Interesting thread. Found this Canadian guitar forum by accident. It's interesting.

Dude lists a guitar for sale. Someone offers him a trade for a USA Tele. Or not.

Staff, don't freak out for "other media" being linked here.

Plugged into the Tone King to do a little playing during my lunch break, and the sound basically cut out pretty bad. Sounded like a tube issue. Did some research and sounded like the power tubes, which I had replaced a year or two back with some TAD 6v6 tubes, at the time. I still had my older 6v6 tubes and swapped them back in. Amp is working again, but I definitely hear a difference in the way the amp performs with the stock 6v6 tubes vs the TAD tubes I was using.

There' a slight "fizziness" to the stock 6v6 tubes that I never heard with the TAD tubes. Did a little research and apparently TAD has a line of 6v6 tubes with a red-base, that are apparently very resilient with a high voltage tolerance. Just placed an order for a matched pair to see how they sound versus the stock ones.

I had an original 6V6 red plate on the TK. Man did that sound awful! Swapped it with a matched set of EHX 6V6'GTs. Found a guy in Houston on Reverb that shipped quick.

Curious to see how those TAD's are once you swap them out again.

I played one of these when I was looking for my first electric. It was really a nice guitar. Felt great and sounded really good.

It's orange. Of course they had to knock off $400 for the stupid deal of the day.

They must have sold all those horrid orange models.

This looks better.

Also, since I have been tinkering on fixing up old guitars, I put a post on FaceBook that if anyone had any old guitars sitting around collecting dust, I'd take them off their hands.

So when you bring home the guitar, you can say it was one of your Facebook friends who gave it to you to fix up.

alright musicians/guitar players, we are going to finish the rest of our basement soon, and included in the scope will be a gym/music room. Decent size room, and I'm looking for ideas.

I have a keyboard, 5 piece drum set, and almost a dozen guitars. 1 marshall class 5, and a fender cyber twin amp. Also a stage monitor that I may use for vocals. I want to set everything up so it looks nice and clean. Looking for guitars on the wall ideas. I have the basic hangars, but thinking about boxes. Or recessed boxes???
Backlit recessed boxes?? Where does this end?

Also kind of want to set up a small stereo with cd player/turntable since I have a lot of physical media still and want my boys to be able to grab a vinyl or cd and pop it on and hit play.

For the gym, we'll probably just get a dual cable type thing, something like this that can go in a corner

The space. In the brainstorming phase, nothing has been framed up yet. I am thinking I could move that closet to the right up against the storage wall (black line), and make it inside the room. Then the door into room could move up in line with the stairs.
Or we may lose the closet altogether if we can fit all the xmas stuff and currently stored stuff under the stairs.

Show me your setups.

This is my dream scenario….my wife recently requested I build an ADU/Music studio in the backyard to house all of my instruments (aka - get your **** out of the house, haha)…so I'm curious to hear the threads thoughts on this.

Man I wish we had a big finished basement.

That sounds like it's going to be cool. I'd be concerned that backlit boxes might literally box you in in terms of what you could do in the future. It would look cool as hell though.

For mine, I just did the wooden string swings, but stained a board and attached them to that. The board is mounted in the studs with two large screws to each stud.

Man, just make sure that thing is weather proofed to the nines. Is she talking actually building a structure or a pre-fabbed shed?

I don't know that I'd want mine in a spot where I had to go outside to use them, but one benefit could be sound proofing the hell out of it and being able to be as loud as you want.

well it's def a huge plus of a basement.
Our house was already a 4/3 between main floor and second level, and last year we put another bed/bath in the basement for phase I.

Remainder of basement is this area plus an even larger area for kitchenette, psuedo movie room, some more storage

I could probably use your input on a guitar i put some money into.

well in 2014, i had training in Germany for 4 months, came back and it fell from the wall mount and head stock broke in half.

It was my first "good" guitar that I played live shows with.

It's a Jackson DX-MG with Floyd rose system with upgraded EMG Active pick ups.

The body is fine but the neck an headstock is a goner.

What are your thoughts on replacement necks?
Quincey P. Morris

Just googled and saw it's a bolt-on. I'd imagine you could probably find one on reverb. I wonder if they route the neck the same as a strat. That would open up Warmoth. They do some Jackson style headstocks. Strictly speaking a luthier could probably fix it but I imagine it'd be more cost effective to just get a replacement.

For display boxes, I looked into these when I designed my theater but ultimately decided against having displays entirely: https://www.guitarstorage.com/shop/humidified-display-case/

Ultimately going to come down to your budget. Display cases are awesome, but $1,200 each is pretty substantial. Building in recessed cases would actually probably be less cost, unless you wanted them to be climate controlled. You could always recess them enough to make it easy to cover with sheetrock in the event you ever want to convert to something else. It wouldn't be hard to fabricate your own recessed case.

It would be an actual structure with a concrete foundation and HEAVILY insulated for sound....it's kindof the ideal scenario, just takes time & money!

I came across several cases that were just a few hundred. Anybody with experience at that price point?

I guess I would say your options are:

1. Taking it to a luthier who guarantees their work - problem solved (probably the most expensive route)
2. If all of the wood grain lines up and it fits together perfectly, try some glue (I see Titebond mentioned quite often on the luthier groups I joined, some swear by HHG (Hot Hid Glue) but it seems like a PITA to use, since it has to be at exactly 145 degrees for application among other things. You could also try regular wood glue, if ithe break lines up really good.
3. You could use epoxy instead of glue.
4. You could try a dowel/glue rig. The key here is that the holes have to line up perfectly. I don't think I'd try this option.
5. Buy a new neck and bolt it on. You'd have to do some research to find a neck that fit. Then you'd have to install it and make sure the angles are right.

If it were me, I'd probably call the luthier first and see how much it would be to fix it. If that's more than I would want to pay, I'd also ask him how much it would be if I tried to glue it myself and then took it in...as sometimes they'll charge more for fixing bad repairs (glue would be the easiest to clean up, though). Then I'd try to glue it just because it may work, and glue is cheap. Epoxy may work better, but it would be harder to clean up. With gluing or epoxy, you need to make sure it's clamped firmly in place and then know what the dry time is - and double that (IMO, just to be safe).

Also, medical disclaimer - I am not a luthier, just some guy who likes to build/fix stuff.

I bought one of these multi guitar hangers and it works fairly well. I don't 100% trust it since my heavy tele fell one time because I didn't pay attention when putting it on the hook. So now I just have all of the guitars on there that I don't play as much (and my kids' guitars that they never play). I have my nicer (and heavier) guitars hanging on the wall with stand alone hooks. My study has basically turned into my guitar room and then somehow my PS5 moved in here, so it's kind of my man cave. I'm jealous of a basement! My parents house in iowa has an unfinished basement and every time I'm there I want to start construction!

So I noticed my Wolfgang had a flaw. First, the Floyd would never reset after a dive bomb. Totally out of tune. I would have to jiggle it to get it back to normal. The Floyd knife edges were somehow getting hung up on the posts. It's the cheaper Floyd Rose special and I plan on upgrading it eventually anyway. Then I took the back panel off and noticed the claw plate screw holes did not match up to the holes in the body which resulted in one screw going in at a sharp angle. After some deliberation, I said eff it, this is my mod guitar. Unscrewed the claw completely removed the screws. Shoved toothpicks in the holes with wood glue, went to Harbor Freight and bought a 12" long 1/8" drill bit and drilled new holes using the claw plate as a template, then raided the wife's drawer for her chapstick and
put it all over the Floyd knife edges and posts and and put it all back together. Now it plays like it should and stays perfectly in tune after much dive bomb abuse. It's s a cheap $450 guitar but it screams!

Screw holes misaligned

On thing I had not considered is the amount of care that is required to not stab yourself with guitar strings.
