last Star Fighter was the first to use 100% CGI in their space scenes.

Here's a new one I just found out today. I had absolutely no clue. I can't understand why the director of Walk the Line casted a clearly white actress for the role. Mind blown!

Yeah, I suppose. You would hope that by 2005 an "autobiographic" movie about Cash would touch on the subject and what they went through though.

I think Walk the Line was more of a love story rather than an autobiographical movie. Agree it should have been cast the correct way but perhaps the film makers didn't want the racial issues to change the focus of their story.

My theory: The filmmakers didn't want the audience to see Vivian as a sympathetic character, and had to make June the wife he was supposed to be with.

Pretty sure it was a given Danny Devito would be on the front row.

I had the same thought.

My wife did that on a Christmas card well before photoshop. She did it in paint. We had the 2 dogs and our 5 year old in the card. So we finally got one with both dogs look at the camera and our kid was making a horrible face.

Yes, Borat is definitely the most whorish thing Pamela Anderson has done on video. Good decision, Mr. Rock.
