I thought Superman turning his eye to track the Flash was way cooler.
I wasn't a big fan of the end Flash moment:
Flash spends the whole fight running in circles to build up speed and complaining he can't do it much longer. Somehow gets shot near the speed of light by one shot. Somehow heels himself. Then somehow instantly reaches the speed he had been running in circles forever to build up before. It also wasn't clear to me he was phasing through an explosion. Just seemed like the movie trope of he needed to try harder to do the thing. I get they had set up reversing time earlier with the Motherbox in Superman's ship, but seeing it again didn't do a lot for me.
But I don't think I've ever actually read a Flash book.

100% agree. I subb'ed to HBO Max once they made their announcement of dropping all 2021 movies on Max (had no plans to before), and honestly, it's the service I've watched most this year. (Even with Wandavision coming out.)

Currently I'm rotating the last few seasons of BBT (which I had never finished), rewatching The OC, watching the DCEU movies, and random other shows which call out to me. (ie. We Are Who We Are, Allen v Farrow, etc.) Plus the occasional Friends episode.

And I've got Kong and Godzilla up on deck to get ready for GvK.

And I already know I'll be rewatching Succession soon enough. (I've only seen each episode once and I've been looking forward to a full rewatch.)

It's a pretty great library and I'm pretty sure I'll be re-upping once my 6 month promo period is up.

That reminds me I never finished the last 1-2 seasons of Silicon Valley. Should I?

Nice.

Yeah, in addition to HBO Max's vast library, once HBO finally returns to weekly scripted episodes of their new shows releasing every Sunday, starting again in April (with The Nevers and Mare of Easttown), in combination with the day-and-date WB movies each month, HBO Max is an absolute must have for me.

Definitely looking forward a Succession rewatch as well, in advance of season three (which should be hitting in August at the earliest, October at the latest).

Try harder to do the thing is classic superhero.

Every single movie the hero does something harder that they've never done before, or take it to another level.

Yes. I don't remember much about the second-to-last season, but the final season was great and they ended strong.

Agreed. Worth the finish.

Don't forget that the "another level" ends up being their baseline going forward

Thirded.

And kinda surprised that people want to unsub now with Kong, Mortal Kombat, Space Jam, In the Heights, Suicide Squad, etc. coming out in the next 3-6 months.

Also a show many have probably missed that would seem to appeal to superhero genre folks, Warrior is worth a watch (about Chinese gangs in San Francisco in the 1870s based on a concept from Bruce Lee's writings and the action is fantastic).

Sorry, I also wanted to add that he talks about how his metabolism is super fast, hence why he eats so much, which allows him to heal faster (his super speed everything, not the eating itself). It's part of his super speed. It's not just running fast, he does everything fast (cue ad lib sex joke).

HBO Max is amazing. They've got so much good stuff and have probably the best film library of any streaming service.

Plus, they have Batman the Animated Series. Worth every penny.

Not to go too off-topic but -- added The Third Day to my watchlist as well. I don't know much about it but the description alone intrigued me. Anyone seen it, and thoughts?

I probably wouldn't recommend it. I was super intrigued by the concept and especially the live episode thing, but overall I'd say it's pretty mediocre. I guarantee you don't even watch the live episode. The novelty wears off in about 5 minutes.

Watch it only if you love Jude Law and don't have anything better

Regarding JL, I found it humorous that the team that Victor Stone defeated on that TD run was Wisconsin. That would be something like some tiny school, like Rice, defeating some big name school, like, oh, say tu.

How the heck did I forget that? Wanted to make a Kansas vs tu jab but couldn't really consider KU to be on a GCU level.

Quote:

why does Bruce Wayne have to talk like he's hoarse? Every since Christian Bale took this approach, it seems this is synonymous with Bruce Wayne. I much preferred the calm collected and GQ approach of Val Kilmer or even Michael Keaton (even Clooney?). I understand why Bale was doing it, perhaps to disguise his voice when Batman, but Affleck is doing it with Ezra Millers Flash with no reason to hide his voice.
Are you talking about when BW is Batman? There is a quick scene in Batman v Superman where we see Alfred testing a voice modulator which would explain that hoarse voice when he's Batman. If he was hoarse at Bruce talking to Flash, I have no idea.

Which Warrior movie?

Google points me at the MMA movie or Omg Bak's Thai Warrior.

I've enjoyed Joe Morton's expanded role, although it sort of seems like his Terminator role. I feel like I see him in a movie about once every 10-15 years - Terminator 2, Blues Brothers 2000, now this.

Otherwise, I'm not sure I'm going to be able to finish this thing. But at least it led me to discover this.

Who knew adding two hours to a story could change so much!

The one Bruce linked, it's a series (2 seasons and hoping it finds enough life on HBOMax for a third).

Though the MMA movie is worth a watch too.

Halfway through. Pretty good so far. When does the wonder woman 1984 Snyder cut come out?

MMA Warrior with Joel Edgerton and Tom Hardy is exceptionally good.

I'm not as picky as most of y'all but I really liked it (I like the original too). I was a DC kid long before getting into Marvel with the MCU and the JLA was my favorite (pre-Cyborg) and I love watching it all come together (including Martian Manhunter).

FWIW, I also liked WW84 and seeing the invisible jet come into reality like in the comics. The "wishes" thing did remind me of Bruce Almighty, though.

Haven't read the whole thread... was that Granny Goodness at the end standing next to Darkseid and Desaad?

Owen Lars vs. Bane seems like a serious mismatch.

I watched it over the weekend and thought it was really good.

One thing I found hilarious: When going over the backstory of the mother boxes, it shows that the 3 peoples of Earth agreed to protect each box "in accordance with their customs". Atlanteans and Amazons proceed to store them in some kind of elaborate room. What did the humans do? Dig a hole and throw it in the ground LOL.

I would have been happier with less slow motion and group shots of the JL where the camera panned around them.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
My son and I watched the whole thing this past weekend and both loved it and didn't think it seemed like 4 hours. I did miss a few things from the original:

  • A few funny lines/scenes (Pet Semetary especially, Aquaman talking truth while lassoed, Flash jumping up after landing on WW)
  • I like the music when Flash is running and slowing things down in the original better
  • I still prefer Superman in his red and blue suit but I understand why he had the black suit from the comic storyline
  • I liked the twinge of John Williams music when he showed up in the original

All that said, we both agreed this version was MUCH better and we don't ever want to watch the original one again. Things we noticed that we really loved:

  • The increased violence was awesome lol
  • Beginning WW scene was more awesome.
  • More Flash (saving who was Iris I assume? and then the ending sequence which just was really cool)
  • More of Cyborg actually IN ACTION. I thought he was just an afterthought in the original but not here.
  • How Lois ended up reuniting with Superman vs. the original where Bruce had her brought as a secret weapon.
  • The part where Clark is walking through his ship and it was playing quotes and Man of Steel themes was great.
  • The last battle actually seemed like the whole battle was ALL of them working together as a Justice League vs. the original where it seemed like it was one or two of them at a time doing something.
  • I thought Batman's Batmobile sequence was so much cooler in this one and then him getting on that big gun on the cliff.
  • Flash's ending (worth mentioning again)
  • Having Darkseid in it made it better as well as foreshadowing.
  • Superman showing back up and Steppenwolf's fate was just way cooler and if they added the John Williams score to that it would have been the best lol.
  • Joker appearance

I really wondered how this cut would be and didn't have high hopes at all so it exceeded my expectations by a mile and I hope this prompts Hollywood to let Snyder finish what he wants to do now. I read an article about the supposed plots for his 5 film "trilogy" and it sounded amazing and now that I've seen this I'd really like to see that happen. I doubt it will but one can hope!

finally got through it. it worked so much better than the theatrical release, but was still basically just a typical snyder flick to me. that is, some cool moments, some cringe moments, but basically just fine.

i'm curious though...what was snyder's original plan? i know about his daughter (awful story), but did he really think WB was going to release a 4hr cut of this film in theaters?

if he'd gotten someone in to help with the writing and the story a bit, i think it actually could've been pretty good if broken up and released as two, 100-110 minute movies.
