I have two Teles, though, and would always choose a tele over a Strat. However, everyone needs to own a Strat.

Or, needs to own (checks your last post) five Strats over a period of time.

Hey... I have a reason for everything! And actually, I forgot about my '62 Reissue I also owned.

  • Squire Strat: My first guitar as part of a Strat pack.
  • American Standard: Played it in 2011, after graduating, and thought it played so well. I later traded it in to buy a LP Classic, because I thought I wanted a LP instead (younger me didn't really know what he wanted).
  • American Professional: After about a year or so, realized I had to have a Strat in my arsenal. I missed being able to pick one up when I wanted to. Bought it used from Guitar Center and did some pickup swaps.
  • American Original 60's: Really wanted a nitro finished Strat with vintage specs, and went for this one, even though the model had a poly base coat.
  • '62 Dave's Guitar Shop reissue: Literally a couple months after purchasing the original 60's, I found this on Reverb and learned they were special thin nitro guitars made special for the store. Bought it and owned this one and the American Original.

After playing several custom shop Strats, and with my experience owning two custom shop Teles, I decided I would rather own one Custom Shop strat vs two others, so I bought my current Strat and sold my other two.

I will admit, I probably can't tell the difference between a poly and nitro coated guitar in a blind test, but I do believe I can feel the difference. Poly coats just feel like hard plastic to me. There's a softness with the nitro coast I love.

Thanks for the thorough response. Yes, the bridge pickup is great for some solo stuff (I could never play lead but it's fun to try), but mostly it sounds a bit harsh to my ears, and I find myself most often in the middle position. I do want that fatter sound sometimes, and also more crunch without cranking up the volume. Hope I'm correct in that thinking with the HSS.

I'm with you on buying used. Reverb has some decent deals on lightly used or demos. I'll post it here if I pull the trigger on one.

If you just want the HSS config vs the SSS, you can always buy a loaded pickguard and just replace your existing one.

Several pickup manufacturers also offer single coil sized humbuckers. Never used one myself, but it's an option.

I'm not the biggest fender strat fan, but their dark knight finish on the American pro ii looks *****in af

DallasTele, thanks, I read about that option. Worth considering, but sadly it won't scratch the new toy itch.

G.I.Bro, yeah that's the one that started this whole thing. Also loving the Mercury with rosewood fretboard. Two fine looking guitars!

Anyone using an amp stand in their home?

I was going down a guitar stand rabbit hole (probably a K&M) and that got me thinking about the amp as well. I've always had it on the wooden floor, but was curious about angling toward me. I generally play seated and sometimes stand if I'm really rocking out (ha!).

This stand (https://www.ampendage.com/) has my interest as it has more of a furniture feel versus a plain metal stand.

I can attest- the dark knight finish is sick. Got a Pro2 tele for Christmas and it looks like art.

It will change the acoustics completely, and may make your amp much more trebly. Combo amps are supposed to be directly on the floor, and will usually sound best when on a rug or carpet.

You can put it on a stand, but you will find yourself having to readjust all your eq settings, due to the changes.

My Red Monkey strap was just delivered. Packaging was nice if a little bougie. The leather smells great. About to put it on my V and see how it feels.

Appreciate the input. It's a Tone King ImpII combo. I may play around moving it over to a rug versus the hardwood floors and see how it sounds.

Oh yeah, Best amp in the world, imo.

I have mine directly on the floor with a rug in front. It will definitely get more trebly on a stand. But amp acoustics are affected everything in the environment.

I remember sounding just like Tom Scholz when I tried one in the 80's.

I owned one of those while I was at A&M. Took me a damn good while to track one down, and I finally found it at Guitar Resurrection in Austin. Think I paid like $250 for it back in ~1995-1996, something around that but too many years (and drinks) since then, haha. Anyway, yes, it sounded like Tom Scholz when you plugged a humbucker equipped guitar into it, best part was the headphone out! Had a for a while and sold it just because it was a one-trick-pony and I didn't use it enough. Was awesome when learning Boston songs though!

I have been fortunate to hang out with Joe Bonamassa a couple of times. He is a really good person.

During one visit, my son (who was in a band) and I were invited to meet him before a concert at the plaza in Santa Fe. He asked me if High Desert Guitar still in business and I confirmed that it was. At that time it was located walking distance from the plaza and he said "Well, let's go!"

My son and I got a personal concert as he pulled several guitars off the wall and gave each a workout.

He walked out with two guitars to add to his collection. We walked to the Lensic and he invited my son in for the sound check, showed him how everything was set up and answered all questions asked.

The guitar tone will most likely be the best you have have ever heard and see some of the fastest fret work in the world.

Enjoy!

This song is basically in three parts.

Pay special attention to his left hand beginning about the 7 and a half minute mark.

Stupid deal of the hour is happening on Musicians Friend.

It's often crap you don't need. But sometimes it's got a good deal!
